After adopting rescue dogs for over 40 years, I didn't think getting another would be difficult. Our beloved dog passed 3 days after the new year and my 15 year old chihuahua was lonely. I applied to at least 5 rescues/animal shelters with No Replies. I came across Eleventh Hour Rescue on social media and applied for a dog. They processed and approved my application quickly but the dog we wanted wasn't yet available. My daughter and I decided to bring my chihuahua to one of their Saturday adoption events to meet some dogs. We weren't sure what type of dog would be a good match so it was a perfect way to test different dog energies. My chihuahua didn't hit it off with any available dogs but we were told they would keep us in mind for others that weren't at the event. All of the staff and volunteers are wonderful! They understand not all animals are a good match for your family but that doesn't mean you are not worthy of adoption. Paul, the dog trainer/behaviorist and Vanessa worked with us to find the perfect dog. It took about 2 weeks from applying to the meet and greet and we came home with the most PERFECT dog. We are all so in love with her and could not be happier! This rescue works hard to place their animals. They understand their behaviors and are transparent about issues or concerns so you can make the right choice for your family. We adopted Little Momma now known as Gemma. We are happy to be connected to EHR and recommend this rescue organization highly!

In 2018, I walked into the Eleventh Hour Rescue at Rockaway Mall and walked out with my furbaby, Ally. However, before I could adopt "Kelly Kapowski," Eleventh Hour wanted to make sure we were a good fit and that we would take good care of her. They did a reference check, called my vet, spoke to the president of our condo association. They were thorough and needed to know that she was going to a home that would love and spoil her. Love and spoil her is all we've been doing for 7 years now! I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend anyone looking to adopt, please drive to Rockaway Mall and rescue a pup. The workers and volunteers are so amazing and I appreciate all of the work that they do. They travel all over (Our Ally came from Alabama!) to rescue these furbabies. I can not thank them enough and appreciate everyone who works for Eleventh Hour - they are kind, selfless and amazing human beings!

My application was quickly accepted after calls to my vets and references. I was adopting as my beloved canine partner and co-parent to my younger jack russell passed away following an extended illness. My small boy was eager for a play-mate. The first two dogs we were excited to meet were not a good fit for us and we thought it was a sign that it wasn't the right time. Until the lovely volunteer we were working with, Marie, introduced us to her foster pup. She had watched our interactions with other dogs and saw the personality of my JRT and his disposition and encouraged us to meet whom we now call Nancy. Nancy has a fear of men and a timid personality and thought my good natured boy would be the perfect companion to allow her to come out of her shell and shine. Best decision for me, my JRT and I think for Nancy too. I am forever grateful for these folks who go above and beyond to find the the best match for the animal and the family. An incredibly difficult job the volunteers do which I think is often overlooked. Thank you for completing our family!

Then March of this year, our 2nd boy passed over the Rainbow Bridge. Recently we decided we missed having two canine family members and set out to begin the search for a friend for our dog Daisy (also a rescue) and I knew about Eleventh Hour Rescue and the work they do for a while and had attended events like Puptoberfest. When we saw there was a Winter market happening at the Sussex fairgrounds, we got our pre-appoved application completed and attended the event with Daisy hoping to meet a particular dog. When it turned out the beautiful girl in question wouldn't be quite the right fit for our family, we came close to leaving and determined to search through other adoptable dogs with 11th Hour when we were asked if Daisy wanted to meet Jett, who we'd missed. We did an introduction and short walk together with one of the volunteers and our family. It became quickly apparent that these two would become fast friends and he was super friendly immediately with our whole family. Jett came home with us that day and immediately seemed to feel right at home. But he wasn't answering to his name, so we bounced a bunch around and thought we'd have to use a process to change it, but we came up with Remmington III (Remmy casually) and he began answering to that almost immediately. We are on day 3 and we all couldn't be happier. Everyone who volunteers with Eleventh Hour from the pre-approval process to the event staff were so welcoming, encouraging and wonderful. They do a fantastic job of vetting potential adopters so that each animal finds their perfect furever home. I would recommend anyone searching for a furry family member to consider them.

I am someone who tries to be an optimist and will give situations multiple chances before making a final opinion. But this time is my last time. My dog was working with one groomer in specific (Sofie M) and they seemed to have an understanding for each other. Recently I found out that she left the company, and my dog had to go to another groomer. Not only did I come back to my dog's hair being terribly cut, but I had to pay a fee for him being 'too much'. The groomers said that the reason was because of my dog but it leads me to question how (with the exception of the very first time) for months everything was fine but now he is acting up? They then told me that they would not be able to help my dog unless I drugged him. In addition, the blonde lady has given me extreme attitude the last 3 visits and had acted annoyed that she has to be there and help me. She not only had me wait but she had me wait to continue to be on her phone. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt because I understand people have off days, but this last time made me think not only is that maybe her personality but also maybe my dog wasn't the problem. So, it's not okay for dogs to act up when they don't feel safe but it's okay for humans to? It is truly shocking that people who are supposed to be able to work with animals can't work with them unless they are drugged.

And my second favorite part is calling the East Hanover Banfield for TWO HOURS hoping someone will pick up the phone (after the phones were turned off for the first hour they were open), and no one ever does - then leaving a message explaining you think your dog is dying and needs to get looked at, isn't eating, possibly has a really bad infection in their mouth and not getting a call back within the 24 hours that the answering machine says they will call back. Banfield is great if you don't need any immediate attention, aka a regular checkup. However, during an emergency, they are the absolute worst. The Drs themselves are great. The practice however lacks the empathy and diligence to get your dog looked at when they need it the most. Oh, and if your dog passes in the middle of the yearly membership, they make you pay for the full year, super classy. I'll be on my way once I pay for the full year membership and cancel.

Dr Burke said she needed to go on kidney food as her urine was cloudy. I asked if my dog was dying and she said NO. 2 months later my Dog was peeing n pooping in my house n very thirsty and I called back but Dr Burke has left the practice yet again n they had no appts n closed now on Friday. that told me they could see Brandi in 2 weeks. I immediately called East Hanover Banfield n Dr Favey saw her asap thanks to Katie the receptionist. after bloodwork they told me my Brandi had diabetes not kidney issues. 10 days later I called back as Brandi was not eating and Dr Favey said take her too Eclipse who is wonderful and said Brandi had very bad diabetes and it would takes weeks to get her back to normal if they even could. Brandi passed away that night 4/21/23 at 930pm. Banfield seems to be a revolving door of vets so if you are going to use them - use East Hanover and Rockaway is horrific as the misdiagnosed my dog and not even a card saying I'm sorry but East Hanover did acknowledge her passing with only a one time visit. major issues / take your dog to eclipse ax everyone there was fabulous to Brandi n her last day on earth.
