Arrived last week to gain some more knowledge from my fav range master Tom. His patience and skill level is impressive. He is constantly sharing tips to help me improve. With his help, my compression of firearms has completely broadened, from maintenance to new types of pistols I'd never heard of. I plan my range visits on days I know he will be there because his teachings are something I truly value. It's pretty amazing to know that it wasn't long ago this was just a "fun once in awhile activity," and now, because of this range master, I'm entwined into this whole new level of firearms and firearm safety. We bring all our friends and fam to this range because of him, especially first timers. Everyone leaves feeling positive. A secondary proof of residence is ONLY when buying a hand gun in California. Not a rifle. I took my business to feild Of Glory 3 blocks away(cheaper too) and they know the laws and don't make you go through bs that isn't necessary (just because he's too lazy to or proud to be proven wrong. These guys are great…read more I'd been wanting to get back into shooting for a long time, but I'd keep procrastinating because it seemed like a lot to take on without some assistance. I started talking with Jim one day because I wanted to pick his brain about 1911s and ended-up booking a lesson. He was great at figuring-out quickly what I already knew and was comfortable with, and where I needed new instruction. At the range, he had me shoot a couple of different 1911 designs, as well as a couple of other firearms chambered in the same caliber, so I could get a feel for what I like. My heart was still set on a 1911, though I left thinking about a couple of potential future buys that wouldn't have occurred to me otherwise. After we finished at the range, he walked me through all the options I had at the shop and helped me pick out my first gun. Jim also introduced me to his partner Aidan, who was really great at helping me to get started stocking up on ammo to learn with as affordably as possible. I've already made another appointment for some follow-up instruction after I do a little practice to lock-in what he taught me. If I could afford to, I'd sign up to learn just about anything Jim or Aidan had to teach me. They've both been a great resource to help me get off the ground with shooting.

I had a two hour lesson with Coach Don and…read moreI'm really pleased with the amount of education and hands-on instruction I received in such a short amount of time. We spent the first hour of the lesson on classroom instruction. I learned the history of the most common hand guns used, why someone would prefer one type over another, the differences between single and double action, and how different handguns suit different individuals. Don made sure I felt confident handling the different types. By the time we entered the firing range, I had learned proper stance, range etiquette, how to load a magazine, and the importance of proper technique when racking the slide. But the most unexpected thing I learned was that my nervous system (as a first time shooter) would be taxed. He explained that my first shot would likely be my best shot because once I knew what to expect I would begin to anticipate and I would have a bit of a "fight or flight" response. I never would've expected that and so when it happened, I was well prepared. Even though most people know to expect the sound and the kickback of a weapon, you're not really prepared for it if you've never done it before. Sure enough, my hands got shaky, my breathing got shallow my heart rate raised, but he coached me on how to relax and breathe through it. I was pretty proud of how well I did and I really look forward to my next lesson!
