I have been a patient of Dr. Mulligan and her nurse practitioner, Anne Miller, for a combination of ten years now. I have always found Dr. Mulligan to be kind and patient, as well as informative. Last I visited her office was in August 2012. I then took a consulting position where I was going back and forth from New York to Chicago for work. I found I could not come in for my annual appointment due to rarely being in NY anymore. I eventually ended up permanently moving to Chicago this past fall. Then, last month, I determined that it had been 18 months since my annual and began looking for a new physician in Chicago. I was given an appointment in early April 2014 due to the lack of new patient appointments available until that time. When I mentioned that my birth control prescription was running out, the new physician's office advised me to contact Dr. Mulligan for a refill to get me though until my appointment in April. When I did, I was told by her office that they would refill my script because they had already done so once this past fall. I understood but asked to speak with Dr. Mulligan nonetheless to ask about the possibility of going off the pill until the time of my new visit with the Chicago doctor. I had some concerns about doing so, especially given that I am 33 and I have been on the pill since I was 21 and I wanted to ask Dr. Mulligan's professional advice on the matter. That day I never heard back from Dr. Mulligan. I called the next day and left another message that went unanswered. Then called again and left a message on the answering machine, nothing. Finally after 5 messages, I asked the receptionist why I wasn't receiving a call back. She told me that she had, in fact, delivered all the messages to Dr. Mulligan and that she couldn't speak to why I wasn't receiving a call back. All she could do was "take another message." I understand that Dr. Mulligan knows I am going to start a new relationship with another physician and that she isn't going to give me a refill. However, she is still my doctor of record and is legally required to call me back as a former patient of hers. She is not permitted to just ignore me, especially because she holds a contractual obligation with my insurance company, and thus, cannot refuse care. I am really dumbfounded by her lack of response, especially after being being a patient for over 10 years now. While I have always found Dr. Mulligan to be wonderful in her bedside manner, I am in utter shock over her recent behavior, or complete lack there of. Frankly, her lack of response has really tarnished my impression of her and our relationship over the past 10 years. What a shame. read more
