While some of the massage therapists are terrific, the quality is inconsistent. However, last time I was there, I had in my calendar that i had booked a 60-minute massage. Then they gave me a 90-minute massage (which was lovely), that I hadn't asked for. None of their 3 automatic text reminders said it was a 90-minute, nor had they said that when I checked in. So I had to pay top dollar for a massage I hadn't asked for. When I complained they simply said it was booked as a 90-minute in their system. So much for the customer being right. Watch your bank account - they will charge extra on your card!! I left 40$ tip, which they then "rounded up" to an even 100$! (Said they assumed thats what I meant to leave. Pure theft. Got them to refund.) Massage is average, nothing special. The masseuse may or may not understand english enough to follow your directions. Music in the room was waaaay to pitchy, with the diskant scratting every time there is a bell sound - horrible! Also, if you are so reliant on tips, you are underpaying your staff! The membership program is a scam, it's impossible to get appointments (if you work) so you're sessions expire before you can use them and Elements keeps your money. I have never encountered such terrible customer service. My wife had and appointment there this morning. She came early to fill up their paperwork and was waiting for her appointment. After waiting for a while she was told that her therapist is late and she's going to have to reschedule her appointment without any explanation. My wife was very upset and had to leave as they said she can come back later today. I called the place to see what happened and was talking to the assistant manager who told me that my wife therapist got into an accident. I understand things happen but then I asked why they couldn't accommodate my wife with a different person. At this point the assistant manager became rude, condescending, unprofessional and raised her voice. I never encountered such bad customer service. read more

I've been going here for years with mixed results - however after my experience today trying to book a massage, I am done - here's why: In Oct. 2019, my wife purchased a "3-pack" of massages for me. I was calling today to book the 3rd and last one, when I was told by the manager that my package had expired (unbeknownst to me) in Oct. of last year, i.e. after one year. When my wife purchased the 3-pack at the location, she was given nothing but a receipt (with no mention of any expiration date), so if in fact it was communicated to her verbally at the time of purchase that there was an expiration date, we had no written record of this. As we all know, we have been in a pandemic since March of last year (6 months after this purchase), and in my opinion, most hospitality and wellness businesses have (or should have) extended any gift cards or packages since people have been encouraged to stay at home during this time, and certainly discouraged from close contact like a massage. In any case, she informed me that, despite the fact that she is the manager, there was "nothing she could do to accommodate me" because it would not be fair to others, and because "she was not the manager when the purchase was made". Please keep in mind, all I was asking was to for them to honor the third of 3 sessions that was already paid for, but not used because a) we are in the midst of a pandemic, and b) we were not aware that there was a 1-year limit on the package (again, no record of that, just a receipt with no mention of the expiration date). In addition, the manager became quite rude and irate when I asked why she did not have the discretion to honor the gift package, and actually started to speak over me, despite the fact that I remained calm throughout the conversation. Apparently, I am not the only one who has had customer service issues here, so I will take my business elsewhere and recommend others doing the same. I understand that "small businesses" like these may be struggling, but I was really hoping for more accommodation and helpfulness under these circumstances because now I am out $95. I love that there's sanitized pens and filtration machines around the studio. They also limit the amount of people in the lobby for safety, and it keeps the environment calm and lowkey. Point blank, I love Janet. She made me feel so comfortable and safe through the massage, taking extra care to make sure she was covering me up properly. I tried the himalayan salt stones and, along with the heated bed, it was warm and cozy. I walked in with anxiety and feeling tired and I walked out with a clear head and feeling tranquil. I'm pretty hyper and so my friend noticed a difference in me right after. I notice there were a lot of bad reviews in 2019. Most of the staff has changed so I'd suggest giving it another try because everyone I spoke to recently was very sweet. I have been to other Elements Massage locations before this but this was my first time in Belmont. I had a Spa Finder gift card and this location honors those. I had no trouble booking an appointment even with a specialty request (I wanted hot stones). The receptionists were pleasant and explained everything