We golfed at Elephant Rock on August 13th. We loved the layout and challenging holes! The staff was outstanding answering any questions. The cart path is rock and dust, lots of dust. If you're in the lead cart no problem but if you're following you're going to be breathing dust. The course has some very fun/challenging holes. The greens and fairways were in pretty good shape too. read more

Course conditions were excellent.. greens , fairways and tee boxes in prime condition in august 24. Played on a Tuesday afternoon. Not crowded. Saw beverage cart 4x . 18 holes in 3.5 hours so good pace. Golf carts are gas models. No windshields but otherwise functioned well. Golf shop even offered a rain check if rain came and was heavy- we only had a few light brief sprinkles. They had a full service golf shop and bar/cafe. read more

Beautiful views decent fairways, they don't allow outside alcohol. Only saw the beer cart 1 time and I was golfing for over 4 hours so that was a bummer. Surrounded by beautiful pines. read more

Elephant Rocks is a well kept up, and very fun course to play. With the amazing scenery, and tree lined fairways. This course keeps you on your toes. The back nine is more wide open, and ends with an amazing par 3 18th hole. Since this course is up in Northern Arizona it is closed during the winter do to freezing and snow. My only complaint was the slow pace, took us five hours for the round. Other then that, it was a great time. read more

Looks nice would like to experience it went in eight months ago to inquire about lessons. Information was taken down from me was told that the head golf person would contact me, never did still waiting. The course itself is very nice looking but I will say this that through my walk around the property there's so much potential here the club room looks abandoned. They could easily serving lunch here and probably make a very good profit. I understand this is a public golf course but that doesn't mean you have to run it like public housing. read more

Fun course! Nice mix of tree lined target golf and more of a meadows style. Greens and fairways were healthy and virtually devoid of dead spots. If you're not used to playing at elevation (which I'm not), I'd account for about 20% extra distance--clocking a couple drives at 330+ was definitely good for my ego. The greens were receptive, but not "slow" per se; be aware of grain patterns as they had a significant impact on speed. Nice elevation changes, too, especially down the stretch. Keep it in the fairway and adjust for gusty conditions as much as you can! read more

One of the best public courses in Arizona. The "upper" nine holes have no homes to play through. Lots of tall pines, shade & deer. The "downhill" nine have very nice homes that are far enough off course to not interfere with play. Great greens and fairways throughout. Tough but fair course, even for higher handicappers. Marshals insists on groups keeping pace with play on course and will encourage or direct faster groups to play through. Par 5s on the way back in are really interesting. Suggest using 18 Birdies Golf App! Good luck with 17!!! And 18 is a blast of a closing hole. Small, rustic clubhouse is just perfect. Friendly staff. read more

Beautiful course. The supposed 4hr 18hole game time was more like 1.5 hrs in deep fairway on the 8th was your playing too slow the Martial spoke with me 3 times from hole 8 to 11. The group finished in 3.5 hrs waited 25 min to see the group behind us at the tee on 18th. Dont recommend. read more

Certainly not an easy course but a scenic gem. The greens are gorgeous and the lost ball frequency is very low. Not a cheap course but certainly worth the price given the sheer beauty of the course. read more

This in a quaint, rural community just west of Williams (where the Grand Canyon train leaves). Course is in great shape and the high elevation and daily rain shower keep it cool and green. Greens, bunkers and penalty area are all well maintained. The price point is a bit high for a Monday round. The grill has a limited menu but sandwiches and snacks offered where more than adequate. The beer is cold and the staff are friendly and helpful. This is recommended if you are in the Flagstaff area. It's an easy drive over to Williams. Call ahead to reserve a tee time. read more

Extremely rude marshalls. They have no idea how to tell people with respect to either speed up their pace of play or to wait for someone to play thru. They treated my wife who is learning like she shouldn't be on the course playing because she was taking too long. Made her feel like she didn't belong out there and she didn't want to play after that. This is the second time something like this has happened. I've been playing golf for 15+ years and I've never seen the disrespect that this course showed me. I will not be going back. read more

Course was good with quite a few challenges in the wooded area of the course. About 1/2 of the course is a basic muni you could find about anywhere, but the rest is pine-laden fun. Course is ok but they use something the pro calls a pacesetter group. This is a group of 5 golfers he says he sends out first in the morning to insure that the rounds aren't finished any earlier than 4 hours. This group will not let anyone play through. This explanation sounds very fishy since I can't imagine there are always 5 golfers ready to go. Also, these golfers should be wearing helmets since there are people who will hit into them. read more

This course was by far one of the better courses I have had the pleasure of playing. Not long from the white tees but definitely will bring trouble if not straight. Scott (pro shop) was more than hospitable in getting my son and I on the course same day, with several call backs to accommodate with open tee times. The wait staff at the restaurant was also very friendly and the food was above par! Will definitely seek out this course on the visit to the high desert!!! read more

Challenging course with great views. You need to have your thinking cap on where to hit the ball and hit it there. Greens are in great shape. Love # 17 and #18, so fun to go up the hill then down on the last finishing hole. Golf shop staff is great and restaurant is friendly, those hot dogs are super. Definitely recommend this course for fun and challenge. Been playing it every summer for past 7 years and enjoyed it every time. Even got stuck in the rain one time, so when you see the covered area's for shelter, they are there for a reason. Enjoy.... read more

