I found Elements Massage on Yelp (of course) after my monthly standing appointment sold the business and moved. I originally had an appointment - thanks to glowing reviews - with Matthew. I had to change that because of work and discovered Kelly. A gem!! For the entire 90 minutes, he worked out the aches in my neck, back, legs - basically, I was one tightly wound ache. Only one time did I say "lighter." How awesome is that to have someone so intuitive!! Before I left, I made sure Kelly and I now have a standing appointment. I have been going to Elements Therapeutic for about six months now and I've only had one therapist this entire time, Preston. I'm sure the other therapists are wonderful, but I felt comfortable with Preston from our first meeting and like our rapport. I'm a runner and Preston is very familiar with the areas of stress for runners as well as the areas that need to be addressed when I've been weight lifting or using kettle bells or taking traditional or Bikram yoga. He also pays attention to my forearms and hands because I'm on a computer all day. Preston makes sure the room and table are set to my preference. i get really hot quickly so he makes sure the table isn't warming and that I have sheets and no blanket. Preston checks with me to confirm the pressure he's using vs. if I need more or less pressure and if I need more work on any area before he moves to another zone. The other thing I like is that if there's any conversation during my massage, it's because I've initiated it. Preston respects the fact that the massage is a time for me to relax and if silence is what I need, it's what I get. I was introduced to Elements Therapeutic at an event and was able to meet one of the other therapists, Monica. I have friends who have worked with Monica and speak well of her too. Based on my experiences with Elements Therapeutic in person, on the phone, and via email, I've recommended Elements Therapeutic to several of my running friends and will continue to do so with confidence. So I was disappointed that my massage started five minutes past the start time and ended 4 minutes early. Massage was above average. Let me start off by saying that I am not a complainer. I like to give all people the benefit of the doubt, and I rarely write negative reviews. I tried to see mainly the positive in Elements Therapeutic Massage, as I was really hopeful that it would be awesome. However, I couldn't help but feel as though the business cared more about being paid for this one session, than they did about creating a lasting happy client who would be able to promote their business. I first saw Elements Therapeutic Massage while driving through Vienna trafiic on a Friday afternoon. When I came in to check it out and see if there was any immediate openings I learned that the place is brand new and they were able to provide me with a session that day. The ambience was clean, simple and inviting. The front desk attendant named Shardae was very friendly and helpful, and answered all of my questions to the best of her ability. She was able to get me in for a massage with a therapist named Preston in just about 25 mins. When she booked the session it was 3:50 and she set it for 4:00, but then I had to wait until 4:15 for Preston to take me for my session. I understand that I came in as a walk-in, however, I would have appreciated being told that I would need to wait a few minutes. When Preston finally came out to greet me to take me back to the room, the first thing he said to me was, "Is your phone off?" I felt that the tone of voice he used was not comfort promoting, but rather accusatory. During the pre-treatment client/practitioner inquiry I specifically told Preston that I wanted him to focus on my upper body and arms, and that I needed a lot of pressure there. He agreed and took copious notes. When he started the session he barely warmed up my back before placing a heated pack on my back and then started working on my legs. I was frustrated by this, since I needed him to begin with my back and upper body. The strokes he used were uncomfortable and I even let him know and he still proceeded to do the same strokes on my other leg. When he finally came to my back (which was the reason I needed a massage) I asked for more pressure and that is when he told me "I am warming you up first". Except he was barely reaching my muscles at all and his pressure never did increase. Also, when he used his elbow on my back I could feel the coolness of his sweat coming from his arms. It made my back sticky as it mixed with the massage lotion. Also, at the end when he was working my neck I noticed that he was wearing rubber gloves. The smell of the gloves was bothersome, and they kept slipping so he would interrupt the massage to adjust them. I understand that Preston is new to massage therapy, but I just get the sense that his heart is not in it - and in this business clients will pick up on that. At the end of the session I was more tense than when I came in and felt like I needed a different massage to reset me. After waking up the day after the session, I still feel the tension in my shoulders, that I know a good massage could have relieved. I know this because I am a Massage Therapist myself (with my own wellness company) and I have provided and received countless massages over the past 9 years all over the world. The most upsetting thing is that when I politely let Shardae at the front desk know that I was unhappy with my session, the only thing she offered was for me to come back and try another therapist at the same new client rate. If I was not happy with my session why would I have the trust in this company that coming back to a different therapist would be any better? I needed another massage that same day to undo the session I had with Preston. Why should I have to pay MORE to undo a bad therapeutic session? Unfortunately, overall, Elements is not a place I can recommend to my clients, friends, co-workers and contacts. That's too bad since it could have had so much potential! read more

