Elite Technique is a hidden "gym" that stumbled across while searching for a personal trainer in the Upper Marlboro/Capital Heights area. I found the organization on Yelp and went to the @elite_technique instagram website and was immediately amazed by the results being shown. This was all I needed to see to convince me that this was place that I needed to join. I contacted Elite Technique via Yelp to establish my membership, in addition to asking any other pertinent questions and obtaining necessary details. You have the option of going to five days a week and an extra day of Saturday Morning Bootcamp is included. The sessions are normally thirty minutes (more so HIIT style) workouts that consists of specific plans for your specific goal. Elite Technique also provides meal plans, in which you can reach out to your trainer for motivation in remaining consistent. Each trainer is assigned one to two clients per session to ensure Social Distancing guidelines are followed. Everyone in the gym must also bring a large towel to cover equipment, in addition to wearing gloves that cover your entire hand. Elite Technique is constantly being cleaned by the trainers with disinfectant wipes/spray during and after the use of equipment. I was assigned Miguel as a trainer. Miguel pushes me and I really appreciate him for that. To be honest, all of the trainers are very friendly and motivating. So I just booked my second month of training with Elite and my trainer Janu. I love, love, love the hours available, they allow for flexibility. One thing I have noticed is how clean the facilities are and how the trainers are constantly cleaning/wiping things down. I have gained 35lbs since March of last year (2020) and I knew I have been slacking with my fitness as well as my diet. Elite has provided me with an outlet for working out as well as a meal plan that complements my goals. I am on my 3rd week now and down 10lbs. Nothing but positive vibes at Elite Technique! I've been working out with them for over a year and they have contributed to my health journey in more ways than one. It's a smaller gym with a structured program and what I most appreciate is the accountability aspect. Because it's a smaller gym, there's a ton of positivity and camaraderie which, in my opinion, is a great attribute when you're working out. As an example, as soon as you walk in the door you're greeted with a warm welcome from all of the trainers...not to mention the collective excitement after a successful weigh-in! I joined the gym (Clinton location) September 2023 and have toned up tremendously, while suffering from frozen shoulder and fragile knees. I was assigned to Deon as my trainer and couldn't be more satisfied. He is patient with me and encourages me to go harder. His integrity towards his craft is what stands out the most. He studies ways to work around my issues to provide effective training sessions and the exercises show results. My shoulder and knees have gotten stronger. Update: They say like chivalry, customer service is dead. Well not at Elite Technique. I was dissatisfied with an interaction with one of the trainers at the bootcamp and wrote a review (which I still stand by) and the business owner commented. He didn't write me off or try to flip it, he just apologized for my dissatisfaction. Also, my personal trainer reached out. All personality types don't mesh. The individual isn't a trainer at the location I go to so moving forward it's a non-issue. My personal trainer has been great and now I know the owner cares about his clientele also. You get a meal plan, good training sessions, bootcamps on Saturdays and it's affordable.I would suggest anyone looking to get in or stay in shape to give them a try. read more

NEW MOMS DO NOT SIGN UP ! I signed up two months postpartum. I thought it would be as their website stated "personal training". I was sadly mistaken. They have a set cookie cutter train plan that doesn't take into account your unique situation (which I mentioned when I signed up). I worked out one day and it was horrible. For starters the facility is extremely small and it was packed to capacity. Everyone is running around you, it's loud music playing, and people sweating four feet from you. I couldn't hear my trainer over the loud music and was confused/lost most of it. The trainers are working with other clients but the other clients may be on the other side of the room so they are jumping back and forth. If you're confused, have a question, etc you have to wait. As I mentioned I could barely hear the directions and I wasn't given enough attention to understand the form of lifting weights. The machines aren't wiped down in between people rather they ask you to bring a towel to sit on as a way to accommodate which isn't sanitary (ie what if people have sweat on their towel). Staying healthy is a priority for me with a new baby at home. I wasn't told to stretch or given any tips on proper techniques for weight lifting. I didn't even get the gloves I prepaid for so I had to lift without gloves. To top it all off he gave me weights without assessing my ability to handle that amount. On the machines I legit couldn't move the weights the trainer just picked whatever he thought was best. I cried after the session. I was overwhelmed with the loudness of the facility and the lack of attention I got. I came into it very excited to get back to my old self and I was frustrated with the lack of compassion I was met with. To make matters worse the diet was horrible. They give a standard diet plan to EVERYONE. I am a nursing