I've been coming to see Dr. Scheff for my annually check up since she was in the office located in Secaucus, which I can say it's been for more than 2+ years. From the very first visit with her, she made me feel extremely comfortable on what to expect with my visits, always explained everything in detail. She is most definitely a great doctor who is very professional, friendly & courteous. She takes her time getting to know her patients, and I think that's very important when choosing a OB-GYN. The staff is very friendly & polite. I'm always able to set up my appointments with no problem, her hours are great.. At least with my schedule. This new location is much bigger, of course very clean as her previous office was. I really like all the cute maternity & family pictures they have all throughout the office. It also has a good amount of patient rooms from what I saw. Once I was brought to the room the medical assistant asked me a few questions, my weigh, heigh, blood pressure etc. Shortly after I was seen by the doctor. I never have to wait more than 10 minutes. The rooms are spacious and It was set to the perfect temperature, Dr. Scheff asked me if I was too cold or hot she would adjust it for me. Quick & Easy! Questions as far as what type of insurance they take? I'm not quite sure, since I'm a self pay patient. Also if you need any prescriptions, they will send it directly to your pharmacy so you don't even have to waste time going to drop off your Rx. I needed an OBGYN last year and via google I chose Dr Scheff after reading several positive reviews. And I'm honestly glad I did. As I remember, my first visit last year was a breeze. The front desk ladies are super friendly and professional. So making an appt and checking in was easy. I recall arriving 30 minutes early knowing I had paperwork to do since I was new and I was probably called to go see the doc 20 minutes prior to my actual appt time. The office is spacious and very clean. My first visit was straight forward and prompt. Dr Scheff was quick but personable. I didn't feel rushed at all. But then again, I didn't have anything in particular going for me to take more time asking. Just went in for a routine. Most recently, I went again for a different reason. Again, the front desk is super sweet. Nurse is also good as well. Dr Scheff, upon reading back my history, remembered me from my first visit. When talking about the reason for my visit she took the time to gather all her knowledge and spoke to me about the different options and routes we will go through. She even gave me a call after my appt to let me know that upon thinking further about my case she wanted to change something about the plan. Which I thought was nice that she called and cared enough to think more into it even after I stepped out the door. Once she received results of my bloodwork and ultrasound (which was super quick. Only waited 4 days - which includes the weekend) she called me immediately to discuss my results and what my next steps are. Some people may think calling instead of seeing her face to face isn't personable but when you have a $$$ copayment these things matter.lol. I wouldn't want to pay $$$ for a 5 minute quick conversation. And Dr Scheff understands that. HOWEVER, that does not mean that you can't make an appt to see her! You definitely can and you can choose to do so. I'm just fine with a phone call (for this situation). If you're looking more for a doc who talks slower (Dr Scheff is a speedy one) and takes more than 15 minutes for an appointment (*note: time with patient and optimal care are not equivalent to each other. Meaning just because a doc takes longer doesn't mean they're taking better car of you and vice versa), I suggest searching elsewhere. As of now, I'll keep going to Dr Scheff :) read more

I had my first appointment this morning. Now, I am not sure if this was just a case of the Monday's, but I have never been so embarrassed and disrespected by a medical "professional" in my life. I had scheduled a routine Pap test, but I also had to discuss some concerns about my birth control. I had been waiting for this appointment for several weeks and wound up having my period. I spoke with the receptionist and nurse and was assured that although I could not get the Pap test, I could still discuss my concerns with Dr. Scheff. The nurse was wonderful and attentive, but as I waited in the room for the doctor to enter the room, I heard yelling outside. Something along the lines of, "if I can't examine her, why is she even here wasting my time?" I could hear the nurse trying to explain but she burst in yelling about just writing me a new script. I tried to explain my insurance situation and that I needed something new. But I could not get one word in. I was basically kicked out of the exam room and was yelled at further in the middle of the hallway. The entirety of the visit was in the hallway, while she sat in her office and yelled from there. None of my questions were answered, as I barely got to ask any. I wound up with a script for something that I didn't want, that I had several questions about and that ended up not even being covered by my insurance. I was told that my previous birth control shouldn't have been prescribed to me and was "malpractice" although, I am not entirely certain how I would classify this visit. But she was right, it was an absolute waste of time. read more

