This is a well-maintained overnight campground in a beautiful location near the Haskins Bay area of Bucks Lake. From their website: Nestled among scented pine trees in a deep cove at the south end of Bucks Lake, Haskins Valley Campground is a popular vacation spot in California's Plumas County. A portion of the 65 campsites can now be reserved through the handy online system. Haskins Valley Campground has a trailer/camper sanitary station, double vault toilets and a nearby boat ramp. RVs up to 40 feet in length can be accommodated on a few of the no-hookup sites, which feature tables, food lockers, fire rings with grill and piped water. The campground is part of Pacific Gas and Electric Co.'s recreation area which centers around enticing Bucks Lake. The lake is home to five kinds of sport fish, and is a terrific place to swim, boat and water ski. It is remote, but there is a general store just across the street should you need anything. No flushing toilets, but everything seemed clean and orderly. For 4th of July weekend it was still relatively quiet, the weather was fantastic and the swimming really is perfect! Only giving 2 stars because the camp host was very kind when we arrived (if we could give 5 stars just to the lady we spoke with we would). Unfortunately, during a busy holiday weekend like Father's Day, quiet hours were not enforced at all. There were barking dogs, loud music, yelling, and even gunshots well past midnight. To make matters worse, a nearby RV/trailer ran its generator all night right next to our tent, making it nearly impossible to sleep, and no one stepped in to address any of it. Also want to note that during the busy Saturday morning, all the restroom was completely out of toilet paper. We've always loved Bucks Lake, which is why this experience was so disappointing. The rowdy atmosphere and lack of enforcement left a bad taste in our mouths and made for a frustrating and sleepless camping trip. read more

This is a gem of a campground in Plumas County at Bucks Lake. It is a PG&E campground and sites can be reserved at www.recreation.pge.com. There are a handful of sites that are also first come first served near the campground host site. Some of the sites have really nice old rock built stoves that you can build a fire in fry up a fish or whatever you like. I also like the fact there is a little general store within walking distance. The campground has a boat launch, and rv dump station. It is very beautiful with tall pine trees and is very pristine. The campground is immaculately kept clean by the hosts. No cell phone coverage there but there is a public pay phone at the general store. read more

This campground is well maintained and the host was extremely friendly and helpful. My family and I reserved four sites total. The sites are average sized and flat. The parking allows two cars each site and is paved. There is a fire pit and a bear box as well. The bathrooms are vaulted. I didn't find them to be the best smelling at times, but it wasn't too bad.There is also a small store within walking distance. It was extremely helpful when we ran out of snacks and other necessities that we forgot. The lake itself is pretty amazing. We swam for a good two hours and had we not been starving, we would've swam longer. The only reason for the 3 star rating is because of the amount of bees present. I cannot explain how much bees there were. It was such a huge annoyance. We asked the host and she recommended cutting a bottle in half, inverting the top portion towards the bottom piece and placing some meat inside the bottles to draw in the bees. This was no help at all. Although this did draw in a lot of bees into the bottles, there were still a gazillion other ones flying around us. Prepping food and eating food was no fun. We were constantly shooing the bees away and running around like chickens with our heads cut off to avoid the bees. Many of us ended up eating inside our tents or cars. I and a few other family members got stung so that was extremely unpleasant. Aside from the large amount of bees camping with us, this place is a great place to camp. read more

After my boyfriend and I drove over 2 hours to camp at Bucks Lake, the campsite we originally wanted and have stayed multiple times was completely full. Most of these sites don't take reservations but we haven't had a problem before. We went to 3 other sites in the area and were told that only Haskins had availability. It was already 9 o'clock. We were so relieved, so we headed there. Now it was about 9:30 at night and we were exhausted and hungry. We pulled up and nobody was at the host station so we drove around the site looking for available spots. We found multiple spots that weren't reserved until at least 2 or 3 days later. We figured that would be fine since we just wanted to stay the night and leave first thing in the morning. We chose one and I walked around trying to find a host to pay and make sure it was fine to stay the night. Again, it was 6/23 and the site we found said "reserved 6/27". I finally found a host riding around on a golf cart and told him we were desperate and we found a site that wasn't taken until the 27th. All he said was "If it's reserved, you can't stay." I said well it isn't reserved for a few days. He still said we couldn't stay. I asked if any of the other empty sites were available just for the night so we didn't have to drive a couple more hours to find somewhere and he said no. Even though this was already about 10 o'clock and there were multiple empty sites. He was extremely rude to me. We just needed somewhere to sleep for 7 hours but he told us to leave. We will NOT be going back to this spot ever. read more