well. My massage therapist, Janet, was AMAZING. I learned after that she is one of their most sought after massage therapists. I don't have much time anymore to get massages like I used to but I will definitely be coming back. I had a membership and could never get an appointment at the time that I was available outside of work hours. Unless you book way in advance, it's likely that you will find an appointment. Because of that, I have many banked sessions and decided to cancel my membership. When you cancel your account, they rather that you loose those sessions and they get to keep your money. Their contract is designed to do just that and no one who works there will look out for you. I understand how small business needs to run. I have a freelance business myself. When you spent money on Groupon and didn't use the deal, they don't take your money. The fact the Elements does it is unethical to me. As a former employee (front desk) of Elements I cannot begin to express my dismay in my massage yesterday. I have never written a single bad review on Yelp but after calling management with absolutely zero follow up I feel that it needs to be addressed publicly. Maybe the owner Janice Soto will see this and address it with her management. I was paired with a therapist that was conveyed to me to be a COMPLETELY different person (I was under the assumption I was seeing a therapist that had left Elements and come back, Nadine who was absolutely phenomenal). I had spoken to two different front desk associates explaining I had to cancel my massage with Nadine for this Sunday the 19th but would love to rebook with her. I was so excited that I could be rebooked and see her yesterday May 15. So at this point I had said several times that I was excited to see this Nadine and named her by name to the front desk staff without EVER being corrected. When I arrived at my massage I found I was seeing someone completely different with a similar name. I was in complete shock and didn't want to come off as rude to the therapist so I went along with the massage with an open mind. As an aside I had even gone so far as to recommend Nadine to two of my colleagues to see who subsequently booked appointments and were also given the wrong therapist (This therapist has a similar name). They both had terrible experiences which I found out after my massage yesterday when I called them both. I am mortified that I made such a high recommendation and we were all so disappointed. The massage was terrible. Terrible in terms of pressure, flow, and professionalism. I was specific in asking what I wanted ( a general relaxing massage as I am a new mother with all around work on the body excluding head and feet). I was told to "relax" several times. The therapist said "Wow talk about tension" at least three times. She also said several times " I feel like I'm hurting you." I literally felt as if I got beaten and I am used to higher pressure massages. I have had nearly 50 massages at Elements and have never had a SINGLE complaint. None one. Mistakes happen, I also realize that not every therapist is going to mesh well with every client. The front desk books so many massages every single day so it's easy for things to get confusing. The fact that after speaking with management nothing was offered to make up for this experience is ridiculous. That was never the Elements way. I also recommended to the manager that she contact my two colleagues to ask about their experience as well but no information was taken down. The word of a very loyal customer and former employee that has done nothing but praise this establishment to not receive anything except "Thank you for your feedback" is absurd. Word to any new customer or member: Ask what you want in terms of pressure, ask who you are seeing. Make sure it is the right fit. I am a massage addict. I get at least 3-4 massages a month. So I joined this place as one of the options. ( and get the others at other locations and even have a guy that comes to my house) BTW his 90 minute massage in my home is cheaper ( and better) than an hour here. I had been a member on and off for 5 years and now it is off. I was a member for 2 years and left for a year for a variety of reasons and decided to come back and give it a shot. I found 2 good therapists after having several bad ones that I still had to pay for. My last session was today (even though I thought it was tomorrow). Usually they call to remind you 1-2 days before but they didn't. The called me 15 minutes after my time and I would have rushed to get there. They could have easily said no problem get here and we'll give you the 55 minutes... but all they would give me is a 25 minute massage even though I paid for a 55 minute massage. ( I have spend over $3000 or more there over the past couple of years. Seriously?!?!) Just one more reason I cancelled my membership! Oh and some of them are not even a full 55 minutes. The prices are ridiculous $89 for 55 minutes. It is NOT a spa! They give you a "discount' to be a member so you pay $59.. Honestly they are not even worth $59 by the time you tip 15-20%. Way to much for the quality and now the bad service! One therapist that is still there will