I love Elmwood Laundry. Always clean, never too crowded and plenty of dryers and machines! Their prices are moderate ($2 - $6.50 to wash; .25/6 minutes to dry) and the manager is easy to reach in case of a problem! Also gotta love the free wifi! My only complaint would be the parking lot :( read more

EXPENSIVE. Paid $3.25 to wash and $1.50 to dry (40 min)---that's a total of $4.75 for one measly load of laundry. What a rip-off!!! I'd give it 5 stars for safe location and because it is well-lit and clean and spacious with lots of machines. With these prices though, I'm never coming back. read more

Great location. There is a hand wash station and it's clean! It was nice to find they have big machines to avoid doing multiple loads

Aggressive staff - do NOT recommend! Not COVID compliant. I felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe due to staff behavior. The staff member approached me closely with no mask, accused me of taking quarters without doing laundry, which I calmly explained was not the case at all. He followed me out to my car as I was getting my laundry to bring in and began yelling that I was taking quarters. I felt so unsafe that I knew I needed to leave. He blocked my car in and continued yelling. Just simply a horrible experience. Please practice more kindness. read more

It's clean, not really busy, and they have places where you can sit and study while you're doing your laundry! Unfortunately, the wifi wasn't working for me, but I was pleased overall with my first experience at a laundromat. The smaller washing machines were $2.00 for ~30 minutes, and I believe the dryers go by however much you pay. For some reason, I didn't know how to start my dryer and so I just kept putting in quarters thinking that there was a minimum amount to start it, and I ended up paying 1 hour's worth more of drying than I needed. At least now I know to press both the temperature and the start button to get my dryer going! Downside: There's never any parking, so street park around the neighborhood! read more

No complaints at all- someone is always here cleaning and to help if you are that consumer who asks ridiculously dumb questions like myself. I like coming in the evenings because I bring a shit ton of laundry and I need to park close to get this shit in. But it's always nicely kept and they have video games and places to sit and do homework. I actually enjoy coming here because there is a 7-11 next door if I need anything and a delicious ice cream joint just a few steps away. Come here to clean your chonies. You will be glad. read more

I go here on weekdays, so they don't get very busy. There is usually plenty of parking, and there are always enough washers and dryers. I don't like that on two occasions, I got foreign change back from the change machine. This is pretty sleazy IMHO. The last time I was there, they had 4 machines that were not working. I have been going there once a week for months, and I never see anyone in there maintaining the machines. One dryer was constantly popping open on me while my clothes were drying, and I had to keep going over to close it. That dryer was on the right side, so now I just use dryers on the left so I don't accidently use that one. read more

Great location near a bunch of boutique shops, eateries, cafes, and a bakery across the street. Or you could go two doors down for a 7-11 if you prefer that kind of thing. The machines cost more than the ones in my apartment complex, but there are certainly more options, namely the high capacity washers for big items like comforters. That, and they have entertaining warnings, like "make sure there are no children inside before running dryer." And even if it is a feature common to most laundromats, sitting there reading and waiting for your clothes to finish is quite the peaceful experience. You get free wireless too! Unsecured though, just a heads up. read more

Clean, change machines that take $10 bills, LOTS of machines, tables to sit at, FREE WIFI and parking spots out front. Even old video game machines. All I wish is that there were newer machines, or at a minimum, they outfitted these places to take credit cards. read more

I don't live in the neighborhood, but I often go to Elmwood Laundry because it is cleaner than many laundromats and I usually can park in the lot during weekdays. It's also nice to walk around the Elmwood neighborhood while you wait. As others have mentioned, the timers on the newer washing machines are not accurate. Signs say there's free WiFi, but I haven't been able to find or connect to the account, so I'm guessing that's just false advertising. Also, Elmwood would really benefit from an attendant. The machines have eaten my quarters on numerous occasions and there are often homeless people in the space sleeping on the floor or even yelling at the patrons. read more

The good: Open long hours, usually lots of available machines, convenient location, a safe and friendly vibe. The not so good: A bit expensive (especially the best and largest indutrial machines), some machines will not be working and yet they'll eat your first quarters (and it's just not worth complaining about it), not quite as clean as it should be, very limited parking. read more

Don't come if you are in a hurry the timers on the machines are all messed up usually takes an additional 20min from how long it should take

I have been going here for years because it's the closest laundromat to me, but it keeps steadily getting worse. Many of the machines have been broken for at least a year and have not been fixed, while the prices for your loads have continued to increase. So if you come on a busy day, it will definitely be hard finding a machine to use, and when you do it will definitely be expensive. At least the place is pretty clean, but that probably has more to do with the location then management/staff. I will be looking for a new laundromat to clean my clothes at. read more

I drove out of my way to come to this laundromat because of the free wifi. Unfortunately the washing machine ate my quarters and became jammed so that I couldn't put in any more quarters nor could I operate the machine. I called the number for this laundromat and got a guy who's working off site and couldn't come and give me my quarters until the afternoon. I know it's only $.50 but when I'm running 3 loads and giving them a lot of business, I think they should be a little more attentive than "I can bring you your quarters and meet you there sometime this afternoon" read more

