When I first toured Vitality Living Hudson, I was convinced I had found the right place for my…read moremother. The facility is beautiful, welcoming, and the staff I met seemed caring, professional, and genuinely invested in residents. I left feeling relieved and hopeful during an incredibly stressful time. Unfortunately, everything fell apart after I paid the deposit. Communication became nearly nonexistent. Days would go by without updates, and the assessment I was told would take place never happened. Instead, the assessor, Bernice, apparently contacted my mother's rehabilitation facility and asked the social worker for her cognitive score. According to the social worker, when she provided the information, Bernice's response was simply that my mother "seemed like a better fit for Memory Care." What makes this especially frustrating is that the rehab social worker specifically stated that my mother was relatively independent, was not a flight risk, did not require personal care assistance, and primarily needed medication management. No one from Vitality ever called me to discuss concerns, ask questions, or explain, or even tell me their decision! In fact, I learned that my mother had been declined only when the rehab social worker called to provide my mother's discharge date and asked where she should be discharged. When I explained that I was waiting for Vitality Hudson to complete its assessment, she informed me that Vitality had already declined my mother. Imagine the panic and anxiety of learning, from a third party, that I needed to start the entire assisted living search over again--from 1,500 miles away--with only one week's notice before my mother's discharge. I immediately left a voicemail for Kyle, the sales representative I had been working with. Throughout the process, he seemed kind, responsive, and competent. However, four days have passed since that message, and I still have not heard from anyone at Vitality. What saddens me most is not that Vitality determined they were not the right fit for my mother. That is their decision to make. What is disappointing is the complete lack of communication, follow-through, and basic courtesy during an already difficult family situation. If someone as persistent and organized as I am can fall through the cracks, I worry about what might happen to a vulnerable loved one in their care. Sometimes blessings come in unexpected ways.

We moved our mother to the facility (then, Windsor Woods) in July of 2020 and she remained for 4.5 years. I visited frequently, usually for several hours each visit. I highly valued the facility, itself, and actually witnessed a compete building remodel of the common areas in the summer of 2023. The daily activities, food, and services offered were beyond expectation. The staff, of course, is the key to any successful business, particularly elderly care facilities. Over the past 4.5 years, I met and truly cherished a plethora of amazing people, on staff. Med Tech Annie Lambert was beloved by Mom and truly went above-and-beyond her job description and duties in caring for her. She is priceless and will be sorely missed. Director of Wellness Bernice S. was the consummate professional that was always thorough, thoughtful, responsive, understanding and reliable. Bernice is the cornerstone of the community. Wellness Supervisor Lisa L. was so appreciated for her thoughtfulness, attention-to-detail, responsiveness, and could be relied upon to answer any and all questions. Both Bernice and Lisa maintained continual communication with me regarding Mom's health, medication, general well-being, and more. Staff members that made an enormous positive impact on me in their level of kindness, professionalism, generosity, empathy and personalized attention include Med Tech MaryEllen H., LPN Kai, Activities Director Johnathon T., Driver Kenneth, Cook Kim, Housekeeper Linda, Concierge Lee, Concierge Lynn, Community Business Director Terri C.S., and, of course, Executive Director Lara K. Walking down the halls there were ladies cleaning and it smelled nice. The rooms are huge with vaulted ceilings. The floor is so clean I could eat off of it. I'm just saying. The house itself is a large classic building that seems like it was transported from Tuscany. It's situated on something like 12 acres with lush gardens all around as well as big oak trees. Inside, the building is decorated with murals of an old world feel. Each resident gets her own room decorated with classic decorations as well wall art. Each room also has all modern amenities such as TV with cable. The woman (Elsa) who runs the Hacienda House is from Europe and speaks fluently English, Spanish, and German. She has a very bubbly, happy personality and immediately makes you feel welcome. She gives each of the residents individual attention when it comes to medical needs, food they like, or passing the time together. Regarding the food, it's cooked at the house and it's nutritious and delicious. Definitely not cafeteria food. If you are looking for a place for your elderly relative that is not cold and corporate but run like a welcoming home, this is the place. It only takes up to 4 residents so the attention will be of quality. And just the setting and the food is soothing and inspiring. And by the way the cost is not more than those corporate facilities. It genuinely feels like a home. The care and attention put into the environment, the upkeep, and the atmosphere is immediately noticeable. It is warm, clean, and inviting in a way that put our whole family at ease. What stood out most was how the staff treated our father as an individual, not a patient number. They made the transition so much easier than we ever expected. They were flexible when our family had needs, honest and direct when we had questions, and consistently went above and beyond. That kind of care is rare and it means everything when someone you love is depending on them. Their activities program is very creative-thoughtful and unique, and clearly designed with real intention, accommodating residents of all different abilities and mobility levels. The secure outdoor areas are a wonderful touch. Knowing he could get outside, feel the sunshine, and have a change of scenery safely gave our family peace of mind. Even at the end of his life, the staff treated our loved one with tremendous respect and dignity, and made sure he was comfortable and at peace. That is something our family will never forget. My sister had a ribbon cutting ceremony upon arrival to enter her room and new home. The staff are superb. Everyone I met had a relationship with my sister and gave her the best care and love. I loved the activities they chose to do with the residents. Our family kept up with all the activities because they post on Facebook with wonderful pictures. I have saved them and now have many pictures of memories. Everytime I have been at Braybrook the place smells and is clean. My sister's bedding and clothes were always clean. Braybrook has a wonderful patio the residents can go out onto where there is shade and sun, a butterfly garden, plants and the veggies and herbs the residents helped them plant and watched grow in the grow boxes.
