Parking anywhere nearby is illegal. Parked for 15 minutes and got a $150 ticket. Food options nearby are scarce and very underwhelming.

Cool hangout beach. Food truck and lots of surfers. Police presence so make sure you have a beach sticker or risk a $150 fine.

Labor Day Weekend 2021 - Everything is open!…read more I came on a whim of intuition, with tent in tow, that my 3.5 he drive from the city might, just might result in a walk-up campsite for one or two nights. At first I was turned away because I was too late- all the available sites had been given away before 3pm. However, I stayed curious and asked some extra questions about how the walk-up system worked in the event I would try again the next day. To my luck, the park attendant said to come back in a couple hours because I might get lucky with some later call backs... and 4:30pm lucky I got!!! I did have a backup plan- that I would head to Wildwood on North Fork which had plenty of availability if I couldn't get a spot at Hither Hills. Everything was open- even the kitchen making egg sandwiches and salads in the General Store. Lifeguards on the beach. Beach stand selling alcohol. Showers and restrooms all open, and very clean. I stayed in the A section of the campground, which has the most sand on the lots, and backs up to the dunes, which was exactly what I wanted/needed. The campsites don't have electric, but there is a water spout in the middle of some sections. The bathrooms are never too far and the showers are clean. There are some electrical outlets in the bathroom for things like hair dryer and electric razor, or for me, charging a battery pack while I shower, brush my teeth, and do my hair. The beach on this weekend was pristine and perfect. Despite hurricane Ira moving through only days earlier, after the storm, the beach at Hither Hills had barely any debris or carnage and just smooth waves and perfect weather for a long holiday weekend. I didn't bother bringing a cooler or camp stove because I was just one person and there are plenty of restaurants and bars and cafes around to visit by car during the day- and that's part of the fun for me (and every yelper?!?)- exploring local food options! I also really enjoyed visiting the East Hampton library to pick up some free books, get WiFi connected, and recharge phone battery during the day. You definitely won't find a cheaper stay in the Hamptons or Montauk unless you're invited to someone's beach house!!

Lots of room in this parking lot as long as you have permission. The restrooms are clean and just fine. The concession stand has not been open when I have come here, but at least there is a comfort station that is always open!

For families visiting the beaches in Amagansett, I'd say it's preferable to Indian Mills which attracts a younger, more party-minded set. And for the twenty and thirty somethings, be aware that there's a disproportionate number of children under 10 years old roaming this beach, peeing in the ocean and generally underfoot. Parking is permit-only during the weekend, though on weekdays non-permit holders can pay a fee. The food stand offers an array of beach foods like fried clams, lobster rolls and chicken tenders in addition to the healthier chicken caesar wraps and salads. Our local host at a nearby hotel recommended the Beach Burger and I was definitely not disappointed - it's almost Shake Shack worthy! The sodas are also notably humongous - though with the summer sun beating down it's definitely not a gamble to super size to a large. Surfs up!

It was about $700+ after fees, tip, etc, and it was totally worth it. Our captain, Mason, was super cool. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and we felt comfortable being really annoying and weird in front of him. The sail itself was just a short ride in the bay, where we anchored close to a beach. We loved dancing on the boat, trying out the SUP board (included), basically chugging our BYOB drinks (no hard liquor allowed on board), taking pics lounging in the net, gawking at the yachts, and pretending the pool noodles were seahorses that we were riding. Bachelorette stuff! I think we had the Mon Mini boat, probably the smallest option. Included: one SUP board, bluetooth speaker, cooler, two pool noodles, the captain.

They provided two Yeti coolers and a Bluetooth speaker for music which was nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They helped take pictures for our group and the sailing was very smooth. I would definitely book again, probably earlier in the summer for the 3 hour cruise to be able to do the paddleboarding.

Maidstone Beach is an out of the way bay…read morebeach with its own little cove, secret nooks and crannies, a very long jetty that kids love to climb. There is something perfect about Maidstone, so visually sweet and grand at the same time. I love to take pictures there. During the summer season, you will find it crowded with tourists that have been coming out with their families since their families brought them as children. If they didn't park their SUVs on the beach, we wouldn't hate them so. Why magical? Let me count the ways... There's the perfect swimming conditions for small children because the water is calm, yet the boulders of the extremely long jetty are perfect for the active kids. A local fisherman's utopia, where flounder and snapper abound. A favorite spot for kayaking, boating or stand-up-paddleboarding, it even has a covered pavilion where you can have a bonefide party (reserve with the town first!). It has lots of picnic tables, barbecues and seating with a restroom near by, plus a view of the bay down one of the sandy paths. It's white and loamy, with lots of dunes. Be careful though with dogs in the dunes because the deer bring with them ticks, so check them often. The serene waters are filled with lots of crayfish for kids to keep occupied. If you have a dog, like I do, they love to cool down in the Maidstone tranquil waters. That's where I got my cockapoo to swim the first time, now I can't get her out. It's also a fantastic place to jog, as it is surrounded by an exactly one mile road that loops. But most of all, it's the summer sunsets. My son and I run there around 7 pm every day after dinner to catch the golden blasts that echo on the water's surface. It's a visual masterpiece, but you need to be nearer to the jetty to get the full effect. By then, we're usually the only two on the beach and we both realize just how lucky we are to be so close to heaven.