This is an update to my last review which put the laundromat at one star. A lot has changed in the last month (Sept 2015). There are a ton of new washers now. First, there are 18 new front loaders. They appear to take about 1 1/2 loads, but it will depend on the size of your laundry basket. There are controls for water temperature, hot, warm and cold. Soiling - light, medium, and heavy. And Fabrics - regular, perm press and delicate. Price ranges from $3 to $3.50. $3 for light soiling and warm or cold water. Up to $3.50 for heavy soiling and hot water. The dispenser handles the usual front loading products - detergent, softener, bleach. Second, the old broken double loaders have all been replaced. Price ranges from $4 to $4.50 with the same controls as for the smaller front loaders. The symbol shows three laundry baskets, but i could only put in two plus. But my baskets may be large and clothes were over the top of the basket rim. Third, the triple washers have been replaced. Can't recall the prices. I think that they range from $5 to $5.50, but i will check and update when i do my laundry again. I don't think that the really big Megawashers have been replaced. There are still about 20 top loaders. Price is still $2.25 to $2.50 depending on water temperature. The dryers have not been changed as of late Sept. 25 cents for 6 minutes. Bad news... Nabolom Bakery has closed. But there is a donut shop on Ashby and College Ave. Chocolate covered old-fashioneds are $1. Good lattes at the Beanery. There is a soap dispenser, but they are not high efficiency soaps. Beware of the change machines they can short change you. There is a Wells Fargo branch a block a way so stop in and get a roll of quarters. Free parking in the lot can be iffy. The lot is somewhat small. Even at 9AM on Monday there were only two open stalls. There is a public parking lot (paid) on Russell behind the stores on College Ave. read more

i never thought i'd be writing a review for a laundromat but the people who own this place are so nice i figured why not. i used one of the larger machines ($4.75) and somehow it got stuck on the rinse cycle. i patiently waited about an hour until i finally called about it and they said someone would be there in half an hour. sure enough, they came and even gave me $2 for the dryer for my trouble! they were very apologetic as well. aside from the friendly owners, this place is great! tons and tons of machines. i think the only downfall is the lack of seating. maybe they do that on purpose to keep the crazies out. either way, love this place. :) read more

Ok laundry, but the dryer just ate a dollar in quarters and didn't register it, dammit. Don't be lured in by the promised of free wireless internet. It's never worked anytime I've been here, which is always a drag after you've dragged your laptop here with all your laundry and all you want to do is watch Lost or check your email while your clothes dry. Me and the other guy in here right now are stealing wireless from Nabolom Bakery across the the street. Promises, promises. read more

This place really has all that you need to do your laundry and it is clean as well. They even have free wifi! I will definitely go here again. read more

Not a bad laundromat at all. I went this morning around 830am on a Friday. Nice and quiet, only two other individuals doing their laundry. There are about 6-8 parking spaces and next to a 7-11 and dry cleaners. Pretty clean inside too. 3 change machines. About 40 regular washers and 8 high capacity washers. And about 50-60 dryers. I love the old school video games, probably the only place I know of that still has arcade games. And free wi-fi. Good experience. read more

Went to this place because my apartment complex shares only one washer and one dryer, and it takes almost 3 hours just to do two loads of laundry. All of my clothes were washed perfectly and dried thoroughly in only one hour (25 minutes for washer, 30 minutes for dryer). The place offers free parking, and the machines are very high quality. Only a little bit more expensive than what I pay at my apartment complex, but infinitely better because of the quality and convenience. read more

This place is okay but there are a lot of college students as it's very close to the campus it can get pretty busy. Better than some of the other local options. read more

I guess I was there on a bad day. No staff in sight. The floor was dirty. The machines I didn't even check out too closely... Wifi didn't work...Good thing they have a few front loaders... read more

The spouse and I bought an awesome, extra plush mattress pad to make our firm mattress all squishy and comfy. We wanted to wash before using and surprise! surprise! we couldn't stuff even a third of it into our apartment's Lilliputian washer. So off to Elmwood Laundry we go on the strength of Yelp reviews and claims of gargantuan commercial washers and dryers. It ain't cheap to dry something like a mattress pad, but let me tell you, it's worth it -- both the washers and dryers made my "large" load look ridiculously small. Next time I'm hauling my apartment's washer along just to see if it'll fit inside Elmwood's industrial machines. The place was clean with plenty of seating. We got to the laundromat before 8:30 am on a Sunday and there was parking in the teeny lot out front, score! There were maybe two other people there when we arrived, and maybe six by the time we left (well before noon). The area is surrounded by shops and restaurants, so you can totally grab some food and beverage to spill on all your freshly-laundered items. So there you have it. Get there super-early and, even on a weekend, you'll be set like a stain dried on high heat. read more

