Wow! So very delicious vegan food! I just found out about this vegan place using the "Happy Cow" app with my cell phone when visiting Youngstown, and ate there August 6, 2019. They've been in business 11 years. I had the red lentil soup, maybe the best soup I've ever tasted. Also had a Vietnamese Pho noodle soup, tofu submarine sandwich, savory croissant, and sweet muffin. Everything super delicious. I was there shortly after they opened, about 10am, and there were a dozen people behind me a minute after I got in line. Obviously a very popular place. Most people seemed to take out the food. It's all in compostable take-out containers, but I elected the option to heat my selections with the microwave and eat at one of the nice wooden tables there. I wish I had known about this place since it opened, but I'll be going there whenever I'm in Youngstown. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! read more

Vegan and high quality ingredients are delicious and I love this place. Fresh and locally sourced fare-the bread comes from next door-The Bread Chef. You will not find a better salad or fresh springs rolls anywhere. Unique creations by Ely and her staff are outstanding. Specials every day. Simple to go in and order at counter. Choice to sit there or take out are provided. We need more restaurants like this and I highly recommend it. All vegan and you will not miss animal products. make sure you secure in an order online (when their site actually works) because if you call in and don't give payment info since you'd rather pay when picking up your order - they will give your meal out to the first buyer ! my toddler and I wanted to make sure we'd get a our order before they were out -since we were home with no vehicle since dad was at work we called in the order at 12:09pm and spoke with a girl who I informed my husband would be there at 5 for the order and he was paying. My husband drives 30 minutes from his work to get our order and she says "I never got that order we are out" even though I have phone record stating she did. no big deal for her but wasting our gas & time because you Wanted to get paid, run out of product and leave for the day. read more

This hidden treasure in Youngstown was a complete joy. The space is welcoming and so are the people who work there. Their menu is inviting and bountiful. They have the best treats (muffins, cookies, and scones). Today I had the "crab" cakes with a lemon dill sauce, purple sweet potato mash, collards, cabbage, and green beans. It was to die for. I also got maple Dijon potatoes. Everything made my taste buds jump for joy. Youngstown is lucky to have such a treasure in their midst! What I wouldn't give to have such a spot near me. Kudos to you! They also have plenty of other treats that I wanted to purchase but I have to pay bills. They had the earth balance kettle chips, Hippeas, and other great snacks. This place is an unusual concept for a stripmall in suburban Youngstown, but I hope it points to a brighter future with healthy, from-scratch, vegan food all over the country. It's a small cafe where you place your order at the counter and some of the food is brought to you, while some of it you just grab from a cooler case. They make simple foods, such as vegetable/tofu sandwiches and soups with options rotating daily. I was really impressed that they make their own bread, which is a rarity in the restaurant world. I just wish they offered a couple more sandwich and soup options; the day I went I had some kind of a tofu sandwich, but it would have been nice to have a homemade seitan option, or some kind of a TLT. I also got a tasty lentil soup but, bizarrely, the soup is cold and sits in a cooler case. If you want hot soup, you have to pop the paper container in the microwave next to the napkins and heat it up yourself. This do-it-yourself microwave action did not match with the otherwise elegant atmosphere of the cafe (wicker chairs, flowers, lots of sunshine). Lastly, I had a great muffin here as well. All in all, Ely's To Go is a great option for a quick, healthy and tasty lunch. read more

Visited this place today (Friday) for first time. Boy was I impressed!! Restaurant is adorable and staff is helpful and friendly. They have tables but were very busy so we got ours to go. I ordered "Steak" sandwich with peppers, onions and veganaise. It looked dry but it tasted great! The side was roasted potatoes with "bacon" and they were fantastic! I also purchased the BBQ chicken sandwich for later but haven't tried it yet! Their macaroni salad I had to buy also as it had all these great veggies like peas, carrots, and corn but haven't tried it yet either. Spending Christmas in Youngstown with a old old friend. She was super stressed about what I would eat while visiting. I kept reassuring her I'd be fine. I'm a vegetarian. No worries! But, the concept still made her nervous. Asking around at our spa day she heard about Ely's so we went for lunch. What a pleasant surprise! The food is light and fresh. The deli lighting is bright. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and super helpful when we asked questions. 'To Go' is right in that the food is listed on the menu above the register. The items are in a little cold case at the front. To make your dish warm you need to heat it yourself, which was totally fine. I had a soy chick papakrash, a black bean and pumpkin soup and a red quinoa salad with apricot and pomegranate. My friend had a potato leek soup with kale and the Thai spring rolls with soy chicken and dipping sauce. Everything was super good and she couldn't get over how 'meaty' the chicken was. I recently started dieting/counting calories. I really like the spring rolls here and was wondering how many calories were in them. I messaged Ely's on Instagram asking if they were able to tell me how many calories were in the spring rolls/sauce. I didn't know if they actually tracked that stuff which I why I asked if they WERE ABLE to tell me. The response I received back from them was incredibly rude and if that's how they treat their customers who are asking innocent questions then I don't want to support this business anymore. But don't fret - if you are coming from out of state like I was, there are tables and a microwave to heat up your meal. Fresh, inventive foods. All natural ingredients with none of the garbage we typically eat these days. Not a vegan or vegetarian and have never eaten in a place like this but I've quite enjoyed it. Been there twice now and have gotten quite a few different items to go each time. I'm in love with the roasted potatoes mix! I actually got there today and they didn't have any but they were already prepping for tomorrow and Ely had one of her cooks get me some. Great selection of sandwiches, soups, and cold salad items, and also things you can heat up if you like. Even infused teas and lemonades. The whole space is bright and inviting. The staff are also welcoming. It was a nice little cozy place to stop in for a quick meal or to grab a bunch of goodies to take home. Word of warning that you want to get there before it gets too late (they close at 4pm) or there won't be much left to choose from! I can't believe I didn't try this place out after driving by it for years. But I'm sure glad I did now. If you enjoy eating healthy or just enjoy eating delicious food, Ely's will impress you. I eat lunch here about 2-3 days a week and wish I could more however my job has me traveling the other days. I'm not vegan, but after learning about this culture I can understand why many people are. I can't express enough just how good I feel physically and guilt free mentally knowing that I'm doing something healthy and enjoying it at the same time. I reviewed about 2 1/2 years ago and feel the need to hop back on to say this is still my favorite place to eat. I'm here several times a week, even though I work in Pittsburgh and Cleveland 2-3 times a week now. I stock up when I go in to get myself through the week. I love all the amazing things that Ely makes, I love that I see the same smiling faces behind the counter each time and I LOVE that I can save on shipping costs because they stock Herbivorous Butcher, Tofutti & Chao items now. I'm such a happy girl! Plus, on occasion, I'll grab a bouquet from Fodor's to brighten my kitchen. If I can get her fried green tomato recipe my life might just be complete :) read more

My only criticism of Ely's is their hours. I would do almost anything to be able to eat dinner here or go on the weekend. Literally the BEST vegan cafe I've ever been to. Great to see Ely's making it. Not a vegan but a healthy eater and love stopping here, driving across town, for the spring rolls. That's about all I get so I should try some other things but can vouch for the lettuce-wrapped rolls filled with veggies and some tofu bits, which I love...don't like just veggie. They come with a nice dipping sauce with a little tartness. Two for $4.50 is good, I usually get two packages to take home since I don't get out there too often. Have gotten the muffins a couple times, wasn't too impressed with them..seemed a little dry Not big portions for the price but it is quality..great to have this place in the valley..like it better than Flaming Ice Cube which I also frquent read more