mom. My milk production dropped following their plan. I talked to Sherman in the front office about it and he said "just add some fats Ie avocados". That didn't help, I needed more food. Starving myself is not how to take care of my body or my child. Not only did my milk production drop but I had a sever headache. They didn't adjust anything to accommodate that I'm a new mom and I breastfeed. So I had to deal with the repercussions of the diet with a hungry crying baby all day. The same diet plan that you give to everyone WILL NOT WORK FOR A NURSING MOM! Sherman will not give me my money back for the rest of the sessions, I never got the gloves I purchased, and I feel defeated. The entire situation was so hurtful. As a new mom it takes a lot to try to get back to your old self. It takes a lot to leave your new baby even for a workout. The environment, the cookie cutter training, and the diet is not for me. read more

Where do I even begin with this place. So first let me say I worked out at Elite for 6 months before finally deciding to leave. I realized that this organization is 1000% fueled solely by money and not actually caring for their clientele. I think they presume because they have various locations it shows that they are doing something but if you actually research a bit regarding their attrition you'll see it's mainly fluff. Pros: 1). You will get stronger but not necessarily build muscle definition. Cons: 1). Inexperienced trainers. My trainer was fired and there was literally no notice given. I got a generic text saying he wasn't available anymore and I'd be reassigned. You can imagine how difficult that can be when you finally work up the courage to workout, establish a relationship with a trainer then you have to start all over again. And they just acted like nothing happened. My trainer when I contacted him wasn't even aware he had been fired. 2). The workout is a strict 30 mins. You are allowed to get water once during your session. So don't expect to stay hydrated so you don't pass out. They offer no level of HIIT, cardio, anything and instead expect for you to do that on your own. They have a one size fits all approach when in reality everyone's body and needs are different. However, when modifications for changes are shared, they are frowned upon and not taken seriously. You must bring in your own gloves and towel or face NOT being able to work out for that day. 3). Workouts are redundant and lack creativity to really help push you to the next level. Their version of being pushed to the next level is you carrying a heavier weight or telling you to sign up for another package so you can come in more days. Most of the pictures they post of people who have "extreme" results are because those people are working out somewhere else once they leave Elite. Either they are going to Orange Theory, doing YouTube videos at home, running, taking teas, etc. But Elite will not share that information because they genuinely want to believe that those results were achieved by lifting weights only. It's a LIE. 4). Lack of flexibility. Be prepared to be asked to bring in a doctors note, travel itinerary or possibly have one or several of your PAID sessions cancelled. Despite providing advanced notice to your trainer about your plans, it's based on their discretion if they want to reschedule you. One instance that really helped me make up my mind, once my child was sick, I had to stay home and take them to the doctor, obviously missing out on two sessions. I informed my trainer but as soon as I asked to reschedule once my child recovered, they asked me to provide them with my child's doctor's note!! I am not making this up. A friend of mine who went there also was asked to provide her travel itinerary for work to show PROOF that she would be traveling. Another friend of mine, his father got sick, he informed his trainer he would have to travel to go stay with his dad to help him recover. The trainer said sure no problem, he'd rebook/reschedule once he came back. He had at least 10-12 sessions he had already paid for IN ADVANCE. Upon his return the trainer said he couldn't honor those sessions unless he was willing to sign up for a whole new package! There are various other stories that I heard from other patrons of this establishment that shared this same experience. This place has more requests than the job I work that pays me so I can pay them. 5). The meal plan they offer is not realistic for long term maintenance. 6). I ended up with a busted knee after going here. Despite sharing with my trainer that the weight was too heavy doing leg presses, I was told to "push through." It's mind over matter, and because you assume they are a professional, I followed suit, only to later end up needing a knee brace and to stay off it for sometime. I could go on, but I'll stop here. I say all this to say do your research, their approach may not be the best for you as I found their techniques to be unrealistic. read more

