Let me tell…read moreyou a bit about what you can expect: The Lodge is set off a couple hundred yards from Gold Lake Highway, nestled in the woods at the trailhead to Round Lake. (You'll see a lot of day-trippers parked at the trailhead -- just hang a right to drive into the Gold Lake Lodge campground.) The campground is made up of three tent cabins, about a dozen small cabins, and the main dining room. Those who stay in the tent cabins will get a slightly more rustic experience: you'll have a full bed and a dresser in the tent, but bathrooms and showers are in separate outhouse-like structures (perfectly clean, hot water, flushable toilets, etc.). Those in cabins will live in luxury with their own bathroom and shower. Both can accommodate 2-3 people depending on how much you like one another, but 2 is probably the right number for most. Prices are substantially cheaper for the tent cabins than the cabin-cabins, but both are reasonable. The price tag includes a full-blown breakfast, snacks for lunch, and a gut-busting dinner. Meals are served family style, and you'll quickly learn the ins and outs about which dishes to order, but everything will leave you full. Steak features prominently on the menu, but there are many other options too. My favorites? The pork loin with "Gold Lake sauce" (whatever that is!) and the Buffalo burger (also, not coincidentally, with "Gold Lake sauce"). For breakfast, you can't miss with the "Gold Lake scramble". (See the pattern?) For dessert, the "szarlotka" -- Polish apple pie -- is the runaway favorite. The lodge is run by the ever-helpful John, and ably staffed by a small gaggle of Polish students, who return year after year and add a little bit of cosmopolitanism to the woods. Perfect for all types, very close to amazing hikes and lakes... pretty hard not to give it 5 stars.

The love and care that has been put into their guests having a perfect experience is obvious the second you arrive. We stayed in the Feather Suite and it was spacious with a nice welcome book that tells you about the staff, the local restaurants, sites to see nearby and the number to text if you need anything at all. They do host a happy hour a couple doors down at Boomtown and depending on when you are staying, you may catch trivia night. Coffee and breakfast are pretty much right outside your door. Everywhere we went had #vegan options too. This location is incredible. You can fall asleep to the sound of the river or sit out on the patio to relax. Everything is just a few steps from your door. We walked right across the street to Jadaa's restaurant for lunch one of the days we were here. The town closes up fairly early do you don't need to worry about noise. You will get the best nights sleep here.

If you need anything they are immediately on it, anyway they can to help you have the best stay possible. Recently I lost my little brother, tragically and unexpected. We had planned a trip here for my fiance's birthday months in advance. I didn't want to cancel since we basically cancelled every other trip and event we had planned to be with family and funeral. I decided to keep this one as I knew I could rely on them to have a pleasant stay and maybe help ease my thoughts. When we arrived we had a handwritten card and fresh flowers from Lydia, the hotel concierge. They upgraded our king suite to the family suite since it was cooler on the lower level, I was able to rest during the day. We packed the lodge with about six other couples who came to celebrate his birthday and also be there for me during these rough weeks I was having. Everyone was taken care of and treated well as I knew they would be, they all were happy with their rooms and stay which made me very happy. The hotel is rustic, comfortable and very clean. The sound of the river flowing directly in front of it is so relaxing and rejuvenating, we sleep with our windows and balcony door open to listen all night long. Beds are so comfortable that I even considered texting hotel to ask where they purchased from. I may still. Anyway, five stars for this wonderful place. I hope they are here for years to come.

What an incredible stay! We booked last minute to get out of town from the valley and many places…read morein the area were already booked for the weekend. Lucky for us we hit the jack pot and definitely realized after driving by all the other resorts, cabins, and inns that we ended up in the best one. Of all the other places you could tell these cabins had the best views and though close to each other still felt secluded. You have a full view of the meadow and mountains, not just the highway or another property across the road; we even saw a bunch of deer including a big buck! The whole property is also well past a golf corse so you really are tucked away. They are very dog friendly with lots of poop bags and trash cans as well a bag of treats at check in, they even will walk your dog if asked! They have free breakfast and unlike a many places it's not buffet style, they seat you and serve it up just like a typical restaurant breakfast but I wouldn't have minded a bit more variety. We can't wait to come back and stay in another cabin next time, maybe deeper in fall or even after a bit of snow; you can tell this property is breath taking any time of year.

While the service was top notch and the pizza sauce and toppings were fantastic, the dough itself was under seasoned, so we decided not to return. Fast forward to tonight.. Little kitchen, small dining area and back door with a patio table surrounded by beautiful redwoods! The pictures online do this cute little place no favors!!!! Would definitely stay here again (all while I haven't actually slept here yet ) we also walked down to Martha's Kitchen and not only was the food DELICIOUS the waitress was also so sweet and attentive! We might have just found the sweetest little place to land while we're here for a wedding. ****edit to add after sleeping there 2 nights, the main road is semi close so obviously you'll hear some car sounds. Mostly in the early morning. They do provide ear plugs I didn't use them and after the first night it didn't really bother me much. As do be expected with that main road there.
