Walked in for the $25 walk in deal and called the day before to confirm. I waited more than an hour and twenty minutes with my 4 year old. And the barber finishing up didn't tell us he was leaving. He was cussing up a storm while my son was there not even being considerate. So there was one worker. The lady that finally ended up cutting my son's hair took her time on the client before us (about an hour). There was no one ahead of me either. We were done in 20 mins. But I've never waited this long for a hair cut. Like it's a barber shop not a beauty salon. She was nice and all but the wait time and poor communication is not cool...unorganized, long wait times, and understaffed. Skipping this place.. read more

There is an AMAZING barber / hair stylist named Ali who works here at Mj's barber lounge. She gives AWESOME haircuts and she constantly puts others first to accommodate as many clients as she can (she even babysat my kitten once!) Ali is genuinely one of the nicest people I've ever met. I genuinely look forward to getting my haircut done by Ali so we can catch up, Mj's is so lucky to have her!!!! :) read more

My husband had been taking my son to Allie for about 3 years now. He's autistic so haircuts aren't always easy but she's always been so patient with him . Today we requested a faux hawk and I was afraid he wouldn't allow himself but she did it again! I'm obsessed ! Thank you Allie ! read more

This was the first time I took my son here. It's a very male barber shop type feel. It was clean and nice and cold from the air conditioning. My son wanted a fade burst baseball haircut and he was seated right away to get that done. I think the owner said the barber doing his hair was the best guy in Alhambra! I waited and watched the office reruns they had there, that was fun. They also have a ATM machine. My boy was very happy with the haircut. He even wanted an initial and a cross put into his hair, the barber did it with a razor, it turned out really good. read more

Ali. That's the review. She needs a 6th star. She exceeds expectations. I had the same barber for 20 years before I met Ali. My first barber is like a brother to me, and I couldn't imagine anyone else cutting my hair. When I moved to California, finding that same level of detail and care was almost impossible for the longest, until I discovered Ali at MJ's Barbershop in Alhambra. I walked in, and she was the only one there cutting a client. Hesitant, I waited, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made all year. Ali is exceptional. With over 15 years of experience, she has a vision for detail like no other. It's more than a haircut; it's an experience. From the precision in my beard grooming, the sharpness in the line up, to the relaxing temple massages, every detail is perfect and necessary every time once you've had it. The way this woman gives me my confidence back should be studied. I can't thank her enough. Over the last 6 to 7 months, she's not just become my barber, she's become a true friend of mine. I check in on her whenever I can, and if Ali can't cut my hair, I'll just have to rough it until she can. read more

I went in not that long ago to get my 1 year old his first haircut. Ally was nothing but patient and attentive especially when he started crying, she even put Mrs. Rachel on the big tv and offered candy. Even tho he was moving she still managed to touch up his sides and give a really good haircut. Thank you ally! read more

Been coming here for a minute. Barbers are friendly. Go see Miguel, he's my guy. The store is well decorated with sports and classic memorabilia. They sometimes play loud music or sometimes there is a movie on. If you have kids sometimes the barbers can use foul language, but that could just be because I'm the only one in at times, I'm sure if there were kids or ladies they'd adjust to the circumstances. All n all a good experience, walkins are taken, but you can also make an appointment. So far this is the quickest shop in Alhambra I've found. The least busiest days are Tuesday and Wednesday if you want to be in and out like me. Enjoy! IG : kaliking806 #ViBN read more

I brought my 13yo son here and we will never be back. Barbers cussing up a storm, every convo was an F bomb. There were little kids present too! It was so unprofessional. Missed appt, so we had to wait. I was so uncomfortable and so was my son. We don't use profanity at home. But he REALLY needed a cut. Cut wasn't even that good. Previous child customer was $25 and he charged us $30! I didn't want to argue bc I just wanted to get out of there. We won't be back. read more

Long waits, missed appointments, gangster rap, no coordinated effort to stay on schedule and nothing but F-bombs from the staff. All conversations by barbers are XXX. Think twice before bringing your little ones for a cut. The owner is present and seems not to care. Mayhem is the order of the day. Once seated, you will like your cut, but the juice may not be worth the squeeze. Insist on Mike or Irma or.....walk around with a f'd up cut and amuse your friends. read more

I've gone in to MJ's several times to somewhat supervise my boyfriend's beard grooming. There have been a couple not so great experiences in the past. However, once he started seeing Hugo, it's been smooth sailing. Hugo is attentive, listens to what we (I) envision as the final result, and delivers. Based on our experiences with Hugo, I knew we could trust him with my son's hair. My 8 year old has been growing his hair out as a result of a bad cut a couple months ago (poor guy has been wearing beanies every single day to cover it up) and was more than ready for a repair. We walked in without an appointment and were relieved to see that Hugo was working/available. I really appreciated the attention and patience Hugo displayed. He took the time to find a conversation topic my son would relate to (Fortnite) and didn't show any irritation with my son's constant wiggling. So glad we came in; very happy with the cut. MJ's is conveniently located around the corner from our place, fast and friendly service, decent pricing, and quality cuts. read more

Huge shout out to Joe!! My son is 2 years old and has not let anyone touch his hair so I was pretty desperate to find a barber shop that did well with kids and this is definitely the one. Every barber in there was talking to my son as he was getting his cut and he actually sat through the whole thing I appreciate every single one of you guys in there today. Thanks so much! This will definitely be where I take my son for hits cuts now Great vibe, fantastic staff and the music was on point too. Definitely worth the stop read more

