Upon receiving delivery of the car on 8/26 at 11:46 the odometer was at 49792. I noticed the car had basically no gas, however I was assured by the representative that the car would be able to drive another 45 miles. Per the attached rental agreement you can see I was told the car had 1.7 gallons of fuel in it. While attempting to drive from this enterprise location to Keck USC for my doctor's appointment (which is only 25 miles away) the car suddenly ran out of gas while I was on the freeway at around 12:10 literally minutes after taking delivery. The odometer was at 49806, I had only gone 14 miles. I attempted to contact enterprise while stranded on the 10 freeway in 100 degree weather however received no response. I had to call AAA for roadside assistance who were fortunately able to arrive at around 12:40 however by then I was unable to make my doctor appointment and was forced to reschedule for a much later date. When I returned the car later that day and notified the staff what had occurred they tried to back pedal on the claims of the car being able to drive for 45 miles however they had nothing to say after I showed them their own documented fuel level in the rental agreement. Given the manufacturer's EPA rating of 28 miles per gallon highway I should not have been stranded on the highway and missed my appointment if the car actually had 1.7 gallons of gas in it.

Avis corporate customer service found this area that has the type of car that seats 7, not the SUV as originally reserved but a Chrysler Pacifica van instead. I am already perturbed by this mishap and having to scramble to find a suitable vehicle for my needs . Sadly at this location the owner who helped me did not seem like he was happy to be there , his facial expression was stern , cold demeanor. Not welcoming one bit . I asked for him to explain the collection of funds put on hold on my credit card. He looked annoyed having to asked to repeat and explain what he meant to me again. I never had to sign any forms stating a specific amount of money to be held. I am used to walking to the airport Avis location and walking to the kiosk to find my stall number and drive the car off the lot . We are back after renting for 3 days and here to return the car . They tell you about the damage waiver and its' cost but didn't mention the additional 24 hour roadside assistance that costs another $9.99 a day and is added in. I also noticed that the same thing happened to a couple who was ahead of us renting a car, they were talked into the additional insurance coverage and when they saw the contract commented that the extra coverage cost nearly $600 for a 4 day rental and was more than the cost for the car. Overall the staff working were trying hard but they weren't able to process the customer volume and their manager wasn't on site to assist. I won't be back to that location in the future. I honestly felt taken advantage of by the roadside assistance coverage being added and the wait to return the car was not reasonable.

Avis/Budget representative, Hugo, made things work. I was upgraded to a 7-passenger mini SUV. The vehicle issue worked out better than I planned; customer service was top-notch (thank you, Hugo), and to my surprise, Avis offered better pricing than many other car rental companies. Their customer service emailed me back real quick but as soon as I responded, crickets. No response, nothing. Their customer service number doesn't even work at all. If you noticed your package was supposed to be shipped by "Piggyship" ... forget it. File your refund claim now or at least call your credit card company now and dispute it.