I always struggled with gaining weight and muscle and really being disciplined in the gym. Phenomenal personal training service!! Been coming for close to a year and my results/ experience has been life changing! Not only did I surpass my initial weight loss/ toning goals but I was able to gain have a better and more informed/healthier perspective on nutrition and fitness. Permanently developing just an overall healthier lifestyle. As anyone can see from viewing their extensive before and after archive (visit their Instagram page), Elite has a wide and diverse range clientele from: men and women, young and old, different body types and different fitness goals(muscle gains vs. weight loss). It's very difficult to find a good and reliable personal trainer and I haven't come across any others in the DMV area with as many documented results. With Elite you not only get training sessions but also a detailed meal plan (which is EXTREMELY important). Trainers: the trainers are challenging and will push you (which is a good thing) but are also very personable and professional. You don't just get a "drill sergeant" but you an actual human being. They're very knowledgeable on food nutrition, exercise form, technique and post-workout recovery. The trainers are typically very responsive and timely with communications and are always on time for appointments. Atmosphere: the environment is very safe and professional, not like most places which can be intimidating for those not in shape or natural athletes. The environment is safe, positive and very family-oriented. You're not siloed as you're usually surrounded by other clients training at the same time. The other clients have begun to feel like family as we've formed a great support system sharing in our successes, struggles and providing helpful tips to one another. It's amazing to have built-in "gym buddies" and such has helped to make all the difference in providing additional motivation and support. This has also made coming to Elite an enjoyable experience and despite the aches and pains, coming into Elite each time is something I honestly look forward to. The Program: as I mentioned Elite is able to tailor a plan for each clients specific requests whether it's weight-loss, toning, muscle gain and etc. They're able to target specific areas and work at the pace of each individual client. They will push and challenge you but what you will find is that you will get better with time (stronger and faster). There were things coming in that I could barely do, weights I couldn't imagine lifting and now I am able to do /lift with no problem. I've also seen them modify routines for those with pre-existing injuries or bodily limitations. The other major component without a doubt is the meal plan! I've worked with another trainer in the past who was alright but didn't have any sort of meal plan or prescriptive guidance on how to eat. As they say what eat matters more than how much you exercise. That's why it's so crucial that Elites supplies a detailed meal plan!! The meal plan isn't all that bad or too complex. It includes foods that you most likely already eat and that are relatively easy to prepare and find. The plans are also tailored to your fitness goals and there are vegan meal available if needed. Overall, this a do-able process all it takes is for you to come in and commit. The results are reasonably quick depending on the frequency in which you train, exercise/stay active on your own time, commit, and follow the meal plan. You may struggle a bit starting out but if you hang in there you will improve and condition your body. There's no quick fix, shortcuts or overnight results, just come-in, work hard and commit and through time you WILL SEE RESULTS!! read more

In preparation for our wedding at the end of the year me and my fiancée decided to sign up and commit to getting back in shape before the big day. 2 months in and 20 lbs down! To begin, ET allows for new comers to sign up for a one time free boot camp. On the morning of this boot camp we arrived early and noticed nobody else was showing up. We called numerous of times and even sent a DM on IG inquiring about what was happening. Just so happen another new comer was there but had a number for his assigned PT. When he contacted her she stated that boot camp was cancelled due to the weather. This info is only provided in the GroupMe chat that ET has. Not once did they announce the cancellation on their socials or even consider that new ppl may show up who aren't in the chat. Right there was MY red flag however, my partner gives the benefit of a doubt. So we leave and I contacted one of the managers directly to express my frustration with the lack of communication. He did apologize and offer an additional free boot camp. Moving on, we decided that we would start by signing up for a month. We were assigned to Shawn and everything started out fine. We were going 3x a week in the evening. I would say things got a little rocky during our second month. There were some family emergencies that our PT had to address however, the issue was the lack of communication. We showed up one day our trainer was not there without notifying us but luckily we arrived early enough to catch the last trainer and he so kindly put us on his schedule that day. There was also another incident where I had to reach out directly to the manager because I was texting our trainer and he wasn't responding. After speaking with Khalil I did receive a call from Shawn explaining his situation. To be transparent, I do not like lack of communication but throughout this process we had been extremely patient and understanding and never let anything impact us showing up and giving our best. So, before our last session (month 2) we were contacted via text by another trainer who stated that Shawn wouldn't be training us and that she would. Fine, but this issue was that Shawn failed to be apart of that conversation. Here we were building a relationship with our trainer over a two month time frame and here it was our last session and he couldn't have the decency to even text or call to let us know what was going on. On the last