This review is written based on my experience at Salt Tree within the mall…read more My daughter and I entered Salt Tree in search of her homecoming dress. We found two dresses that she liked and wanted to try on. I walked up to the counter and asked if someone could unlock the dressing room door. There was an Asian lady on the phone and a young Hispanic lady checking out a customer. Eventually the Asian women turned around and said she would unlock the door. She stood at the dressing room doorway while my daughter tried on her dresses. My daughter needed help zipping up her dress and wanted me to see how the dresses fit. Every time the dressing room door opened the worker turned around and watched us, making for an uncomfortable experience. My daughter got dressed and came out, as we approached the doorway of the dressing room entrance the lady immediately started reaching for the dresses and asked which one we were buying! I told her can we think about it first and why are we being rushed?! I said a matter of fact why were we being so closely watched? She immediately lied and said she watches everyone when they're in the dressing room. That was a complete LIE! I mentioned that she wasn't watching the other two ladies that were in the dressing room when I came to ask for a room. My daughter immediately said "that's ok mom I no longer want to buy a dress here!" She and I felt extremely uncomfortable and definitely rushed. Some would say it's because of so many thieves that they are on a high alert but I'm not buying that...the other women were Hispanic and we are BLACK! It's so unfortunate and disgusting that people behave this way. Racially profiling us and then lying about it! I will NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN!!!!

While there's no longer music that plays in the morning and the main street is now closed to…read moretraffic, Broadway Plaza is still one of my favorite places to be in Walnut Creek. There's a good mix of restaurants, clothing, and jewelry shops, most of which are high quality brands and the mall constantly stays fresh and vibrant although I do wish they had more restrooms outside of the ones below Industrious. Some weekends they have a maker fare or live music, but most of the time the fountain is just central to the comfortable seating area, that during the winter gets some decor for the holidays. All in all, I really do love this area and still find myself coming back year after year.

This review is ONLY about the changes to the way you pay for parking…read more The new parking app makes me never want to shop at Broadway Plaza ever again, and I've been shopping there since I was a girl in the 80s. There was a period of time when I probably shopped at Broadway Plaza 1-2 times PER MONTH (now I'm stuck paying off my credit cards but that's my own fault and a separate issue). What was wrong with the old system? It worked just fine. But now you have to download an app to get out of the parking garage, EVEN IF you were there for less than the three hours of courtesy parking. It's absolutely insane. And even worse, there's NO cell reception in the garage (at least with AT&T) so you can't download the app without returning to the open air mall. Maybe that's why they changed things up? So that for people who haven't been to Broadway Plaza since before the app was rolled out, they might be able to charge for more time? It's unbelievable. And... you have to enter a bunch of personal information. Why do I need to download an app to pay for parking after I've already shopped at the mall, potentially pushing one of the tenants over their percentage rent breakpoint? It's outrageous. I don't mind having the ParkMobile app for parking because it allows me to park on many different cities' streets with little to no hassle. So I'm not anti-parking app. I am anti-Metropolis parking app. At least before, you got a time-stamped ticket so you knew exactly when to leave if you wanted to avoid paying. Now you have to remember to check the precise time you entered the garage, assuming it's even time-stamping accurately. And how do you know precisely where it time-stamps you? Macerich, do better. Relegate this parking situation to the annals of retail hell. Thank you for your consideration. [curtsy]

It's a great spot for a group or a celebration. My only issue is that the food is inconsistent. I usually order the spicy jambalaya with champagne or a cocktail. More often than not, the shrimp seem undercooked, and the dim lighting makes it hard to tell. During my visit last night, the shrimp still looked gray and didn't appear fully cooked. The temperature of the dish was also all over the place some bites were hot, others were lukewarm, and some were room temperature. I'm not sure if it was an off night or a change in the kitchen, but this isn't the first time I've been disappointed with the food. I enjoy the atmosphere and service, but I'd really like to see more consistency coming out of the kitchen. The food should be just as good as the vibe.
