    Nails by Elizabeth.

Elizabeth was able to accommodate my daughter and me at the last minute for special nails to attend a friend's wedding. It's the first time I have ever had a gel manicure and I am so impressed with the look and the endurance! Going on 2 weeks w barely a chip. See photo!

This was my first time getting my nails done in the midcoast area, I saw that Elizabeth Nails Spa was decently reviewed, and had won an award for being the best in the area for over 10 years in a row so it seemed like a solid choice. They have an online booking system so I submitted an appointment request for that day. I got a text from the service saying the shop would get back to me to confirm if they could fit me in. They never called. I ended up calling and confirmed they could see me, there was no indication that they ever intended to call to confirm. When I got there, it's your standard, semi run down salon, the building had recently been renovated and I think they were still working on totally setting up. From the beginning, they tried to upsell me. I asked for my previous gel manicure to be removed, she broke the seal on the old ones with the Dremel and then wrapped them to soak in the acetone. When done, she then proceeded to take off all of the old gel with the Dremel. I have never had a nail tech do it that way, I'm used to them using a non powered metal tool to scrape the rest of the old gel from my nail, she also never had me wash my hands after crating all the dust and using the cuticle cream. After removing my old polish she asked me how short I wanted my nails but not what shape, and then didn't cut them as short as I had asked (a few times). She barely talked to me the whole time, including not giving me instructions, she just expected me to know what she wanted me to do, and when she wanted me to do it. She did occasionally speak to her coworkers and other clients. The shop was not busy but she did a very hasty job on my nails. They came out super bumpy, polish edges too close to the cuticle, cut /filed crookedly, and she sealed some of the ends of my nails to my fingertips. Oh and they also were aggressive enough in the upsell that I did get a paraffin wrap which was actually kind of nice. When paying, they offered me a discount if I paid in cash which I didn't have. The edges started lifting quickly and they were catching on things by the end of the day. I had to pick some of it off to stop this from happening. Not wanting to go back, about a week later, when they were really lifting, I took them off myself. To my horror, I found that when she used the Dremel to remove the old polish, she had destroyed my nail beds. There are deep ridges exactly where the edges of my nails would have been when she did the manicure and many other deep marks from the Dremel. I feel like half of the bad polish job was related to the nail bed being so uneven when she was done with the Dremel and the other half was how she just really glopped it on there and didn't try to smooth it out. I'm really not sure how this salon has won an award for as long as it has. I cannot recommend it and will never go back.

I came to Elizabeth Nails after just moving to the area and looking for a new spot. I saw they offer biab and was very excited. I called and they were able to get me in same day at my preferred time. They were friendly and the salon was clean and a nice atmosphere. They also gave me a holiday gift, and that is why I'm giving two stars and not one. Besides that- during the biab manicure, my nails were not filed or shaped at all. I wasn't asked if I'd like to skip out on that either. Once the application process began, I noticed that the nail tech was not doing the method I'd seen done many times on me before by many other techs and in my research on biab. I thought maybe there was just another way to apply it. After going back and forth on some designs, she was unable to paint stars for me, so we opted for silver frenchies. Despite no shaping, I loved my nails when I left, and voiced I'd be returning. My main issue lies in the 13 days following my appointment. Biab is meant to last up to four weeks. Within about a week, mine began to lift. Around 10 days, it began to peel off. Yesterday, 13 days after getting the manicure, my thumb nail has completely peeled off. If there's one thing about biab, it is definitely NOT supposed to be able to peel off your nail. It usually requires filing or drilling to remove. I'm extremely disappointed as I feel like I got jipped into paying twice as much for a gel manicure. Especially all of this coming from a salon boasting the accolade "best in midcoast Maine"!

The pink/red spots under the polish is the old red polish from previous set that wasn't removed properly. Also crooked and bumpy.

DO NOT GO! Worst nails salon I've ever been to. They did my Dip nails in the pedicure chair... drilled them off without soaking. (I asked them to soak repeatedly) they would soak for a quick second and then keep drilling. They cut my skin twice and used the drill on my cuticles...They look terrible, you can see the previous color beneath the french polish. Pedicure was rushed and polish is awful. Literally crooked white lines on the french. Had to ask them to fix twice... still crooked. Didn't use any 2nd color for my French (like a pink or white) just used clear topcoat over the crooked white strip. I should have walked it but I was flying out the next morning. Awful! DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Over three weeks old, working as a landscaper and they're still holding up. Highly recommend!

It's easy to talk about fresh, new, pretty nails. However, that's not what I'm here for. These babies are three weeks, one day old. They're still holding steady, even though I work full time as a landscaper. Always amazing work done here, the only place I've found that can do nails that can hold up to the daily abuse I put them through.

Chipped gel pedicure after 5 days.

