I know some people worry most about the food or the flowers but for us photo was Queen. My husband is a cinematographer, and I'm a makeup artist who works in print and video industry. So as you might imagine we are a little picky about images. Right away we knew what we did and didn't want. We also realized it was going to be hard to find someone who could shoot our wedding the way we envisioned. The two styles of wedding photography we kept running into was photojournalist style and cheesy contrived poses. Besides hating both styles it didn't really go with the look of our wedding, 1940's film noir. We wanted glamour, sophistication and a little bit of camp. We needed someone who actually knew who to take photos. Luckily I had worked with Kristyna Archer a number of times on photo shoots. I knew how amazingly talented a photographer she was and she was easy going and fun to work with. We were thrilled when we found out besides shooting for magazines she also shoot weddings. She understood what we were after and didn't try and talk us into doing some check list of cookie-cutter-photos. It was so important to us to have Kristyna shoot our wedding that we brought her all the way to Montreal with us. She was the hardest working person the day of our wedding. Running around making sure we got all our crazy photos. Our wedding photos are beautiful and look more like something you would find in a magazine then an average wedding. If you want photos that are as unique as you, then you need to hire Kristyna. Because of her background in fashion and adverting photography you can rest assured she knows how to compose and light. She's not a hobbyists playing at photography. She is a talented passionate professional who will give you the best damn wedding photos ever!

It was important to me to get flowers that didn't have a huge environmental impact, so finding Cornelia McNamara and her Chicago flower farm was a dream come true! I loved that all the flowers were grown locally and didn't have the huge environmental footprint of flowers that are flown in from warmer climates. Because this is a local business, the process for ordering was less formulaic than it is at other florists. Instead of filling out an online form and picking from a few arrangement options, I emailed and talked with Cornelia directly, shared my inspiration pictures, and trusted her team of professionals to do an amazing job (which they absolutely did!). Thoughtful details like having the boutonnieres use magnetic fasteners and having the corsages on beautiful diamantine bracelets that were easy to take on and off made everything seamless. Even when I made a last minute addition of ten centerpieces two weeks before the wedding, the team was super accommodating and everything turned out beautifully! While these flowers were not the cheapest option available, working with someone who cares deeply about her craft while simultaneously caring for her employees and the environment made picking this vendor a no brainer. I had a very specific vision in terms of colors and theme, but I left flower selection, shape, etc. all completely up to Jori and she designed and executed it all flawlessly. My husband just kept repeating how incredible the flowers looked as if he was in shock, but after interviewing over 15 other florists before choosing Jori, I was not one bit surprised at how perfect the florals were. Our venue is a lot of dark gray and glass, and can feel a little corporate and cold if the design doesn't intentionally warm it up. I had asked for monochrome blush-mauve-berry, but the actual shades Jori chose made the room feel bright and welcoming and cozy all at the same time. Everything Jori planned worked for both our ceremony during daylight and during the reception when it got dark, which I didn't realize would be so important when I was thinking about wedding planning. We also asked for a hanging installation that I imagine was difficult to create, and it was the perfect scale and design for the space. I can't end my review without also noting how lovely Jori was to work with. She was incredibly responsive throughout the planning process and is just an absolute joy and treasure of a person. Faced with last minute scrambling to get a ceremony venue, reception venue, officiant, invitations, and everything else I think it goes without saying that I was in full panic mode. This full 180 of our wedding plans included a need for a new floral designer which brings me to this review! Firstly, Ryan Turner (the owner / designer) is SO nice and extremely helpful. I went into the process with next to no idea of what I wanted except that I wanted white and pink flowers with next to no greenery. We met him at his office which is a bit hard to find but well worth the trip. It's in an unassuming building on the west side but as soon as you enter his studio you are overwhelmed with the gorgeous floral displays and enormous coy fish pond. Very zen and appreciated by this stressed out bride-to-be! After our first consultation, we were able to nail down the flowers, bouquet sizes, boutonnieres, and center pieces. Since we were trying to operate on a budget I wanted to use our bouquets as