We've been coming to Camp Layman annually for over a decade. Our visit each July is always much anticipated and appreciated. Shelly and Dan are like family. Our group typically includes upwards of fifteen people spread throughout seven or eight cabins. With that size group, we really love the variety of activities available on site and in the immediate area. There is, literally, something for everyone. But, the best aspect is being able to slow down and reconnect with each other while in a beautifully relaxed setting. read more

For the age and size of these cabins, this place is amazingly well kept and comfortable. The owners are really great and conscientious people, and go way out of their way to make sure you settle in are happy with accommodations. The cabin we had was pretty tiny, but had a workable kitchen with full size fridge, stove, coffeemaker, water heater and a table for two. Also they managed to squeeze in a usable shower to the bathroom. The water pressure and temperatures were excellent. Beds comfortable. The grounds are flat and well covered with trees, pull in spaces next to cabins. There is a cool railroad passing and a small bridge over the river nearby. This place gets many return visitors year after year, and I can see why. I wasn't that impressed with the Graeagle area itself as a destination, but there are parts of the area that are really beautiful, and the WP railroad museum is a bit run down but ambitious, lots of interesting pieces there. I might return for a few days to hang out with friends, though the big draw of Graeagle kinda stumps me. Definitely great area to see and breathe some trees and have a change of scenery. read more

This place is absolutely amazing. A real treasure to our family. We had the pleasure of spending 4 amazing days here with our kids. We were greeted by the nicest owners and their amazing dog. We stayed in the bear cabin and had everything we needed. They really thought of every single item you might need. Just bring food and bring a lot of it because you won't want to leave. Our family has been going to Camp Layman since 1948 (if my mother-in-law tells her story about coming up to CL with her in-law's) but in recent years it's been the place for our family to reconnect. Three generations in our family rent cabins, fish, play, hike, cook, and relax together for 5 days. The memories we make are priceless. There is something for everyone to do, the cabins have nice amenities, the community BBQ and camp fire are a great way to end a fun filled day in the mountains. The separate cabins provide us all a little space & privacy, yet the community based amenities allow us all to be together when we want. The proprietors of this establishment are great people, fun to chat with and every year I look forward to seeing them again. Shelley is an amazing lady and will help you in way she can. We chose Camp Layman as our 1st Anniversary. It was so unbelievably amazing, that we booked it for next year! Absolute peaceful environment! Wildlife, bonfires, BBQ's, Ping-Pong, Basketball, Horseshoe pit, trains go by daily, river to soak in, hammock etc. There is so much to do outside of the camp, museums, mines, old towns. This campground offers everything you need for a fun and relaxing experience. Dan and Shelley are perfect hosts making sure your stay is comfortable. Their dog Winnie greets all the guests and is friendly to all dogs. Yes, your dog is invited to camp with you. The cabins are a blast from the past and are uniquly decorated and comfortable. Horseshoes, fishing, hiking, campfires, swimming hole, cornhole or reading on the front deck of your cabin. The town of Graeagle is about 10 minutes away if you want to play tennis or Pickleball or go shopping. Yep, Id definitely stay here again. read more

We absolutely love coming to Camp Layman. My husband found this place 27 years ago and we began taking our growing family there each summer for the next 15 years. We took a 10-year break and then one of our daughters rediscovered Camp Layman two years ago, under new ownership. It has been a wonderful reunion with this spot along the Feather River. Shelley and Dan, along with Eric and Pat, have done a fantastic job of bringing life (and safety) back to Camp Layman. They have remodeled most of the kitchens and bathrooms of the cabins and upgraded much of the infrastructure. The cabins are rustic and charming with full kitchens, clean bedding, bathrooms with showers, heaters when necessary and a front porch. Each cabin has a slightly different floor plan and capacity. One of the nice things for us is the ability to bring our dog with us on vacation. He has as much fun as we do! Last weekend, our daughter got married at Camp Layman, and we rented all 13 cabins for the weekend. It was a beautiful wedding and the perfect spot for our family and friends to gather. We couldn't be happier with the way everything turned out. Shelley and Dan made sure we had everything we needed for the big day. Pangaea, a restaurant in Quincy, catered the event and they were awesome as well. The large, outdoor dining area was just the right size for our party (48 people). We brought our own decorations and transformed it into a beautiful reception area. I'll share pictures of everything when we get them. This cluster of 13 cabins is one of my favorite spots to go to when I want to get away. It makes for a perfect family vacation, too. There's a great swimming hole to play in that's a short walk away. Horseshoes, volleyball, a play structure and rafting are all right there. At night, there is usually a big campfire going on and it's s'more heaven! You can hike and fish if you like, or just kick back in your cabin. I think there's something for everyone, young and old alike. Thanks to the new owners for making this a beautiful and peaceful place to visit! It's hard to leave Camp Layman, but we look forward to coming back each year. read more

Awesome cabins, awesome location, awesome place to stay!!! Loved it! We stayed in Oak Leaf, a two-person cabin, with our dogs, and it was a perfect size. The kitchenette was wonderful to have, albeit the stove didn't differentiate much between low and high. The cabins were wonderfully spaced - we never heard anyone else in their cabins. Also, the cabins are wonderfully located in the forest - my dogs and I went for walks every morning in a new direction every day. There is a swimming hole in a creek with an absolutely picturesque mountain stream view that we enjoyed splashing around in, too. The camp has a group BBQ with "dining" tables, a big fire pit with seating, and a playground for kids. Customer service is also wonderful - our pilot light went out on the stove and it smelled of natural gas around 10pm Saturday night, and the camp host was there in less than 10 minutes. And, the price was right - $90/night. Some of the cheapest lodging in the area. If we're ever in the area, we will DEFINITELY be back! read more

Fun place to stay...huge outdoor dining area for big families. Great place to go to just get away. We stayed in the trout cabin..could def use a little TLC. Back screen door needed the screen to be replaced... Screens for windows would be a plus..it was extremely hot and we couldn't open windows or we would have been eaten alive by mosquito's. A little disappointed in the staff.. they were upset because all the kids would come into the office to buy candy..well if you don't want kids coming in and out of the office then don't sell candy!! Overall we had a fun time at the camp. read more

my dog & I love staying at Camp Layman: gracious hosts! clean, cozy, rustic cabins in forest of evergreens & oaks alongside the Feather river. we find this is the perfect place for rest and slowing down (me) for exploring on the trails (my dog). we come in the Fall, when the air is chilling and the leaves turning colors. it's awesome! read more

Well, it looks like it's been a couple of years since someone last reviewed Camp Layman. My family has been back to CL probably 5 or 6 times in 2 years. It has become my retreat of choice for peace and beauty. I can kick around and relax, hike, swim, play with my dogs, BBQ, meet new people or sit inside one of the many cabins we've rented and read a book while it's snowing outside. Although I was not previously associated with the camp or the owners, Shelley, Dan, Pat and Eric have definitely become family. They take care of our every need, helped me find my lost dog, helped me take by dog to the vet (yeah, same dog....lab), celebrated birthdays and gone tubing with us and still make time for all the other 'campers'. The cabin renovations have been amazing and have lost none of the rustic ambiance but adding just the right amount of convenience. How they manage it all and maintain this little piece of paradise is beyond me. Go and find out for yourself. Find the 2 big boulders in the river, grab a beer and sit a spell contemplating how good life is. read more

Horseshoes,volleybal,pingpong,shuffleboard,fishing,swimming,rafting, campfires,star gazing,boat races and more.Anyone would be crazy not to want to spend sometime here.