Worst experience at a nail spa EVER! First, as you walk through the door, they want to be paid in cash. Put a ATM in the salon to pressure you to use it, but it's now nonfunctional so they Pressured me to walk to the ATM down the street. When I refused I could tell they said something nasty about me in their language. Very shady business practice. Second, pressure to UPSELL a more expensive Type of mani/pedi. They don't just ask once they keep asking. I go to relax, not to be stressed by this type of unprofessional business practice. I want to know who is voting them best salon in Brunswick. They might have been at one time but not anymore. To top it all off the men in the salon literally started fighting loudly and almost came to violent blows had not the Women who work there separated them. Very negative stressful atmosphere to put it mildly! This happened three different times while I was there. In front of a full salon of women. Needless to say I got a subpar gel pedicure. 5 days and it's already chipped. Forgot to trim the cuticles because he got up three times to fight with the other employee. His hands were literally shaking from his temper tantrum. If I could report them to someone I would. Left the salon totally upset and stressed out!!! We left another salon because the staff argued all the time. Will NOT BE BACK AND WILL GIVE MY EXPERIENCE TO ANYONE SEEKING A SALON. DO NOT PATRONIZE ELIZABETH NAIL SALON in Brunswick Maine. Unethical, unfriendly, unprofessional UNCOMFORTABLE!!!!

Terrible shellac manicure, it's all over my cuticles, and the shellac lifted two days later.

I arrived early and selected a color from their very large selection. I used the bathroom first and it was very clean. Throughout my entire time here, it is very clear they take cleaning and using new products for every client very seriously. I selected the signature pedicure, which was great! The lower leg massage was thorough and very nice. Jon worked the knots in my calves right out! He also checked in often to make sure I was comfortable, the hot towels weren't too hot, etc. The tropical citrus scrub was very nice and my nails and cuticles were trimmed and cleaned up perfectly. The polish was painted perfectly and they looked really nice! The drier got them completely dry before I put my socks and boots back on. When I got home they still looked just as good. I will definitely be back!

I'm not sure I've ever been more disappointed with a haircut in my life. I had an absolutely…read moreterrible experience at Looking Glass. I was optimistic about my visit because I had a pretty good experience two years ago when the salon was on Maine Street. This time, I needed the dead ends cut off of my hair and wanted to have my layers touched up. My hair was quite long, and I knew that I'd lose quite a bit of length because I hadn't had it cut since August. When I arrived for my appointment (made the day before) in the late afternoon, no one was out front. I walked in and a few moments later a woman walked out, surprised that I was there. She asked me if I had an appointment, and then saw that I did, but told me they had closed early so no one else was there. She asked me what I was looking to have done, so (as I had on the phone) I explained that I wanted a shampoo and cut. She asked me at least three separate times for what I wanted, to the point where I said I had spoken to someone named Stacy on the phone yesterday and explained what I wanted to her. Turns out it was actually her, and I guess she had no recollection of anything we discussed or even the fact that I had an appointment. I sat down in the chair for my shampoo, and for the next twenty minutes was essentially berated for the quality of my hair. First, she noted that my hair knots up really easily. Which it really doesn't... I have straight, relatively fine hair that is pretty easy to deal with. She was attempting to run a "wet brush" through it and was having a difficult time, probably because the bristles weren't strong enough to really grab in and hold up against whatever loose tangles were in my hair. Instead of just working through it, she brought up my hair "knotting up easily" at LEAST three more times. She then proceeded to make the following remarks while looking for a reason that she was having so much trouble: "I put a LOT of conditioner in it." "Have you brushed it today?" "You must put it up a lot." "You must blow dry it every morning." "Do you put a lot of product in it?" I don't know why she had such a hard time with it, because no one has ever struggled to manage my hair. Anyway, once she started actually cutting it, she switched to making remarks about how DRY my hair is. Over and over and over again. She told me I wash my hair too often, use the wrong products, wash it the wrong way. I love to get advice on beauty-related things, but it's nice if they come as gentle suggestions rather than blunt remarks/criticisms. Isn't the point of going to a salon to feel beautiful? I felt anything but once I left. Every time I've had my hair cut elsewhere, a shampoo is always paired with a blow dry. Just makes sense. This time, I was immediately informed that having my hair dried after the cut would cost TEN additional dollars. So I said I'd pass. I appreciated the heads up, but thought that was a pretty ridiculous price jump. At the end of the cut, she kept asking me "are you sure you don't want it dried? I don't want to send you out with wet hair." I was damned sure I wasn't going to pay an extra ten bucks at that point. She gave it a once-over with the blow dryer (to clear her conscience?), and then I was done. At that point, alarm bells were going off in my head, so I wanted to get out as quickly as possible. When I got home, I decided to use a wet-to-straight tool to style the cut for myself. From a distance, I was fairly pleased with the outcome. Then, to my horror, I looked in the mirror and had a friend take a picture of the back. My hair, not only much shorter than I thought it would be, looks like a damned agricultural terraced field. It seems that Stacy cut my bottom layer by several inches, to the point where it aligned with my shorter blended layer. Instead of cutting that layer to match, it seems as though she just snipped at random so that my top layer is now roughly 1/4 inch shorter than the bottom and not blended at all. And when I say "roughly", I mean that a drunk person could have done at least as well if not better. All in all, after the way I was treated during the cut, I was at least hoping for a decent outcome so that I could forget it and move on. Instead, I'm wearing my hair in a bun until I can find someone I trust to fix it because it's literally embarrassing. Worst haircut of my life.

I loved my hair! I got so many compliments on it. She listened to everything I wanted and it came…read moreout perfect. The lack of 1 star is due to the location and the fact that I felt like I couldn't get a word in the woman was talking so much.