This is really a great place for all the laundry-related reasons and more: There are plenty of washers and dryers (of different sizes and load capacities) so you don't run the risk of dragging yourself out there and waiting endlessly to have your clothes washed. The coin machines are always stocked (in my experience), which saves the hassle of worrying about change. The place is clean and spacious (unlike many other claustrophobia-inducing & crowded Laundromats). Besides all of the above, you don't need to worry about parking, there's free internet (if you need to work, study or just browse the net), and if you're not in the mood to sit around and wait for your clothes to be done, this place is on one of the liveliest and busiest streets in Berkeley! This means that you can plan to eat or grab a pastry/coffee at one of the many cafes and restaurants around there, or you can simply enjoy a walk around & check the little boutiques and shops. Go there if you want a hassle-free and fun laundry experience! read more

The place is clean, feels safe (in an Elmwood mini-mall next to an always open 7-11) and the tons of machines are mostly new, with a whole variety of sizes to fill all your needs---from regular weekly clothing wash to industrial-size machines for things like small floor carpets and heavy ski clothes. My only wish is that were a little cheaper, but otherwise, highly recommended. read more

Yes, it's all that - clean, machines running well (one time, though, I did see some poor dude have to hand-wring all his sheets because one of the washers didn't go into spin cycle; but that's an anomaly!), free internet, place to sit and wait. But the BEST part is that they have a video game that has all the oldies on it. I just have to be careful not to spend all my quarters on it before I get my clothes in the dryer! read more

Elmwood Laundry gets a review from me, even though I've only been twice. I am a supporter of any business that's Manger troubleshoots a problem for a customer, right away. My washer ate my coins, I called the Management Number (posted on the door) and within a half hour the Manager called back. He paid me back the money lost and was friendly. Thanks! read more

Everything I've ever wanted from a coin-op. Go for the single stack dryers on the east wall, faster than the double stack!

Just because this is the best laundromat in the area doesn't mean its any good. How is it that a laundromat whose line of business is washing and drying clothes still uses machines from the 60s. I think its time these places start using water and energy efficient machines that clean and dry better. Yeah I agree their ambiance is better but that isn't saying much at all. I'm boycotting all the laundromats until they get their acts together. I might be one person but together we can all make a difference (I do my laundry whenever I visit my friends in davis, which has been often enough to be able to avoid using the local facilities). read more

I tried it for the first time a month ago, and I really like it. Price is decent. The place is nice and clean. The only problem is parking. One time, I could not find a parking after drove around for a while, ended up going back home. read more

This is the cleanest laundromat I've seen. The floors, folding surfaces and equipment. Not so much as a hair when I look inside the washers.

I desperately needed to do laundry while subletting in south Berkeley and this location was the closest - I am just glad that there are plenty of machines that work, a soap dispenser and plenty of space. The hours are great and its overall very clean ( didnt check the wifi). read more

Very clean and safe, the manager is always stoping by to clean and keep the place looking good. I have never had to wait for a machine (maybe I shouldn't be saying this). I usually hate laundry mats but I enjoy this one. Parking can be difficult on the weekends. read more

The washers are on the expensive side (starting at $2.50 for a cold wash in a small machine, going up from there), but the dryers are a flat out scam: I put in 10 quarters for 60 minutes drying time. I would only need half as long with a normal dryer, but the dryers here don't get very hot, despite the fact that I always use the "HIGH TEMP" mode. I was standing right by the dryer, and at somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes remaining, it beeped and stopped running, clearing out the time remaining display. Reseating the dryer door and pressing "START" did nothing. I'd previously experienced finding a dryer to have already stopped when I came back at a time when there should have been 5 minutes drying time remaining. Whereas in a separate drying session, I fed the machine quarters one or two at a time whenever it got down to 15 minutes remaining, and didn't experience the early termination behavior. It seems pretty clear that they figure you'll go away for a while if you put a lot of time on the machine (the place is noisy smelly, and ventilated only by the open front doors), so they've programmed the machines to take advantage of that to rip you off. I really hate how this place is set up to scam those of us who can't afford our own full size laundry machines (and the house to put them in...). read more

This is the first laundromat that's felt safe in the Berkeley/Oakland area. Could use more front-loaders. Lots of great food in the area while you wait. read more

Great place with lots of washers (large and small). Have been here four times now. The boyfriend and I come from Oakland about once a month to do all the towels, blankets, sheets and regular laundry. Surrounding area is great for walking to grab a snack or just take a stroll. Have seen increasingly more dryers out of order but there are still plenty. read more

Great location! Walk to different places that are local. Just remember to bring quarters!

I love this laundromat. It is clean, it is in a great location, there is parking and it is just perfect!!! It is the best laundromat I have ever used. As much as we might not enjoy doing laundry, you can get it all done pretty quickly and either do work with their free wi-fi or walk around, grab coffee, eats or shop because it is in such a cute neighborhood. I no longer hate doing my laundry. read more

Cleanest laundry place around. I drive from Oakland to use it and they are very friendly!