If you're looking for a good WALK-IN barber shop, do NOT come here. The vibe is great, there are some barbers there that show proper artistry. However, they are always booked with their clients (which is understandable.) I'm not referring to the barber shop as a whole. I am simply referring to WALK-IN haircuts. Sometimes, a person just needs a haircut in a hurry for a special occasion or whatever reason. That's why walk-ins exist. The issue I have with this barber shop is that they had some one extremely inexperienced to cut my hair. When I say inexperienced, i am referring to: 1. Asking for a mid fade and getting a high fade 2. Asking for length on the top, receiving an 8 guard against the grain. 3. The cut taking 2 hours 4. The shop owner had to come in and fix the destruction to the best of his ability. But as the saying goes, you can't polish a turd. My hair was long and workable for the cut I desired. I even showed the guy a picture to what I was referring to, and got nothing close to what I asked for. Why would they let a "barber" cut someone's hair and charge them 35 dollars for a sloppy job. If I wanted to get messed up, I would much rather have gone to a barber school that charges less and gives lesser quality. It's understandable, they're learning. In this case, they're charging me for someone with poor skill level at med-high skill level prices. Overall, they really destroyed my hair. I have to wait months for my hair to grow back now. Did I mention this was my second time coming? The last time they kind of gave me what I wanted. It wasn't a bad cut, not amazing either. I had to go home and trim some edges myself. Typically, I'm not one to write yelp reviews. I honestly never want to waste the time to do so or really care that much. However his time, I couldn't just let this be. So as stated, if you are looking for a barber shop to walk-in and get a quality cut. Do NOT come here. Unless you're going to schedule a cut with one of the experienced barbers, DO NOT waste your time and hard earned money. Worst 35 dollars I've spent in a while. Below is what I showed him as a reference, compared to what I actually got. read more

Ali did my hair it is my second visit but the first time she dyes my hair . Most of the time I get my hair done people pull my hair really bad , Ali is really gentle with me and if you have really long hair like me you know how much it hurts! Her detail and care are really important to me , I would definitely recommend her book with Ali (760) 644-4048 Hair color and style 180 ( not a bad deal at all for long hair ) read more

After getting turned down as a walk-in at another barber shop for being "fully booked" I called this place to see if they accept walk-ins. Some guy answered the phone and I asked "hello, are you accepting walk-ins today?" And without even answering my question he said "uh.. can you call back later cuz there's a line right now." And hung up. I didn't get a name, have a good day or any type of simple customer service. What kind of customer service is this?? Absolutely ridiculous. Apparently they must not care about customers at this barber shop. Will not recommend to anyone. read more

This is my go-to spot for a hair cut. Although I sport a clean shaven head, I still drop in here at least once a month to have my beard trimmed and cleaned up. I'm particular about who I trust with my beard. For me, Hugo has the only chair I'll sit in. He took the time to listen to how I preferred my beard to be styled and he hasn't let me down yet. The entire shop is well equipped to serve any of your barbershop needs. But as anyone who's a regular at any barbershop knows, once you get that one barber who understands you...you stay loyal. So I suggest you drop in and take a seat. Hang out and listen to music. Watch some sports on the TVs or join in on whatever conversation is taking place. Give any of the barbers a chance to cut your hair and see who you make your favorite. read more

Randomly went here for a walk-in since my usual barber was unavailable. Said they could take me and called some one from the back out front. He started cutting my hair and I instantly realized he was very inexperienced and didn't quite have his technique down. By the time it came time to blend he had to call another barber over to help clean it up. Never was faced towards a mirror, so had no idea what was going on with my hair and had no input. Turns out the guy was an apprentice and had been working there a month. Had I known some random guy who has been hanging out in a barbershop for a month was cutting my hair, I would have passed. I was still charged the full amount of $30, which is a joke, DON'T HAVE YOUR BOY PRACTICE ON THE PUBLIC WITHOUT DISCLOSING IT. I'm sure, there wasn't even a barbers license. Avoid this "hip hop barber shop" at all costs. Nothing but junior high fades. read more

Great haircuts and atmosphere here... Hugo is my go-to and always hooks up a fresh cut. But honestly, any member of the crew here will hook you up. Been coming here a little over 6 months and I think I've found my barber for the foreseeable future. I'm a little picky about my haircut but Hugo and the crew here take carw of you. My son, a high school student with long curly hair, is even picker than I am. He hot hooked by Angel and was very happy with his haircut as well. The vibe is chill, fun and lighthearted, and there's always a variety of good music playing. They also have a couple of TVs so you won't miss the game or you can catch a few scenes of a good movie/show while you get your haircut. They take walk-ins but I don't mind paying a little extra for the convenience of scheduling my appointment. read more

Called in to schedule an appointment for a hair cut and they answered right away. When I walked in, everyone was welcoming and Mike took me in even though I showed up a few minutes early. Mike asked what exactly I was looking to get and asked a few questions like if I wanted a line up, and how high exactly I wanted the fade... 45 minutes later he finished up and boy am I a happy customer! Clean fades, sharp line up. What more can one ask for from a barber. 25$ well spent.... P.S Please tip your barbers! I gave him an even 30. Leaving happy and will be returning again. read more

Went here after reopening from Covid, and was glad this local business was back. They raised the prices of their regular haircuts to $30, which is on the pricey end but I understand given the difficulty reopening. The cut was high quality and nice, but the big issue was that all the staff were not wearing masks. Furthermore, they were talking to each other loudly across the room in front of the client's faces (who were also not wearing masks). It was just uncomfortable and felt unsafe, especially given how many strangers they interact with a day like that. The staff really needs to be wearing masks after reopening. read more