remain nameless (because some people like her and there are different styles and chemistry when someone works on you. ) I respect that others like her but she just was not the therapist for me. She is a smoker and must have smoked on a break before she came in and I could smell the smoke right away, it was hard to breathe and we just didn't click. As each minute went by instead of melting I got more stressed. I finally had to say I had a stomach ache and left after 22 minutes because I just couldn't take it anymore ( and yeah, they still charged me for the massage!) ******** I did change my review from 1 up to 3 stars because they did finally call me and let me have my massage so that was appreciated. Five stars for Sherry at Elements in Belmont. She is so nurturing, caring, and genuinely sweet. I had the fortune of having her for my massages. I actually got a package of 5 massages and found her to be absolutely wonderful. The decor of this place is so relaxing. Deep browns that are calming are throughout the establishment. Comfy tables (heated), soft music and light -- and best of all SHERRY. I would recommend her to anyone who wants an awesome massage. I've had about - well, I've had at least 200 massages in my life, and she was above and beyond most people I've seen. If I lived closer to Belmont, I'd become a regular. I've used many local massage centers/spas (MassageWorks, Healthworks for Women, Waddington's) and have gone to Elements three times now. I would never have known about them if it had not been for one of those Val-Pak coupons in the mail. The first massage for new customers was $49; the second was $59 (a special). I'll start with the positives. PROS: friendly staff, pleasant reception area and treatment rooms. The massage therapists I've seen have all been friendly and professional. I have been able to book same-day appointments, which is a HUGE plus when I'm feeling stressed out. CONS: I have yet to have a full 55-minute massage there. The first couple of times I thought "Wow, that went by very quickly" and the most recent experience was definitely 45 minutes. I showed up on time and the therapist was still setting the room up. No problem, but I should have gotten the time I paid for. I don't know if the 55 minutes includes room set up, disrobing and re-clothing, etc. or if it's meant to be 55 minutes of massage. The location is not the easiest to find or get to if you're not familiar with Belmont. Also, as each therapist has a different style, don't assume that you're going to get the same treatment each time. One therapist ignored my feet (a disappointment!) while another one massaged them (ahhhh). Also, while reasonable by Boston-area standards ($69), bear in mind that you're encouraged to tip. Each room has a suggested tip amount, starting with 20% and going all the way up to 40%, which I find a bit presumptuous. I'll give Elements another chance, given that it's great to have a massage place that has same-day appointments...but I find it erroneous to call a 45-minute massage by anything other than what it is: 45 minutes. Very soothing atmosphere, everything from colors to reception. I particularly like how much they can cater the massage to your needs. I've tried different therapists and all have a different specialty and deepness. So make sure to tell the receptionist when you book your appointment what you are looking for. Then reiterate to your therapist what you want. I have gone 3 three times to get my necked worked on (stress-related) and have left feeling great with no pain for days. The location is super convenient for me, no hassle on street parking. The front staff was personably and very helpful in getting me signed up for an appointment and filling out all the needed paperwork. My mind was completely put at ease when I walked through the doors of Elements Therapeutic Massage on Saturday. Any business that decorates in a warm, chocolate brown color gets two thumbs (aka 4 stars) from me. But what really put this over to the 5 star rating was the awesome customer service I received, the super-cool masseuse, and the killer massage I got. When I made the appointment at work on Friday, I was asked if I had any medical problems. Well, I'm knocked up but not telling my coworkers yet, so I (of course) said, "Nope." They were able to book me an appointment the very next morning -- Unheard of! So when I arrived, I mentioned the whole "not telling work" scenario, and they insisted on getting me a masseuse who specialized in prenatal massage. After moving around appointments (which I felt horrible about), they fit me in at the same time -- all with a smile on their faces and a "We're happy to make it work for you!" attitude. The girl at the front desk was so friendly, kind, and eager to make it happen. After 5 minutes, my masseuse came around and introduced herself. We walked back through a dark hallway to a nice, neat, CLEAN little room. For the next 80 minutes, I moaned, I drooled, and I relaxed. I fell asleep and woke up at the end incredibly pleased that I was so relaxed I had slept through 60% of my appointment. That never happens to me. After changing and getting my own bottle of water, I used their restroom (also sparkling clean) and went to pay the bill. 80 minutes for $95, with a $10 discount on my next appointment was a steal. I paid, tipped generously, and immediately rebooked an appointment two weeks out. E.T.M. has Back Bay style with suburb pricing, and I would recommend it to anyone. Make the trip to B-mo. Elements, Newton does not look very attractive from the outside because of the generic storefront but the service here is actually very good! Receptionist is always helpful and friendly. I've never been here where I felt like its too crowded. I've made appointments the day before and there always seem to be an open masseuse which is great. I've been to places where I have to make appointments weeks out and thats just terrible if you have pain. I come for the sports massage and I feel that I get great attention and service from the masseuses here. The rooms are very zen and calming and my favorite thing here is the heated bed which really loosens the muscles even before the massage. I always leave here feeling great with a bottle of water in my hands. Can't ask for more! I signed up for the monthly auto-debit program which is great. I get to go once a month and the fee is automatically taken from my account. If I don't go that month, my visit is rolled over to the next month. Also, I got an extra 10 bucks credit for my birthday. It's been 4 years since I've been going to Elements and I've had great success with my experiences with the staff and therapists. The staff has been accommodating, friendly and exceptional. They've paired me with excellent therapists over the years, and I've yet to be disappointed. Recently, I've been seeing Dawn and Heidi. Both are awesome and have provided me with relief each visit. They focus on deep tissue and swedish, which is a great mixture - locating the pain and providing immediate relief. The prices as a member are reasonable and I would highly recommend folks to consider trying this place out, especially if you have daily pain. I am extremely disappointed with the level of difficulty of booking an appointment here. I used the app to book an appointment, but then received an email only a few hours before the requested appointment that the appointment was unavailable. I tried again and received a confirmation email. When I showed up the appointment, I was told that they had texted me and called me the day before to confirm the appointment and had canceled after no response. I have neither a text or voicemail from them. I feel like my time has been wasted twice and I won't be trying again. read more

One of the best things about "Elements" is that whoever you get on the phone when you call to book an appointment will try to fit you in for any time that your little heart desires. That's important to me, because I'm a notorious last minute appointment booker. I'm also impressed that everyone there remembers you and your personal preferences -- the whole atmosphere is welcoming and inviting. Having been to other spa/beauty franchises, this is definitely the best done of the bunch. (Kudos to them on their exterior changes as well -- adding the flowers, etc. to the outside really makes the trip inside a lot more cheerful. You're neighbors in that plaza should take a lesson from you!) On the length of each massage -- I check the time that my appointments take because I like to feel like I'm getting exactly what I pay for. I have not been disapointed with my appointments. Perhaps the challenge that some reviewers have noted is due to a specific therapist rather than the spa itself? Overall, I like Elements very much. Years ago when I went to Elements I loved it. I recommend it to people and had people join. Then people were told you had an option of buying a package or monthly membership. I did not want to do the monthly automatic withdrawal so I went monthly and bought packages. UNTIL I encountered a lot of difficulty getting the same therapist and only daytime work day appointments were available.... after I'd had consistent long term times and dates. The other challenge was getting a good therapist only to have them a couple of times before they moved on to a new practice. Gradually I went to another location for a consistent therapist. But continued to buy gift card for people at the annual membership sale. Until I was told I no longer was considered a member....YET they retained ALL my personal INFORMATION AND CREDIT CARD INFORMATION. So if you want and expect privacy or protection of your information you are out of luck. IF you want consistent practice....you are out of LUCK. The therapist are generally good but turn over often so draw your own conclusions. read more