the center pieces. I caught a lot of grief from other florists on this who wanted to make more money on extra arrangements, but Ryan didn't bat an eye and instead showed us really pretty vase options for our bouquets. A week before my wedding, one of my bridesmaids who originally wasn't going to be able to make it, changed plans and was able to come. I was shocked to find out that Ryan was more than willing to add another bridesmaid bouquet to our order last minute. He couldn't have been easier or better to work with! The big day came and the flowers were delivered on time and they looked beautiful! Naturally, since we had an outdoor wedding with no cover, it poured with rain literally all day long. But no matter, the flowers stayed beautiful! In fact, we got married in the morning and they lasted all the way through the night on our reception table. I don't even want to think about how things would have gone without her. From our first phone consultation I knew she would be perfect. She was so helpful and detailed without being overbearing like so many other seemed to be. As soon as we chose her, Courtney sent us this spreadsheet that organizes EVERYTHING. Every little detail gets accounted for in this thing, including a complete timeline, info for all the vendors, and everyone else involved. She brought up all these different details and moving parts that I never would have thought about and planned for. When the wedding got closer (like 1.5 months away) we met up and she also became my therapist! The wedding stress was REAL. We stayed in close contact from then until the wedding week, with her helping me coordinate all the little details and giving me advice on how to make everything as easy as possible. She also became the point of contact for all my vendors so I did not have to worry about anything or talk to anyone that final week. When it came to the day before, Courtney came to our rehearsal and made sure everything was organized and good to go, meeting all the parents, grandparents, wedding party, etc and letting everyone know that she was the point of contact for everything. On the wedding day she was a SAINT. She came to our hotel where all the gals got ready, steamed our dresses, coordinated delivery of flowers, kept us on schedule, etc. She also was going to to our reception venue to help set everything up! I gave her instructions of how everything should be set up (a lot of it I brought in myself so the venue doesn't set it up) and it looked so amazing beyond everything I had pictured. Somehow between the hours of her helping us get ready, getting us to the church, and the ceremony she managed to put together dozens of floral arrangements, set up signs, and light hundreds of candles. She helped manage everything throughout the night, making sure I was able to eat (she had saved a whole tray of appetizers for the wedding party since we came later than everyone else from photos), she adjusted our timeline when I needed to make updates, she set up all of our favors (100 of them!) while everyone was eating, and she was basically just a flawless angel there to save the day. I did not have one hiccup or issue with the wedding (that I know of!) because Courtney handled and took care of any issue. She was the best decision ever and I can't thank her enough. My day was absolutely perfect and I know it would not have been if it weren't for her. Thank you so much!!!!!!!

It was important to us to have an officiant who performed all types of ceremonies, especially same sex, as we feel strongly about this topic. I called Michele Rose and we set up a time to meet at a local Panera. We all sat down and chatted for a bit and then we discussed what we were looking for in an officiant. She asked us some questions about our background and showed us a portfolio of weddings she had performed. She also went over her ceremony creation process and we were very impressed. She asked us how she might best get to know us and I suggested she may want to talk with our parents. This idea was very well received and ended up adding a very special touch to our ceremony. Needless to say, we decided to move forward and provided a deposit by check and signed the contract with her prior to leaving. As our wedding drew closer we received an extensive questionnaire from her along with instructions to fill out as much or as little as we were comfortable with. It was a bit like homework, but it was completely worth it. After we completed our questionnaires, our parents were contacted and then we received the first draft of our ceremony. After a few rounds of edits we had everything ready for the big day. In the days leading up to the wedding I sent our DJ and day of coordinator a copy of the ceremony and on our special day things went perfectly. Our friends and family raved about how personalized and "us" the ceremony was. Many asked if Michele Rose knew us outside of being our officiant (she did not). A few of our guests mentioned it was the only ceremony where they both laughed and cried. Overall, the day was perfect, beyond our expectations and we couldn't be more grateful for the personalized, wonderful and memorable ceremony provided by Michele Rose.
