Everyone at CoreysWave is the best! Shot Kristin a text to schedule a few private lessons and within 15 minutes she had emailed me all the information I needed. Scheduling and getting the necessary paperwork done was super simple. I took all of my classes around 7/8 in the morning, which I highly recommend everyone consider! Ditch Plains, and the walk from Shadmoor State Park, was a great way to start the day. The beaches were sparse and very relaxed this time of the day. Sam, my instructor, was a greatest guy! Super friendly and chill but still pushed me with specific critiques each time I caught a wave (or wiped out). Crossed paths with Corey a few times and he was just as nice and supportive. These sessions left me with more useful skills and tips than any of my previous lessons elsewhere...and they were just plain fun! Props to the CoreysWave team. I wanted to do something special for our wedding anniversary. After 13 years it is tough to find something new and fun that we have not done together. I had heard of Corey's Wave and after parusing their site reached to Kristin with some additional questions including if they could fit us in in a couple of days. Kristin was so patient and helpful in answering all my questions on our call and after via email once I signed up online. Our instructor was John (her bro) and Corey is her husband. I loved that it was a family business and you could tell by their passion and commitment to the clients. We did the 90 min lesson on a Thursday and after we felt it was very well priced and we had such a good time. John was able to adapt his teaching style to fit both of our needs as my husband really took to it quickly and I needed a little more coaching. It is a small little company but in the end the memories and what we took away with us was not small or little at all. My husband and I both rode a full wave (he more than me) and it was exhilirating and so much fun. The beach is gorgeous we stayed after and enjoyed lunch and some sun and swan some more. First time surfing!!! Got up on a few waves in a 1.5 hour class. Wife did too, she was stoked. Not too shabby for being in our 30s.

Corey's wave was the best surfing experience I've ever had! I booked it over Memorial Day weekend with my sister and we both had one on one instructors that were so knowledgeable and helped guide us with each wave. We couldn't believe it and got up several times to ride the wave and made us feel like rockstars. We both even rode a waive at the same time all the way into shore, it was so cool. Also, that weekend was cold and rainy but Corey's wave had all the equipment to keep you warm, even when the water is 50 degrees, which I was really worried about since I get cold easily. They had everything and gave us gloves that even gave our hands a wider radius for better paddling strokes but most importantly, kept our fingers nice and warm, along with the booties for our feet. Also, we got to see Corey ride the waves and was so awesome and he even gave us some guidance as well. Such an amazing experience all around and couldn't be anymore impressed with the team from start to finish! Kristin was in constant communication with me throughout the booking process and even makes sure you ride at the best time and days depending on the weather and your skill set. William Finnegan wrote in Barbarian Days, "People who tried surfing at a later age, over 14, had no chance of becoming efficient, and will suffer pain and sorrow." While this is true, it also neglects the fact that old people appreciate incremental progress more than the kiddies. While I am slowly working my way out of 'perpetual novice' state, I celebrate when I make clear progression. Having gotten to various plateaus in my surfing, having started as a (cough, cough) year old, I turn to professionals to get me over each hump. CoreysWave helped out perfectly. While I wasn't expecting to become Kelly Slater with one private lesson, I do expect to learn something and take back some critiques about my surfing and my coach John delivered. Typically, if I take 'a thing or two' out of a lesson to work on, I'd be happy. But after volunteering that my first wave was "kinda like the way I always surf," John diagnosed my current state of surfing and prescribed some adjustments that, literally, took me off of a plateau and looking forward to honing my skills towards climbing to, let's face it, that next plateau! I cannot say enough good things about Corey's Wave. My niece and two nephews (one with special needs) just finished a week of surf lessons with John & Kai. Kristin (Corey's wife) made booking the lessons online a breeze and always followed up with confirmation via text. Went with Corey's Wave based on the previous reviews and the quick response from Kristin. Myself being at almost 40 and trying surfing on again/off again, I wanted to go out there and determine what I needed to do to get it right. Booked 3 days with Patrick who's a Montauk local and could not have asked for a better instructor. He was patient but also constantly pushing me to get better. At the end of the first day I was catching every wave and the next two days were spent on more advanced technique. After many tries and not very good results with other instructors I was introduced to Corey. He is great. He talks to you, explain you what we are doing, when, how and why. So, you understand what's going on. You can see yourself getting better quicker and having so much fun. He tells you a joke here and there and if you are a little scare he just have the right words for you so you are not anymore... He is great with kids too! Coreys Wave's staff were very friendly and accommodating - easy to do business with. I've tried to learn to surf before to no avail and I took a lesson with Corey from Corey's Wave over the weekend and because of his masterful instructions and caring nature I was able to stand up and catch 3 waves! It was amazing and I'll definitely be taking more lessons so I can improve even more! On a side note I paid attention to the other instructors as well and they seemed pretty incredible. I set up my appointment and got my wetsuit and gear from Kristin who made me feel really relaxed and confident to give surfing another shot and I'm so glad I did!! read more