I visited Elements Therapeutic Massage in Vienna VA. as a walk in, with out an appointment, and I was simply blown away. The staff was very pleasant, the ambiance was inviting and relaxing, and Debbie was amazing. I suffer with chronic lower back and hip pain, and after the deep tissue massage I received, I felt so relaxed and pain free. What I really liked about the philosophy of Elements Therapeutic Massage, is the focus on overall wellness, and reducing pain and stress. I will sign up to become a member, and take advantage of the deep savings. When they told me my first massage was only $59, I was pleasantly surprised, considering a few days prior I paid nearly 4X that much at a resort spa, and can honestly share, they didn't come close to the massage treatment I received with Debbie at Elements Massage in Vienna. read more

John (the Owner) work with me on the phone to try to find a better therapist and boy did this make the difference. I appreciate that the owner cares about his business and I hope to return as long as I am able. When I walked in 10 min prior to my appointment I was welcomed and asked to fill out paper work I was told about the wellness program and that my massage would begin soon. It was not until 13 minutes after my appointment I was finally taken back, The therapist was friendly but that about it. She asked me what I wanted to focus on and I was very clear that I only wanted to focus on my Back, Neck and Shoulders. She then asked me to undress and left the room she returned a few minutes later. I generally get a massage once a month and just moved to the area and thought i would try a new place. During the massage I felt anything but relaxed, the therapist has very rough hands that felt more like sand paper or a cats tung, and to top it off she seamed to forget how I just wanted to focus on my back. She also spent an unusual amount of time poking her finger into the point on the pack of my head and this was one of the most uncomfortable feeling i have ever experienced the pressure she kept applying felt like i was being held up by a hanger hook to the back of the head. As I write I feel more stressed reflecting back on the experience... The massage finished just short of the hour and I felt very jipped if I wanted a 45 min massage I would have paid for one at the mall and it would have been better. I searched the Vienna/McLean/Tysons/Falls Church area for about three years before finally finding Elements. I now go to Julisa relatively regularly, and she's the best massage therapist I've found in the area. I also love the general ambiance and cleanliness of the waiting room and massage rooms. While I don't have a membership, I've never felt pressured into buying one, and the front desk always mentions it if they have a current promotion going. If I had to offer a note of feedback I would say that occasionally some of the male massage therapists and male clients (sorry guys, just what I've noticed) get a bit loud with their discussions in the hallway and massage rooms, but it's usually relatively minor and doesn't last long. read more

Bad experience that left me upset and unhappy instead of relaxed. Therapist made rude and sexist comments about out of shape, middle aged female clients, told shockingly rude story about doing a couples massage with another therapist who told the client she was a "raging bitch." He was very aggressive and when I told him what he was doing hurt, he said maybe I should try one of the female therapists with little hands. I also told him at one point that he was moving my neck in a way that was undoing the work he'd done; he questioned my statement--I am still in pain this morning. I purchased a 3-massage package with Groupon for Elements Massage. I called Elements Massage 3 times to schedule an appointment. They seem to be generally unaccomodating and less than polite when the Groupon is mentioned. The first two times I mentioned the Groupon and they didn't have anything available over the next few weeks. The third time, today, I called without mentioning the Groupon and the receptionist gave me a same day appointment. I then told her about the Groupon and she said she was mistaken and that the appointment that day was already filled. I explained the difficulty I had been having making appointments and asked her how I could make one. I asked her a question about how far in advance and how late in the day appointments could be booked and she did not answer, just kept repeatedly saying "it depends," which I found odd. I started throwing out times, and finally found one that she would book me for. She then asked for a credit card and said she would hold a $45 charge as a cancellation fee. I asked if she could not just hold one of the Groupon massages I had already purchased and paid for in the event of the cancellation, and she said no, that that didn't count as payment. I certainly understand the need for cancellation protection, but more than this answer, the sequence of these events and the general disdain they seem to have for the Groupon purchase has made this an unpleasant experience and has led me to believe that they will try to up charge me or just make it difficult for me to use the Groupon I have purchased. I feel that if they did not wish to engage Groupon in this promotion, they should not have, and that it is unfair to a consumer to allow Groupon to collect money and then to try to prevent the purchaser from using what was advertised by group on and paid for. Perhaps an Elements customer not using a Groupon would have a better experience. But the general tone they used with me on the phone leads me to believe they are not a very friendly or professional outfit. I didn't force them to offer the Groupon, so it doesn't seem like they should hold it against me that I purchased it. read more

This was my first visit as I am in town taking care of my elderly aunt and had to do a lot of cleaning out of her second bedroom in order for me to stay. Well after two weeks of this my back and legs were a wreck. I saw Danielle and she was wonderful. I felt so good and relaxed after my visit with her. I'm not one to leave reviews, but felt this place deserved one. A friend recommended Elements, and I'm so glad I gave it a shot! The front desk person, Danielle, was very welcoming and pleasant. I told her I needed someone that could do a deep tissue massage and she directed me to Mac. I let him know beforehand that I suffer from degenerative disc disease on my lumbar, and that I was having painful muscle spasms that day and very tight back muscles. He addressed all of my issues with the exact amount of pressure I needed, while being mindful of areas that needed extra work on. I am constantly on a quest for finding spas around DC that can deliver a good massage, but very few were able to relieve my back pain like this therapist did.
