Harris Kennels

Harris Kennels

(1 review)

It's been 5 or so months since my puppy was delivered with PARVO disease.--(see initial review)…read moreand I still feel extremely bad about how Jim Harris and Matt Harris Kennels handled this situation. Looking back on it now, it really was a fixable problem. Jim and Matt could have simply been helpful and offered guidance --I would have been blown away if they'd helped AT ALL--the dog was very sick and the vet saved him--I have learned that PARVO is deadly but if you go a vet--the dog can be saved--there is little doubt that Jim and Matt have full knowledge of the vet-process of PARVO and could have really helped me through this--for me, this was my first experience with PARVO--but they did not help at all--and instead--literally hung up the phone. I still remember Jim saying he 'didn't want to be insulted', and was hanging up the phone. I still remember Jim on the phone saying, 'I ain't gonna pay for any o' that.' I paid my Vet about $1200 to bring this essentially near dead on arrival Pup back to life. Jim and Matt could have just been good guys and helped out. The really sad part is that this dog--who is now 6 ms old... is a beautiful, intelligent, fantastic companion. And when I look back on the terrible and disgusting treatment I got from Jim and Matt, it all feels so regrettable. This kennel produced a beautiful, intelligent, wonderful dog--but they were perfectly happy to let it die within a couple weeks of arrival. Jim and Matt certainly had no reservations whatsoever to let the dog die... as long as I paid $300 more to deliver another (potentially sick and dying animal) to replace him. But now that I have my growing pup--and he is so wonderful and sweet and clearly a well-bred dog... it's a riddle to me. Why would these two guys, Jim and Matt-- who obviously know how to breed a beautiful dog--not give a sh%t that the dog arrived essentially dead on arrival with full-blown PARVO? I look at my growing dog and I think, wow... Jim and Matt would seemingly not care at all if he had died within a couple weeks of delivery. Jim and Matt could have been informative, kind, helpful when my dog was delivered VERY SICK--even if they offered no funds to save the dog--they could have at least--been helpful and held our hands through the scary and sad experience.

Breeder Yes, adopting is ideal. I've adopted, too…read more Sometimes, however, getting a dog from a breeder is the best option, like for those of us with hardcore allergies, or for other reasons may want a non-shedding dog. In those cases, finding a good breeder who not a puppy mill is essential. I did much research prior to deciding what breeder to select. I read about warning signs and looked at reviews, history with state regulators, and the breeders' own transparency. One breeder refused to let anyone on their property; puppy pickups happened at local truck stops. Jason at Kingdom Dogs answered all my questions. When I finally decided to visit them, I still wasn't sure about getting a puppy. They happened to have a few unclaimed yet, and we fell in love with a floofy little cockapoo. He is now more than a year old, and a whopping 35 pounds (he was supposed to max out at 30), but has the sweetest disposition and is smart, too. Oliver brings us joy every day. I give Kingdom Dogs 4 stars instead of 5 because, at the time we got Oliver, they were still docking cockapoo tails in the tradition of Cocker Spaniels. While his little nub is cute, I'd prefer tails be left natural. I think they stopped that practice in 2020, but I'm not sure. They also have slowed down the breeding so they have a waiting list now, ensuring that there are rarely puppies available who have to wait to be sold. This is better for everyone. Kingdom Dogs is located on farmland in Carthage, Missouri. It's a family business. A few months ago, I met another cockapoo owner at the groomers. He had a dog with him from Kingdom Dogs, too. He said that was his second, and he was thinking about getting a third, because of their sweet disposition. If I got a third dog, I would have to get on Yelp for referrals for divorce attorneys, realtors, and moving companies!

From the very beginning, they were extremely responsive, which, if you've been searching for a new pup, you know is important and rare. They answered all of our questions, sent updates and pictures as Cosmo was aging to perfection, and made the transaction so easy. On the day we came to pick up our new baby, we were provided with detailed directions to their home, and instructions on what we should do upon arrival, paying close attention to safety precautions due to COVID-19. Once we arrived and met our new guy, Debbie's years of experience with dog breeding was apparent. She had all of our paperwork, lists of medications, supplies for our trip home, and went over everything with us to be sure we had no questions. Two days after bringing Cosmo home, he went to the veterinarian and they gave him a great bill of health, and also commended Ford's lil Paws for their thoroughness. On their web page, you can read more about how much care they put into their breeding process. I honestly feel like they go above and beyond to ensure the safety and cleanliness of their kennels, even giving newborns and their mothers a special place to bond. Amazing job, Ford's lil Paws! We are so thankful to welcome our healthy and happy pug baby, Cosmo!