Golf course was beautiful, however the staff were some of the most disrespectful and condescending people I have ever met, and I personally have been to quite a few courses even nicer than this. This was our first time at this particular course and we were harassed the entire time and followed by a course marshall, asking if we had paid and why we were playing so slow despite not holding up anyone behind us. They lied on the phone about numerous details when we called to complain and refused to let us speak to the manager of the course stating we need to call the city of Williams to complain . We will be speaking with the city of Williams rest assured. I will never recommend this course to anyone. Look elsewhere to play, unless you want to be hounded and followed throughout the course. read more

Think twice before playing this course. We chose this course for our annual family reunion golf outing this year and it was hands down the worst experience we had. To problems started almost immediately with a lack of golf carts. Folks were waiting at the first tee for others to finish and turn in their carts. By the time our three groups started, there was no one on the first hole and the previous group was half way up the second hole. When our third group was on the first hole, the course marshal came out and informed them that they were playing too slow and made them pick up their balls and go to the second hole.. Later at the 14th hole, with no prior warnings or requests to speed up play, we were told that all our groups had to skip the next hold to speed things up. Most of this comes from the fact that they apparently expect folks to finish 18 holes in 4 hours flat, which is unheard of in my 50+ years of playing golf. I have also never been told I had to skip holes or pick up my ball without finishing a hole. On top of all that, the facility is pretty old and run down. To top off the experience, we usually have family join at the clubhouse for snacks and drinks on the patio each year, but when they told us there were no dogs allowed on the property, even on the clubhouse patio, the family opted to skip that this year. Needless to say, if we ever decide to hold a reunion in Flagstaff again, we will not be playing the Elephand Rocks golf course. read more

Golf course was beautiful. However, we went to the clubhouse afterwards and paid outrageous prices for food that looked and tasted less appealing than food at McDonalds. Blonde bartender was awkwardly rude & fake to our group, and not knowledgeable of menu or beer selections when they had no drink list to display our options. She also told us the burger cheese options were cheddar or swiss, and when we ordered cheddar it was in fact American cheese. I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich, which consisted of chunks of their crappy low quality chicken tenders squished between a bun! We will definitely return to the course but will not ever bother to go back to the clubhouse. read more

The course itself is kind of "meh"; reasonably well-kept (except the tee boxes were all in terrible shape), fairly challenging with lots of forced-carries over ball-eating terrain and lots of sand and water hazards. The facilities seem to have been constructed in the 1940s--nothing like most golf courses I've played at, and frankly kind of shabby. The people working the pro shop were great--very friendly and accomodating. So why the one star? Because they had a course marshal that was far and away the worst, rudest marshal I (and all of my playing partners) have ever encountered in over 30 years of playing golf. We were told (very rudely) to pick up our balls, after our second shots ON THE FIRST HOLE! We were probably 2-3 minutes behind at that point, mainly because we teed off a couple minutes late, because they had to scramble to get golf carts ready for us. But I've NEVER had a marshal tell me we need to pick up our balls before finishing a hole--never mind the FIRST hole. But wait--it gets worse! Upon finishing the 14th hole, even tho we'd been mostly keeping up with the group in front of us, and even tho a twosome behind us decided to play through our foursome (without bothering to ask if it was okay), we were told by the same marshal to skip the 15th hole altogether, because we were "playing too slow." WTF?! When you're waiting on the tee box on most holes for the group in front of you, how much faster are you supposed to play? And it didn't help one bit that they had signs posted that said we were supposed to play 18 holes in 4 hours--again, WTF?! Just about every par-72, normal length course I've ever played on allots 4:30 for 18 holes (or an average of 15 minutes per hole). I've NEVER seen anything less than maybe 4:20, so they put you behind the 8-ball from the start. Unless you want to play with the marshall-from-hell hounding you your entire round, I'd stay away from this course. I certainly will never be playing there again. read more

The booking system needs major improvement. Saw that they had a $10 special for noontime. Of course this turned out to not be true...conveniently not able to book. When I called and spoke with the young man who is the golf course worker/attendant he said that he showed that there was one slot left for 1 golfer--what I wanted. However when I asked him if he could book it he said no b/c it is an online special. Something is screwed up somewhere...My advice don't trust what you see on the online book a tee time. Its just a scam to get you in. I'll let my husband play for $48 with a cart for one time only. They had better let my 12 yr old son go with him and ride on the cart or else I'll be back with another bad review. Its just like everything else here in this town WAY OVERPRICED read more

Elephant Rocks is part mountain golf and part meadow golf, really a perfect mix. The course is challenging for all level of golfers, with a good mix of long and short holes. I have only been there in September, but each time conditions have been really good. The staff in the golf shop are very helpful and friendly. On the subject of conditions, you just cannot trust The Weather Channel's forecast, because the weather in the mountains change quickly. When you see a 70% chance of storms, there is a good chance there will be a storm, FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. Do not be scared away by a weather app. Love the restaurant, the staff is super nice and the food is great, try the burger. read more

This is a lovely course and at 7,000 ft. elevation, your ball really flies a long way. I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the course. My husband didn't find it super challenging but he still enjoyed himself. I would love to come back and play this again. read more

Great layout. Good mix of reasonable holes and difficult holes (4, 16,17)The. Greens always in great shape, views terrific, fairways good, traps have good sand. The club house is rustic with great help, very friendly. This course is superior to other public courses in the area and priced better. Always a treat to play here. Awesome tough but excellent golf course. Excellent customer service from the pro shop to the bar and restaurant and beer cart. Our group plays in Las Vegas all the time and comes out to Williams once a year and it is the most enjoyable weekend. Best burgers in town. Already booked our tournament for next September. read more
