My first contact was by phone and I was greeted by a very pleasant and knowledgeable person. An appointment was easily scheduled and upon the arrival of the estimator, Curtis explained every step of the process including the task of dealing with my homeowners insurance company. He deployed an impressive drone and quickly surveyed the hail damaged roof on my house and garage. We received a prompt estimate from Foster and accepted the contract after discussing it with my insurance company. I had a few clerical questions and I was really impressed with Laureen in the office. The installation crew worked diligently throughout the horribly hot weather and completed the entire job in just under four days. They paid absolute attention to our yard and driveway with regard to debris and nails. They even used a magnetic device to pick up any missed nails. Once he got out here it was 1 days work to fix the roof and it does look good and no longer leaks. However, he left a huge mess in our yard for another couple months, we got a nail in our tire from it, I finally messaged him and complained about the mess and he came out and cleaned up the bigger stuff. He also tore down an old building out back and left broken glass all over our yard. I have pets who go out there and am about to have a baby and now I'm not going to feel comfortable letting my kid play in the back yard because of how scattered the broken glass is, I'll never be able to get it all cleaned up! I don't want to have to have a whole lot of interaction for a simple job. If you did, then that indicates a problem, and I had no problem here. The following issue is minor and shouldn't dissuade any one from doing business with them. The only thing that I wasn't thrilled about was the price. Maybe $300 is the bare minimum for him to come out, i'm not sure, but he took less than twenty minutes to fix my roof. I wasn't home, but thanks to my Ring doorbell, I saw him climb on the roof at 12:00 and then climb down 12:05 and take the ladder away and not come back. While on the roof I saw him throwing the coupe damaged shingles down. At 11:45 he was not there, so sometime between 11:45 and 12:00 he showed up and was done by 12:05. Because of how quick he came out and how response he was, I am giving him the benefit of the doubt and believe he treated my job the same as he would anyone in the terms of cost. He may have even escalated my job above another because it was a small repair and it was during a few little rainy days. All I can really compare it to is the other repair men I have had come out in the various fields like plumbing, electrical and others and have an idea of what prices generally can run. My cynical side has noticed a pattern that if I am not home for the work then many tend to over charge the cost and I think that has to do with the lack of supervision and because I live in a decent home many see that as an opportunity and take advantage of that. Again, I am not saying they did that here. Only saying that $900 an hour ($300 for 20 minutes) seems a bit high for almost any field. I would not hesitate to call upon them again for work, I would just receive a few estimates.

The invoice was higher than the quote. When I asked why, they said they had to replace a rotten piece of roof decking. When I asked how there could be a rotten roof decking sheet under a new roof they had no answer for me. Either my new 50 year warranty roof is leaking or they put shingles over rotten decking to begin with. Best part... they keep telling me they'll come out and see what the problem is but they don't. Their solution was to add two turbines to prevent heat buildup and future damage. In late 2024, I discovered a leak in my kitchen ceiling. First Star immediately blamed my solar panels, but my solar company confirmed the leak was nowhere near their system. Soon after, another leak appeared in my living room ceiling where no panels exist. An independent roofer later confirmed that the attic ventilation was not properly addressed, the roof decking is compromised, and there are now five separate leaks. The results have been devastating: costly mold remediation, multiple ceiling repairs, and two years of mold-related health issues. This is exactly what I paid First Star to prevent. To make matters worse, I've called and emailed repeatedly--including to the Director of Operations and the owner--for over six weeks without a single response. First Star not only failed to deliver on their promises but left me with tens of thousands in damage. I would strongly warn others not to trust them with your home.
