The restaurant was wonderful and spotless, with friendly staff, and it was kid friendly, too, with a water slide right outside. Customers can enjoy a private beach, an outdoor bar, and live music; the atmosphere was unmatched. The food was incredibly fresh, and with so many options, I settled on a classic lobster roll. It was incredible. There was so much lobster I couldn't finish it at first, but it was so delicious that I managed, and it was one of the best lobster rolls I've ever had. We were a family group of about 25 and decided to take a cab, which was so helpful. Julie was amazing and shared the island's story. I was so glad she recommended this place. If you're reading this review, I hope you decide to go; you can thank me later!

Ballard's Beach Resort Great Vibe and Drinks, but the Food…read moreFalls Short Ballard's offers an unbeatable location with spectacular ocean views, amazing drinks, and a fun, high-energy atmosphere. The service was top-notch, and the presentation of everything was lovely. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the setting, especially given the premium price point. We split the lobster roll, which was heavily dusted with a red spice--likely paprika or a heavy seasoning mix--that completely overwhelmed the lobster and left it with very little natural flavor. Others in our party ordered the fish tacos, which looked great but ultimately lacked taste as well. Overall, it's a wonderful spot to grab a drink, enjoy the live music, and soak in the beach party vibe. However, for a high-end price tag, the food quality just wasn't there during our visit. I'd definitely return for the drinks and atmosphere, but I would eat elsewhere next time.

The tide goes out really far, and leaves plenty of things to explore such as tide pools, and long sand bars that go out again very far. It does cost money to get in, but I think it's free after like 6pm. Only thing I wasn't a fan of is the swimming area. There are big patches of grasses growing right where you'd swim during high tide, and it makes the swimming area very small, and a few big rocks that should be moved and are dangerous. Very clean beach. Haven't seen really any trash or plastic. There are crabs to catch, and shells to find. They even let us drop off for free. It is considered one of the best beaches in Ct.

The sand is dark and super fine. The water was pretty dirty and smelled like a fish market. We later learned the smell was due to the red seaweed. It was also very cold. One thing to watch out for: the seagulls here don't mess around. They'll absolutely go after your food and dig through your stuff if you leave it unattended. When we visited, the carousel and the food stands were closed or out of commission. One nice thing is that you can access the Cliff Walk from here, which is definitely worth checking out. Overall, it's a decent beach but I don't think it's worth driving out of your way to visit. We visited the second Beach the next day. After seeing that, there's no comparison. If we're ever back in Newport, we'll go there instead. It's on a completely different tier. I honestly don't understand all the "best beach in Rhode Island" comments for this place. Use the entrance ways along S. Emerson Ave , there are several of them .