session, my partner took his last set of pictures and requested that he be sent his before and after. He was told that Shawn had the before pics so he'd have to wait. During the waiting game, Khalil reached out and apologize for our experience and offered a free week. During this conversation my partner asked yet again about his pictures. He was ignored and when he followed up he was told that it's being worked on. The next text we received a few days later was that they didn't have the before pictures. The reason being was because Shawn never uploaded them. This was highly disappointing because Shawn told us that the pics were automatically uploaded once they were taken. In response to Khalil's text, my partner and I both expressed disappointment with the overall quality of service we received. I expressed how it was unacceptable that there are rules that PTs are supposed to follow yet there is no one holding them accountable. In my opinion, If managers were actually following up it would have been noticed immediately that the pictures were never uploaded. After our response to Khalil he never texted back. Which to us was quite disrespectful. Here we are, two clients who have paid $600 a piece and can't even get the respect of a response. But were we surprised? Absolutely not. When it comes to communication, accountability, and professionalism, ET is NOT it. We gave chance after chance just to be ignored and disrespected in the end. As far as the environment, it's cool. The trainers are typically very friendly and upbeat. Training styles are different from my observation. While they post their most successful clients, I do not believe that their meal plan is sustainable. It is a diet. If it works for you, great. I think that they should be more knowledgeable about various ways to eat without going on a diet. The whole purpose should be people adapting to a lifestyle that they can maintain. My doctors even told me not to follow their plan. Again, my experience, it may have worked and will work for many. In the end, due to everything taking place we decided not to move forward even with the free sessions that were given to us. Funny thing is, we were assigned a new trainer and he didn't even reach out to us before our initial first session with him to introduce himself or to confirm we were even coming. The evening of our first free session not one text or call to say hey are you guys coming. Nothing! Just goes to show you how much concern they have. And no we did not communicate our decision. For one we were never provided our new trainers contact info and to be honest, that conversation was for Khalil had he not left us on read. Anyway, all we can say is move with caution. read more

Elite Technique is the best personal training/gym I've been to in my entire life! I've been a client with Elite for 1.5 years thus far, and my results have been nothing short of amazing! I remember walking through the doors on my first day of training, and I immediately felt welcomed by all of the trainers and clients! On my first session, I was very nervous and lacked confidence in myself, as the weight I gained was the heaviest I've ever been in my entire life. I remember looking on the wall throughout the gym at client's pictures, and all I could think to myself was "I'll never make it to Elite's Hall of Fame". I even contemplated about not coming back as I held back endless tears, simply because I didn't believe in myself, and all I could think of is how much weight I had gained. I was semi-depressed behind it to say the least! I even thought the results were too good to be true for the client's posted on their site (lol), until I actually saw all of the clients in person, and was taken back by all of the REAL LIFE NATURAL SNATCHED BODIES! Not to mention, I trained elsewhere prior to joining Elite, and was extremely unsatisfied with the training. Needless to say, my trainer; Khalil, personally picked up the phone to call me, and ensured me that I will get to my goal! He would not allow me to quit! He believed in me, more than I believed in myself. That alone spoke volumes to me! And it's a conversation that I still cherish till this day, while being a mirror to others who are in the shoes I was once in. Additionally, one of the other trainers; Orlando contacted me as well! (Mind you he wasn't even my assigned trainer). And still till' this day, they call/text me to have me send them my meals, and ensure I am on track at all times, which I truly appreciate. I say all of this to say, the trainers are very passionate in helping you attain your desired goals, and have your best interest at heart! They are extremely personable, always accessible, very attentive (so attentive to the point where I've gotten caught a few times trying to cheat my workouts when I first began training, lol), and the gym is fun! The workouts are intense, but very feasible. I have so much fun doing the workouts, that I don't want to leave a lot of times when my session is complete, lol. Elite is like one big family. You will definitely feel home away from home when you enter the gym! I trained with Khalil and Orlando. I've established numerous genuine friendships with a variety of clients. And last, drumroll....I made it to Elite's Hall of Fame! And still today, I am still in awe of my results, as I look at my before and after picture. Fast forward to today, I cry happy tears! Elite has truly changed my life. It is worth every penny! I wake up very happy nowadays, full of energy, and most importantly feel healthy and extremely confident again!
