The good reviews I have read about the park are truly right. It was entirely different if you experienced it, there is more to it. This state park campground is the flagship of all NY state camping grounds, the only beach front in downstate and a family friendly one. We'd been to different campgrounds but this is the BEST i'd been to. FIrst of all, there are no BEARS to worry about, no need to keep in the vehicle during nights food left-overs or any pantry things ( provided it is not raining!). The beach is few feet away- we were located in a corner spot, third row from ocean side of the mid-east part of the park. The lot before us was vacant in which gave us a good view of the pathway to the beach. When i was making the reservation, our site was one of the four sites left for the reason it was facing the shower room and garbage disposal area. Oh well, i found the site convenient after all. Can you imagine charging your phone in the shower/comfort house, left it there and come back every 5-10 minutes easily? Definitely, it's a plus during cooler nights too., has very convenient access. The house overhead light made me feel secured and safe. It was invigorating to see stars during the quiet nights. The sound of the ocean and its breeze during sleep time were an experience you wont forget on this trip. A security patrol was roaming around even late wee hours by the way. Since it is an open ground campground, make sure you bring with you a canopy to cover the picnic table provided or use it over your tent or bring an extra tarp as a sun shade. Don't be intimated with the majority RV's campers.... there are plenty of tent campers too. Luckily, we were in the corner and kinda sort had our own privacy space. Bathrooms are clean and the showers water temperature is fine. There is a general store that sells mostly of the basic needs, even serves cooked meals and cold drinks, has plentiful snacks too ....pricey though. Town is not far .... you could drive to get any missed items from what you have packed from home. Making a reservation takes a lot of planning as it is easily filled up , it has 9 months window prior the planned date. Be on their site as early as 8 am if you need to get a spot on particular date/s. It is a on First come , first serve service. It is a required "week" reservation during mid-June till mid fall. Other than that, you could reserve by number of days. The state park is open to public too for those who are not camping..... 8-4 pm, $10 vehicle fee and has access to the beach, picnic ground and the playground. It has a good location, off by the Old Montauk Highway. Proximity to tourist attractions is close. It is a good and reasonable place for any get-away and vacation. Highly recommended. What an amazing memorial weekend camping experience we had. Definitely coming back.

Positively gorgeous. I have never been out this far on Long Island before, thinking it was all hype, but I am now a believer. Check out my pictures. They have camping here... and tetherball-- which should be outlawed! It's more dangerous than it looks in Napoleon Dynamite!

Just returned today from a blissful weekend camping here. The site: each site has a concrete slab with a picnic table on it. I highly recommend purchasing a canopy to put over it. (I got one at Walmart). The shade helps a lot on a hot day. Plus, you can hang your beach towels/ towels on it to dry. Our site was against the hill behind us which was nice because you get more privacy. Just have to watch out for ticks. Bathrooms are clean and the showers were fine. The best part was listening to the waves come in while you fall asleep at night. Plus, when the moon is not out, it's like a planetarium. Super awesome star watching. You will need to bring a grill if you plan on using a tent and not an R.V. We explored the West loop too. Just to compare everything, very kid friendly. There is a store to get coal, ice and other stuff, but super expensive. We went out to dinner Saturday night in Montauk. We took our cooler with us and just stopped at a gas station to fill it up with more ice. Definitely check this place out.

Great spot for beach camping! Beautiful beach and campsites are clean and well cared for. Shower facilities could use an update but are very clean. Short drive to town with lots of shops and restaurants. The general store is stocked with ice and other necessities-milk, butter, eggs etc. I would have given five stars but the road is very close to campsites and can be noisy at night. Otherwise an awesome experience overall!
