Donovan/ Donny was our barber and he managed to fix her hair and confidence that day. He was really sweet and made great conversation, he also gave us recommendations on how to style her hair type. I called one day late in the afternoon because I needed a haircut last minute and was calling around trying to see who could squeeze me in and they were able to accommodate me. I didn't know who I would end up getting I just said whoever can take me and I ended up getting my hair cut by Brenda and she was awesome! Well, first of all before I talk about my haircut I want too say that the shop was very clean and inviting, it has a cool urban vibe to it and parking was super easy. I think there's a parking lot in the back, but the building is on a corner right next to a small residential side street that had plenty of parking so I just parked there. Anyway, on to the haircut. I wanted to keep the length of hair on top similar to how my hair was already styled except cleaned up, and have a fade on the sides and back but not too short. Brenda delivered exactly what I wanted. When I describe the haircut here it sounds really simple, but to actually execute it how I wanted it is no simple feat, I've been to a lot of different barbers. I posted a pic on here so you can see. Also, Brenda was really nice and fun to talk to, I can't speak on the other barbers but I highly recommend Brenda. Donny is the homie. As a female with short hair (granted my profile photo says otherwise) I've always wanted to get something done at a barbershop but have always been hella intimidated. I feel like he's not professional barbers and just using this job to make easy money. I feel like the way he uses scissors and his skills are not like the barbers I've cut before. I know I only spent $35 so I can't ask the excellent results but what professional barber would only cut the right side of my hair and forget to cut the left side. Walked in today (Sunday) and was asked if I had an appointment in which I answered no. One barber asked the barber next to him if he could take me and he said no. Then the first barber said "sorry, we're fully booked today." I should have known better and called, but why have "walk-ins welcomed" on Yelp if it's appointments only? It's a waste of my time and potential clients time driving over there just to get told "we're fully booked". I will not try to come back and I wouldn't recommend this place based on customer service. read more

Ever since I moved to this part of the 626, I've been in search for a place to get my haircuts. I'm very picky with my barbers because I've had my hair chopped off completely before and have had the worst fades I never thought could happen. Coming into Elevate, you're instantly greeted and asked whether you've made an appointment or not. If you're a walk-in, wait times shouldn't be too bad. There's usually more than two barbers cutting hair and the flow goes by quick. The cuts itself are pretty good. I personally go to Uly for my haircuts. He does a great job with fades and line ups. If you're a combover type of guy, go to him. After he's done cutting, he'll ask you if you want to make any last minute changes. He'll be more than happy to do it for you. He's a chill guy Also, it seems like most of the one star reviews are from customers who are complaining about the costs. Do realize that getting your haircut takes time. If you make an appointment it's $25. Walk-ins are $20. REMEMBER to TIP your barbers for their craftsmanship. read more

Got my hair cut here earlier today with Steve-o after booking an appointment and it was a great experience! He's really chill and knows what he's doing. I showed him a video I saw on IG and he was able to replicate the haircut I wanted perfectly while making tweaks for my head/face shape. I would definitely recommend him if you live in the area and are looking for a go-to barber for the regular cleanup. The process was easy and there's lots of parking. Unfortunately all the other reviews are true. All employees spend too much time talking to each other. Wouldn't be THAT big of an issue if they didn't use profanity, make fun of certain groups, etc. I usually have my kid with me and it makes me super uncomfortable. Not only that but the guy I've had the couple times I went would constantly text or check his phone. What should only be at most a 25 min experience turns into 40. I wanted to like this place, it's so close to home and the vibe seemed good at first, but I always left frustrated. Hoping they finally take all this feedback seriously. read more

Love this barber shop and Steve-O for my son who just happens to be very picky about who cuts his hair and the style he chooses. The shop is in a very nice neighborhood of Alhambra and on Main Street with plenty of parking in the front and back. Their huuuuuuuge lounge chairs and many big screen TV's that makes waiting easier... Steve takes his time (about 45-50 min) and really works on the details. Considering how meticulous my son is, it's a good thing. My son says, "I like him. He's really cool". Steve keeps up with the small talk taking the time to get to know my son, too. This review is for Rebecca who jacked up my hair before I had to attend a wedding. One of the worst haircuts of my 33 year life. Girl shows up 15min late to the appointment and doesn't apologize. According to her coworker she was at lunch. Should've been the first sign to run away. Next I tell her what I'm looking for and as she's cutting my hair I realize at no point did I get to face the mirror to check out our progress. I finally figured out why... she was watching tv! Netflix was playing and she had me facing the tv as well the entire time cause she pretty much wanted to watch the show playing. Near the very end of my cut I finally get to see my hair and already knew she messed it up. She had cut a lot of hair off near the swirl on my head that I had been growing out for months stay down so now that section just sticks up like a flag. I ask her to fix it and a long awkward back and forth where she gives me two options "Chop it down so no one notices as much or leave it" and comb my hair to the side like Adolf ( it was supposed to be pompadour but I think she thought I was a poodle) Just avoid this girl at all costs. Not a bad barbershop but the barbers talk to each other way too much. They were making racist jokes, making fun of vegans, etc. While I know these types of jokes are acceptable among friends, you need to be more sensitive about doing them in public. 02-05-18 - you definitely lost a customer today for good. Came in for a haircut guy said you're next. Cool. Another guy walks in and they seat him. 45 mins later still waiting another guy comes in, the barbers like yeah I can see you next I'm almost done here. Wtf? Am I invisible? Skipped twice. And the second guy didn't even have an appointment either! Largest Negative is they charge an "Afterhours fee" after 6:30PM even though they close at 7PM. I was told by one of the barbers over the phone that they charge an afterhours fee and it varies between barbers, starting at $30 on top of your haircut, because (in their words) "It's not fair for the barbers to stay late and cut your hair." If its not fair then why close at 7? This is the first time I have ever heard of an "afterhours fee" from any barber. Ever since my previous barber stopped opening on Mondays, I had to search for a new barber. Found this place through yelp, and decided to give it a try. The longest wait time I was given was 1.5 hours when there was only 3 people in the waiting room. Shortest time was being seen instantly. What I don't get is there will sometimes be 3-4 barbers present but one is just sitting around on the phone and will tell you to sit down and wait for 10+ minutes, but will take the next customer that walks in. The haircut itself is great. The fade is always cut to perfection, and their judgment of how long the hair should be kept is great. Every time they'll ask me for my opinion on how long I want it but I end up leaving it to their judgment. So far it has not disappointed me, and I have constantly been given compliments on where I get my haircut and I'll refer them to Elevate. There is a parking lot in the back if you want to avoid the busy Main Street, and has a back door entrance. There are multiple TV's around playing usually really interesting movies to pass the time. read more

This review belongs to this barbershop as the owner, Josh owns another in Alhambra named Popular Demand Barbershop. I was looking for a good barber who could line me up and trim/shape my facial hair. After focused research on Yelp, I decided on Popular Demand and scheduled an online appointment at 6pm with Erika. I arrived 15 mins early and waited for her. My luck that the owner, Josh came in to check in on his business and was advised Erika left home early due to the SoCal fires. Family first so I totally understand. Josh stepped up and offered to take care of me at his other shop, Elevate if I was willing to make the drive. I took him up on his offer and made the drive. He promptly met me there, sat in his chair, and he really delivered on his promise and hooked me up with a great lineup and beard trim! 4 stars for the work but an extra star for Josh showing he's customer centric and willing to go above and beyond.
