I was in town Easter weekend (Saturday, March 30, 2013) visiting family and I needed to get my…read moreCrossfit on like I normally do in San Diego on Saturdays so I searched for a Crossfit in the area and bingo I found Crossfit High Definition on yelp! The first two reviews were right on. I called up the gym at 8am and spoke to Alison who told me there was a 9am and a 10:30am class that I could drop into. This week everyone was working on qualifying for the Crossfit Games so that seemed a little intimidating, but having been to quite a few classes I decided to go in. The 10:30am Mobility class was a yoga, stretching & joints type of class. Everyone was really open, friendly and positive. We went around and said names because 2 or 3 of us were new faces and then we went over warm ups and breaking down how to do the qualifers. It was very easy for me to jump right in and feel at home, I was able to ask everyone all my Q's about the Games, qualifying, the foundation classes and how they got involved with Crossfit. I even learned some new lingo when they asked me what "box" did I normally go to. What I was really interested to see and inspired by, was how diverse the class was. There were so many different age groups at the qualifer. High school to retirement. There so many different fitness levels as well. Some people were modifying the WOD to fit their beginner/limited ability and some people were pushing themselves past their PRs, some people were seeing where they ranked in the Crossfit Games qualifer just for fun and some were really pushing themselves to possibly go to regionals. Really a great group of people and coaches who definitely fit the Crossfit culture. They tell you to relax and push you based on your individual needs. And by the time I was done I was getting high fives and words of encouragement like everyone else even though I was just a drop in. They didn't let me leave feeling like just a drop it. So I WILL BE BACK. I'm glad I came in and High Def will definitely be my Crossfit home away from home. Highlights: They have a kids playroom so mom and dad can workout, watch your things because the kids may get into them lol (one little girl was looking for a cough drop in everyone's bag), plenty of parking, it's located on Poplar Street near 395 and Main. You can see the storefront of Unit 6 right from the street Bldg A or B, plenty of parking, there's no check in desk so just walk in and ask for a coach or call ahead if it's your first time.

Everyone is VERY friendly and the workouts were tough! It's probably because of my city-boy lungs that couldn't handle the thin air. Box was very clean and had plenty of equipment. This is a cozy, small studio in the Village of Apple Valley, with a genuinely welcoming community of wonderful people meet. This is NOT a crowded room full of sweaty people on yoga mats packed in like sardines. Space and peace are the standard here. The studio is exceptionally clean and thoughtfully decorated. I am not a spin girl, so I can't speak to that, but a lot of people love them here. I've taken yoga and Pilates classes here a few times a week for over two years now. I'm a fairly seasoned yogi and find Adriana's flow yoga and yoga-strength classes both creative and challenging, and her cuing is clear and easy to follow. She is a very highly trained instructor, and it shows. She plays great music and her classes are fun! I especially love her Saturday morning yoga-sculpt class that's the best of yoga and the benefits of strength training with hand weights. I'm always sore the next 2 days in all the best of ways. In the summer, there are often guided cold plunges after yoga class, and Adriana guides you through the whole process. It's incredibly empowering!! Wednesday night, Dusty leads a really lovely stretch and mobility class that's the perfect mid week reset for body and mind- that anyone can feel like a pro at on day one. Rosy's floor Pilates classes are so much fun! She's a little ray of sunshine with energy that makes even the worst day better. There's usually a little treat of a tasty smoothie that Ellen makes as a delicious reward at the end of class. Rosy is also trained in physical therapy, so her instruction and posing is exceptionally clear and helpful to ensure you are doing it properly for the best results. Ellen, the owner and one of the spin instructors is so incredibly warm and hospitable, and she makes everyone feel like old friends from the first visit. She's proud of her little studio and pours her heart into making it a place you look forward to coming to. Aside from the regular classes, there are workshops from time to time in all kinds of interesting things like cold plunging, sound baths, meditation, dance classes, yoga under the stars, and even artisan markets. If you're looking for a fitness home, where you'll be encouraged and challenged with kindness, but don't enjoy a competitive, gym-like setting, Relentless Spin & Yoga might be the perfect fit. We started off boxing with Coach Luis and my son learned not just self defense and the art of boxing but he also learned respect and discipline. After training in the boxing classes for 15 months we finally transitioned into the Jiu Jitsu program with Joe Stevenson and Coach Mike. My daughter finally got involved too at the gym and now both my kids do Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. This gym is really great and there is a sense of community and family here. The kids are all respectful to each other and the coaches really emphasize this. The coaches and staff are all amazing and there is a wide variety of classes not just for kids but for adults too. I did the 6 week challenge to help get motivated to taking better care of myself. I felt like I had lost myself along the way somewhere over the years. I'm a foster parent with a full time job and during week 2 of the 6 week challenge we were placed with a special needs infant. It was difficult to say the least. I only joined this gym 2 weeks ago, but so far I'm in love with it. Right now it is the smaller of…read moretwo locations, but there are still plenty of machines for everyone. Every time I walk in the guy running the desk recognizes me. There are a decent amount of people who attend this gym, so that means a lot to me that he remembers my fiancee, myself, my brother-in-law, and many other people. It really feels like I'm part of some family. The facility is always clean, and smells pretty good for a gym. There are TV's on some of the tredmills, with satelitte hooked up to them. This is a HUGE plus as far as I'm concerned. They are quick to fix equipment, and are always more than willing to tell you about a piece of equipment you just don't understand.