I was seriously disappointed after my experience at this campsite. We arrived early, 645am so we could fish. A note was left on the truck to check in and pay fees. Got back to the truck at 2pm our site was reserved already. Camp host charged me for 3 days extra vehicle and 1 day camping because we arrived prior to 11am. So already I get charged an extra vehicle fee. Next we launched our boat again at 5pm. Upon returning to the launch we discover another note. The note said you can't park your truck at the launch ramp it's for day use only. We payed $25 to camp and use the boat ramp yet we can't park there even know there are no signs posted. If we didn't adhere we would be removed from the campsite. So we are a bit annoyed and can't believe the power trip of the camp manager here and the over charging of fees. The icing on the cake was the camp host showing up at our camp at 945pm to continue his rant about us parking at the boat ramp. Long story short several other resorts to stay at. Boat ramp is narrow and has 0 lighting or dock. Campsite cannot fit a truck and boat trailer. Your expected to launch your boat and return back to your campsite. All this happens while there was 0 occupancy. Worst campsite ever egos and overcharging are complimentary enjoy. Look else where for a well maintained campsite. read more

Our family went for a weekend camping trip to this lovely campground and were very pleased with the upkeep of the camp ground. The sites were well maintained and bathrooms were spotless all day. I hate vault toilets, they cause me anxiety, but I can say with confidence that these bathrooms were the best I've ever used, I didn't feel like some living creature was going to come up out of them and eat me. (Yes I know it's irrational but still.) The best part was that the day use on the other side of the lake had flushing toilets, showers, and a great beach to lounge and swim at with the family. Our father in law brought the fishing boat and enjoyed the water. My husband and I were using the paddle boat and it took on a ton of water due to boat waves. We actually had to bail out and swim the boat back to shore. So beware if you don't have a motorized boat. Lake was warm, everything was clean! There's a cute little store across from the campground that's great for ice cream, drinks, ice, wood, etc. There is even an actual pay phone since cell phones don't work at all. (If you know how to use them.) We can't wait to go back. I was so impressed with this gem of a lake and campground only an hour from home! read more

This is a beautiful campground with lots of shade provided by pines and fir trees at 5,200 feet. It is well maintained by the camp hosts. We arrived two days before Labor Day, and it was our first stop on a longer trip north. The one thing that does not show up on any campground maps is that PG&E campgrounds have a unique characteristic. Each campsite is bounded (outlined) by 1.5 foot wood posts that are spaced about every 6 feet. Each campsite and every driveway into the campsites has these spaced posts. They created a problem for us, since we had a 27-foot trailer, and our tow vehicle is a 3/4 ton truck. When hooked up, we are just under 50 feet long. This campground was laid out at a time when trailers and vehicles were much smaller and shorter. Many tall trees along the campground roads have been left in place and, in addition to the boundary posts, this creates very narrow access roads. Maneuvering into campsites with long trailers or RV's is very tricky. We arrived at 9:30 PM, due to the poorly-signed closure of Highway 119 which caused us to backtrack to Oroville and take Highway 70 to Quincy. Arriving after dark and discovering how narrow the campground roads were added up to trouble. We bent one of the dual axles on our trailer after rolling over one of the boundary posts. That mishap brought our entire vacation to an end. The owner of a tire store in Quincy responded within two hours of our call, and he was very helpful. The camp hosts were wonderful to let us use the office phone to call for help and they allowed us to use an overflow campsite for additional days, paying day by day. The day after Labor Day, AAA finally had the time to tow the trailer to the tire store to await the repair. We learned that many vehicle axles are damaged on the posts in the campground. If you have a longer vehicle or are towing a longer trailer, beware! read more

We love Haskins Valley Campground and go every year! Yes, there are rules, but, the signage is prominent and the clearly stated. The camp Hosts are wonderful and very helpful. They remember us every year. The site is located off of an inlet that is protected from wind and the boats that come by are at a minimum speed. The vault toilets are kept clean and the smell is hardly noticeable. If I have to use a vault toilet then these are acceptable. There is a shower across the lake at a day use campground. I have used the shower and the only reminder is to bring plenty of quarters. There are many day drives in the area. Multiple areas to hike including nearby access to the Pacific Crest Trail. There is a boat/jet ski/paddle board rental area close by. There is plenty of wildlife, and yes, there are bears! The campground supplies a bear locker in the sites that i have been at. Use It! Our first stay when we were new to camping included a bear in the campground that ate our cooler! There is a general store across the street for necessities or a quick 20ish mile jaunt to Quincy for a shopping trip to Safeway. Quincy also has a very small movie theater and local shops if you need a day out of the sun. There is no cell phone access but the general store across the street has a pay phone. Again, bring quarters. All in all, Haskins has the right blend of "away from it all" with "close enough" to satisfy both! Highly recommended. read more

We love this campground and have gone yearly for the last 4 years. Very well maintained, beautiful setting with a gorgeous lake. There's a great camp store and a few bars/restaurants on the lake if you want to skip cooking one night. Its remote but absolutely worth it. read more

The managers Hank and Donna were very attentive to all the guests in our EV free camping trip . They welcomed us from the first day and continued util our departure. Our first night was loud after 10:30 pm. H and D took care of it and all was quiet. I would rate them 5 stars, but that might stifle there hospitality.
