I hired Varelas Concrete to put in my stamped concrete patio. They did complete the job…read moresatisfactorily, not fantastic, but ok. My biggest issue is just prior to completion Araceli arrived and had them measure the patio and said it looked too big. She then said I owed an additional $812 because there was more square footage than was in the contract. The crew still had a few hours of work to do building a seating wall and two pillars, and I got the inclination that if I didn't pay, she would have pulled the crew and left the job unfinished. I foolishly paid her the extra amount because I wanted it completed, and I mistakenly trusted her. I didn't feel that the square footage was over the contract amount, especially since she was the one who painted it out when we first got the estimate. I measured the finished patio using two different methods of calculation and found it to actually be slightly smaller than the original contracted square footage. I wasn't worried about that difference, but the additional charge was certainly inappropriate. I texted her to which she initially replied, but I asked if we could have a conversation about it instead of texting. I asked to her to call the next day at her convenience and wished her a good evening. She never returned my calls, or texts from that point on to discuss the discrepancy like an adult. I highly recommend that you stay away from this company due to the poor communication and business practices of Araceli. The guys were pleasant while on the job, but the leadership is very unprofessional. She owes me $812 and refuses to communicate despite me being very polite and professional and wanting to discuss the matter like adults.