1st surf lesson at age 52! My instructor Kevin was high energy, freindly and stressed safety during our sand session and gave me some great tips throughout the lesson. I felt very comfortable entering the water. with him. There were mutliple Corey's Wave instructors in the water and I have to say that the communication between them was fantastic and definitely helped me. After a few pathetic wipe-outs I caught some waves and WOW! what a feeling. To ride a wave in such a beautiful location was awesome. I had a great experience and I'm stoked for the next lesson. Met Corey on the beach after my lesson. Really a great guy with a very professional staff. NatGeo rated Corey's Wave as one of the Top Surfing Schools. If you stay at Montauk Manor they have beach passes available so you can park your POV right at Ditch Plains. They also have a shuttle that will take you there and back. read more

I was pretty disappointed in the CoreysWave Kids Surf Discovery experience. My kids have taken surf lessons a few times before at other places, and always got to the point of standing numerous times and generally had a good time. This time, there were five kids with one instructor and one instructor's assistant, and almost none of the kids ever stood up in the 1.5 lesson (I was watching the entire time, hoping to take some pictures); in fact, it seemed like they were out too far, beyond where most of the waves were breaking, just sitting on the boards. My son (10) managed to stand once but my daughter (12) did not, and also came back very frustrated after the lesson saying that she felt like her instructor forced her onto waves too big for her and she just kept getting beat up by losing control of the board. These lessons were also expensive -- $175 per kid, which made me feel like an idiot when a guy told me that at Paddle Diva 1) $175 is the *private* lesson price, 2) a group kids lesson would have been $90 at Paddle Diva, and 3) they would have never sent out five kids with one instructor and one instructor's assistant. So overall, it felt like a waste. Actually worse than a waste because I doubt my daughter will want to surf again. The one thing I did appreciate was that when my son did manage to stand that one time and as a result became separated from the group, the assistant was pretty good at surfing to him and bringing him to the group. That is why I'm giving two stars instead of one. read more

My girlfriend and I recently tried surfing for the first time with Coreyswave, and had an awesome time! I had never touched a surf board before that day, and 30 minutes into the lesson, I was riding my first wave. John and Kristen were great teachers. They were immediately very fun and friendly, made for a really fun and comfortable lesson. They've really got a great lesson plan which gave us a pretty good idea of what we needed to do once we got in the water and on the board. They're paddling and riding alongside of you throughout the entire lesson, keeping you motivated and giving you instruction which helped both my girlfriend and I to ride several waves on day-one. Several other Coreyswave instructors were out surfing and giving lessons, and they were quick to cheer you on, help you out, or give you some pointers. We really had a great time and accomplished a lot more then I thought we would in one lesson. It's easy to understand why Coreyswave is one of the most recognized and top-rated surf schools in the country. Easy reservations, great communication and coordination, outstanding instructors - a 100% authentic surf experience. Hoping to be back for more next year. read more