No complaint about doctors abilities and nice office and friendliness of the staff. My problem is waiting time. First 2 times I waited 1 hour each time in the waiting room and another half hour in the exam room. Naked of course Today went for exam for heavy bleeding. Waited one hour no one called. 15 more minutes, no call. Receptionist told me finally after my daughter asked that doctor is busy with other patient don't know how long will take !!!!! waited 10 more minutes and left, Still bleeding. Looking for new gyno. Dr. Scheff is simply an accommodating and listener who really is knowledgeable in all aspects. I came to visit Dr. Scheff and her staff are so friendly and amicable I felt at ease and intuitively felt I made the right choice to visit Dr. Scheff. The reason being to see her was for an annual exam that most women should be receiving between the ages of 18-25. I received a Pap Smear and did blood work with Dr. Scheff and it was a smooth and seamless process. She talked about every step and informed me of every detail as she was performing the check up. The worst doctor's office for communications. They never answer the phone, never return messages via email. I had to drive to their office today to talk to them. Alliance RX Walgreens Prime Specialty Pharmacy has been trying to reach them on my behalf for a month but to no avail. The attitude of the front desk is startling. Mixed information among them. Billed twice for the same procedure also. Dr. Scheff is knowledgeable enough but very aloof and difficult to talk to. rather than ask her questions I go to the internet for answers. I am used to a warm, friendly, caring doctor's office and this is more like going to a public clinic where you are just a number. read more

I'll start this off by saying I have no problem with Dr. Scheff she is a great doctor and I really loved having her as my OBGYN, but I just returned from what will be the last time seeing her because the office is ridiculous. I was able to previously ignore a lot of things because I really like Dr.Scheff, but today was the third strike. Strike 1: Two years ago I called the Secaucus office to make my annual appointment at which time I was informed that Dr. Scheff was no longer part of that office and that she had moved to Edgewater. I was given the number for the new office, but I was annoyed that at no point before me calling was I ever notified that my doctor was no longer at that office and was moved to a different office. Strike 2: I showed up for my annual last year and was told that I had a $20 copay. I tried to explain to the receptionist that this was a preventative care visit and thus 100% covered so there is no copay. Not only that, I have a high deductible plan so there are no copays- if the visit wasn't covered in full, I'd be paying the full amount out of pocket. I further explained to her that I am a health benefits analyst so not only do I know the general law of healthcare, but I certainly know how my health insurance works. She refused to believe me. So I took out my HSA debit card to pay the $20, as I had no cash on me. She then informed me they only take a cash and made me go across the street to the CVS to get cash. Strike 3: Today, I walked in for my annual appointment, at which time I was informed that I couldn't actually see the doctor because I was 10 days shy of it being a full year since my last appointment. Okay fine. But I made my appointment 2 weeks ago, no one thought to call and have me reschedule my appointment at any point in those 2 weeks?! I would have even been satisfied if they had called that morning, anything to have avoided leaving work early and driving all the way to Edgewater. I even got an automated message last night confirming my appointment for today! I will also mention that the previous posts about the wait time are spot on. I have not once gone to the office and not waited for at least 30 min in the waiting room and then another 20 min in the exam room, while naked. read more

I am sorry but I cannot recommend Dr. Scheff. She is impersonal, has too many patients to care about you, and not very good at explaining and discussing issues that you need to know but not familiar with. FYI, I had a disastrous 4-day induction that failed, and ended up with a C section. Dr. Scheff was actually doing her shift at the hospital during my stay. Being her own patient, she did not contribute more than other doctors that were on shift. She repeatedly ignore my signs of losing fluid. Very disappointing. read more

Dr Scheff is great. Has excellent bedside manner and isn't like many doctors who think they have all the answers. If she doesn't know something she will go back, research and get back to you with an accurate answer. To me this makes a great OB because there are so many changing rules. Sadly she didn't deliver for us because I switched insurances and Hoboken was out of network. I wasn't very pleased with my new doctor although giving birth at Englewood (where we ended up) was great. I really respected that she was on board with my plan to avoid as many interventions during my birth and supported my decisions. Too bad for the insurance issue. Dr.Scheff has been my OBGYN even before she moved to Edgewater. She is precise and to the point. She types everything down so she remembers exactly what was said and done previously. She's there to do exactly it what you came for. She will call you to go over results even if it's after the office closes. read more

I chose this office was very convenient for me. I have given Dr. Scheff few chances. First time I had to wait in the cold exam room for one hour. Second time after waiting for over 40 min she comes with a phone on speaker in her hand. She asked me to explain my symptoms while the loud phone was on speaker the whole time. Then she called me with my result just stating the results and offering no advice. I think she is over booked and impersonal. read more