I regretfully write this review as I was a four-year member of the Elements Massage subscription program with monthly massages. Over the course of four years, I have witnessed an overall complacency with the staff and therapists. The final straw came earlier this month where the staff member who admitted working for three months was providing massage advice on therapists, but on closer questioning, it was obvious that Isabella had little understanding of any of the modalities offered, and had a cursory understanding of massage. I was deeply insulted that someone who could easily advise on massage therapy had little understanding of massage and admitted to only getting a "couple" of massages in her life. I think there are some very skilled therapists there, however, I feel that many of the newer skilled therapists understand to move onto another clinic as it was obvious that the business had a high turnover in therapists. The remaining few good therapists are listed among the other reviews; I would heed caution to some of the other therapists as some have no skill for massage at all. It's very obvious which therapists are more skilled as those therapists are typically booked consistently. Finally as a member, I found no perks of being a member. My credit card was accurately charged on the first of the month, and the "banked" massage system worked well to their credit. There was an obvious push to sell gift certificates and membership, but there was no incentive to stay on as a member. There were advertisements for free hot stone massage or aromatherapy for members, but this was never offered by the therapists. The "crock pot" for hot stone massage is a constant landmark parked next to bathroom for three years now. I feel Ashley, Cathy, and Sandy have found a business well enough to sell gift certificates at a constant rate through constant marketing materials, so the actual need for staying subscribed members is only secondary. Feeling secondary was adequate for me, but the "final straw" came from Front Desk employee who thought massage less as therapy, but more as a game. read more

I received a massage here as a (very) belated Christmas present in September. I had just moved apartments, so my massage was just what I needed. Low lights, soft music, and strong skilled hands eased every achy muscle from head to toe. My masseuse, Raffi, was excellent, he knew what he was doing, and even suggested some stretches for me to do based on where I was tense. I will absolutely be going back! read more

I had an 80 minute massage with Loretta-Marie, and she was fantastic! She made sure I was comfortable and frequently asked if I liked the level of pressure she used (I did!). She wasn't chatty during the massage, which I appreciate. I felt like I was made of jelly by the time the massage was finished. My only complaint, and the reason I can't give 5 stars, is that the massage space is next door to another business and I could hear people talking through the walls. Loretta-Marie asked the front desk to tell them to keep it down, and it did get quieter after that. But by the end of the session I could hear them again. I got the sense that it's a pretty frequent problem. The massage itself was worth 5 stars. It's a shame about the space, but it isn't enough to keep me from going back. read more

I've had a like/hate relationship with this place since it opened. The services are good and well-price, the staff friendly and helpful, and the environment is just fine. The issue is availability or lack thereof. I've gone on and off their membership program three times, and I've found the great therapists to be really helpful, e.g. Raffi who was the primary therapist for a couple Harvard sports teams and left to teach at Cortive. It's impossible to get last minute (i.e. less than one week notice) appointments for times when most people aren't working. If you want appointments at 11 or 2 on Tuesday, that's not a problem. Saturday - you need to book at least a couple weeks in advance, and if you want one of their prize therapists, it's literally months. So a suggestion that will incense some (many?) people. I wouldn't mind variable pricing - charge more for weekends, even more for the last spot on the weekends. Considering these folks are doing great work and while they aren't in it for the month, they need to make a living, charging more - perhaps a lot more - for peak demand (and seeing the vast majority if not all of the difference go into the therapists' pockets), would potentially even out the demand. It has the added benefit of allowing the therapists to stay longer. The basic truth is that the compensation they see is relatively light, making it difficult for them to stay versus running their own solo gig when they can build up a clientele. Perhaps this can help them stay. read more

This was not a relaxing experience... I received a gift card and booked a massage. The environment itself is not relaxing, the floors creak and you can hear noises from other rooms. The massage therapist was not very good either. He didn't seem very experienced and definitely didn't know how to provide a relaxing or effective massage. The massage was over before my alloted time was actually up, but it was so 'meh' I got up and went home. Later, they called me to tell me that the gift card I had given them was to some other location and that I'd have to come back in and pay them OOP for the massage. I'm hoping they figured out what to do with that gift card and get their staff paid, because that's no longer my issue - not after I had already checked in and had my massage and gone home. Next time I feel the need for a massage I'll be reading the yelp reviews to find a more professional salon. read more
