Not too many options in the five boroughs, but these guys really helped out. Very friendly service, they make sure you practiced a little before you go into the water with their own private pool and they double check to make sure your gear is all set. I dove at the Hampton Springs spot and it was really fun. Though the visibility is a little low underwater, it is a great place to practice and you can still see some stuff below the surface. If you just started scuba diving like me, then definitely come here to refresh yourself or learn firsthand!

He got us set up quickly and pointed out where to head on our big yellow floating bananas! We saw ospreys, turtles, and egrets. We were able to make it to Taylors island and get off the kayaks and walk around. I felt safe in the fairly calm water, and the cloudy weather kept most of the boats away from us, which made for a peaceful trip. Definitely would come back ! Some items to note if you decide to rent: No bathrooms at launch point. If you're hungry grab a snack on the way or in Greenport. You can also bring it with you and eat at Taylors island. Water shoes help if you have them.

There's a clean bathroom toward the back of the lot, complete with a shower. So, after you get all nasty from kayaking in the sun for a couple hours, you can clean up and change into dry clothes. The staff was super. Very polite and helpful. From the dock, you pull past docked boats, and right out into the river. It's a gentle ride. Very little current. And it's a no wake zone for a decent distance. Perfect for beginners. The 2 routes they recommend are 1. Into the bird sanctuary, or 2. Past a bridge (route 105?), round an island, and come back. They recommended doing only one of the 2 due to time. But we were able to do both and come back with plenty of time left of our 2 hour trip. A great introduction to kayaking.

We arrived 1/2 hour late, and they were able to hold our equipment and it made no difference in our reservation... 4 hours began at the time that we stepped out of their office. They have a restroom for the public in the next building over, which was kept clean and stocked. A gentleman helped us into our kayaks and sent us off. The river is beautiful, though because it's quite wide, you need to share it with yachts and boats of various sizes. This creates some waves, and they can be a pain in the ass. In general, people on the water are cool with each other, but there are some (maybe it's a Long Island thing) who feel so superior in their big beautiful boats and treat you like a pipsqueak in their way. As I was all the way to the right side of the river, while returning to the dock, a boat came up behind me. I turned around, looked at the guy driving, and he made a hand motion to say "move over to the left." I thought I was blocking his way into his dock, but he passed me by and kept going straight! Like WTF? That has nothing to do with L.I. Canoe Kayak Rentals, I'm just commenting on the experience in general. To add to the experience, there are some really nice spots with exposed sand (when it's not high tide) that you can hang out along and explore nature. There's a bird sanctuary as well... which wasn't really that impressive, but that may have just been my timing. When we returned to the dock, we pulled in our kayaks and there was no one present to help us out. A couple of ladies pulled their kayaks in, and one needed help getting out, so we provided that help ourselves. I wasn't so impressed about that aspect of this business, though I realize it's probably a lot to ask for them to have someone standing on the dock all day to receive people who are returning. It wasn't a cheap trip, but I'd likely return. I will probably check out some other places first though.

The swimming area has in-season lifeguards. Boating, jetskis, water skiing, rafting, kayaking, and kiteboarding are all okay here. Relatively quiet beach, even when crowded.

Possibly. lol…read more I recently found out that Two Mile is not a wide beach so you see dolphin pods and whales more than most beaches, which makes sense because we were blessed to see a whale and a pod swimming in the distance. It was beautiful. Super clean beach! Let's keep it that way! DO NOT PARK HERE without a beach parking pass, otherwise you will get a $150 ticket and maybe even towed. The cops are constantly here checking for parking stickers, too.

My friend, a yoga goddess, called this place magical. Maidstone Beach is an out of the way bay…read morebeach with its own little cove, secret nooks and crannies, a very long jetty that kids love to climb. There is something perfect about Maidstone, so visually sweet and grand at the same time. I love to take pictures there. During the summer season, you will find it crowded with tourists that have been coming out with their families since their families brought them as children. If they didn't park their SUVs on the beach, we wouldn't hate them so. Why magical? Let me count the ways... There's the perfect swimming conditions for small children because the water is calm, yet the boulders of the extremely long jetty are perfect for the active kids. A local fisherman's utopia, where flounder and snapper abound. A favorite spot for kayaking, boating or stand-up-paddleboarding, it even has a covered pavilion where you can have a bonefide party (reserve with the town first!). It has lots of picnic tables, barbecues and seating with a restroom near by, plus a view of the bay down one of the sandy paths. It's white and loamy, with lots of dunes. Be careful though with dogs in the dunes because the deer bring with them ticks, so check them often. The serene waters are filled with lots of crayfish for kids to keep occupied. If you have a dog, like I do, they love to cool down in the Maidstone tranquil waters. That's where I got my cockapoo to swim the first time, now I can't get her out. It's also a fantastic place to jog, as it is surrounded by an exactly one mile road that loops. But most of all, it's the summer sunsets. My son and I run there around 7 pm every day after dinner to catch the golden blasts that echo on the water's surface. It's a visual masterpiece, but you need to be nearer to the jetty to get the full effect. By then, we're usually the only two on the beach and we both realize just how lucky we are to be so close to heaven.

Absolutely the best managed fishing operation in Montauk…read more Fluke fishing trips, of the three I have been on all included multiple double digit size fluke for the boat with everybody catching.... This last trip - unfortunately I wasn't feeling well - but the fishing was insane with hundreds of keepers caught and multiple double digit fluke on top of monster sea bass... one person had two over ten himself and like a dozen others in the 5-8# class. This boat has a solid reputation and I have never seen a customer unhappy. The mates are super friendly and observant. My co worker , whom frequents this boat (the only boat he fishes here), tells me it is a family run operation. This is evident in the mates they hire as well. If the "doin it live on the Miss Montauk" t-shirt ever becomes available I want a few! Please! Do it live!
