As a young single woman, the thought of purchasing a multi-family home seemed daunting--never mind one that needed significant renovations. I initially tried working with several banks (both small and large) but I was either deterred by their lack of knowledge or their service. It wasn't until I was referred to Ellen Duncan that things started to work in my favor.
Ellen was understanding--She understood that purchasing a house is more than just an acquisition of property; it is a personal and monumental accomplishment that should be EXPERIENCED! She understood that my experience of turning a house into my home started with her!
Ellen was knowledgeable--She had a way of explaining a complicated process into the simplest terms. I had done a lot of research on the types of loans available to me; however based on my unique financial and living situation, Ellen and I were able to explore the best option. For me, the best option was a renovation loan. This type of loan allowed me to obtain a "brand new home" at a "fixer-upper" price. My house finished renovations in April and has become the house I've always wanted!
Ellen was incredibly responsive--When you are in a tough housing market and buyers are engaging in bidding wars, speed is key! Ellen, was incredibly responsive (fast and accurate). If I emailed Ellen, I almost always had a response within 1-10 minutes later.
Ellen was a friend--I must have seen over 40 homes, obtained 23 updated pre-approvals, and drafted 2 purchase and sale agreements, before I finally found my home. All along Ellen cheered me on through each disappointment. She assured me that when I saw THE HOUSE, I would know. She reminded me that the market can be tough sometimes but to remain positive. Above all, Ellen assured me that she would be there if I needed anything and she definitely stood by her word.
My experience with navigating the housing market was absolutely remarkable and I wouldn't have been such a wonderful experience without her. Ellen Duncan, thank you so much for helping me achieve my American dream!