Biggest. Loudest. shoutout to Dr. Scheff! Since she was the MVP Doctor who deliver my handsome, chunky monkey baby boy Yuri Levi !!!! - My OB/GYN works in a group of 4 or 5 doctors-she being one of them. The morning of my delivery- after 33 HOURS of Labor (baby Jesus take the wheel!!), before the previous Doctor was relieved from shift, I was fully dilated, ready to push but between me falling in and out of sleep- my push went from 6AM to 9AM . Didn't question why, didn't care why- as long as I can get some sleep and he was not in any distress, I was 100% cool with it. But when the nurses came in and let me know they were ready to do this, I was looking for my delivery doctor. And not even half a second after I thought that- she came through the door- out of breath and basically jumping into delivery mode in half a minute. My knight in shining Armor! lol- I found out a few second later , she literally ran from the 2nd/3rd floor to the 6th floor. I was blessed! She treated me as the priority I felt I was. This is my first child and I was EXTREMELY clingy- to my doctor. And being that she was delivering me, she got the best of it. She literally talked me through it, told me I was doing good, keep it coming- the usual amazing pep talk. I wasn't counting (found out I should've afterwards) but maybe 5 or 6 pushes later. 10 minutes max. a split happy place. my chunka monkey was HERE!! weighing 8 pounds and 14 ounces. GLORY! She sewed me up quite nice, looks like nothing came out of that happy place- it's back to being happy! lol She promised she'd be there to see me the following day for my baby's circumcision. And the following day she came in and walked me through the process of circumcising my son. Although he was a little cranky spanky after that for a hour. She made the stay at my hospital (Hoboken University Medical Center-in Hoboken, NJ) extremely comforting. She continuously stayed attentive, every single time I saw her. Dr. Scheff seems easily distracted. Her cell constantly going off. She was not very attentive and didn't really want to listen to anything I had to say. Dr Scheff delivered our baby boy. The labour was complicated. It took us almost three days and eventually finished with a c-section. We were lucky that she had her shift two days in a row. Dr Scheff makes you feel safe. She listens to your doubts and is very patient. I think her empathetic attitude helps her deal with different kinds of patients. I went to Dr. Scheff first and foremost because I wanted a female doctor. I had 5 very bothersome fibroids which were causing pain and long, heavy periods. She told me that my best option was to remove my uterus. She said "it's just a baby bag and since you don't want kids (I'm 47) it will take care of the bleeding. We will keep your ovaries so you won't go into menopause." After doing A LOT of research and finding out how detrimental this surgery is to women, I saw her a second time and told her there was no way I would let her remove my uterus. She told me that what I read and researched was wrong. That the uterus plays no role in sexual desire or orgasm, that I would not go into menopause, etc. She was VERY eager for me to speak to Dr. Asulin as he was her surgeon of choice for removing my uterus. Again, I told her there no way she or anyone else was performing this surgery on me, this was her response "there's no way I can perform a myomectomy (which is what I wanted) on you. Your uterus is so distorted there's no way I could put it back together." After finding The HERS Foundation and speaking with the founder, I was very well versed on this topic. If your doctor tells you you need a hysterectomy or they can't remove just your fibroids, then you need another doctor. In the hands of a skilled surgeon IT can be done. I went to Dr. Kathy Huang in NY - she told me my fibroids were NOT an issue and that she's seen worse cases thatn mine. She has performed over 2800 surgeries. On August 12, 2016 she removed all 5 fibroids and I am doing very well. Scheff may be able to deliver babies, but don't go to her for a myomectomy. MANY ob/gyn's do not receive this type of surgical training and will tell you you will bleed to death, or that the surgery is impossible to perform. FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR!!!!! Your uterus is a very valuable organ that serves your body a lifelong purpose, well past menopause. read more

Dr. Scheff called me and left me a voicemail to call her immediately because my test results came back and they were very concerning. I called back right away and she was not reachable at the time. I had to wait all day for her to call me back and tell me OVER THE PHONE that she believed I had cervical cancer and was referring me to an oncologist without even repeating the test or performing any of the routine follow up exams. Not to mention she asked me really rude questions regarding my personal life that came across condescending and judgmental all after telling me my test results. I do consider this a blessing in disguise because she did refer me to an absolutely amazing doctor who walked me through everything and told me based on the results she forwarded him that I did NOT have cancer but did have to be treated for the issue the initial test indicated. She scared the heck out of me with no actual basis for diagnosing me with what she believed was cervical cancer! In the future, it would be better tell someone to come in to discuss results and maybe even repeat the test before telling someone they have cancer!!!! read more
