We were blessed to celebrate my daughter's wedding this past weekend. I had read a review on a local moms page and Eleanor Schain was highly recommended. My husband and I drove from Long Island to Brooklyn, and you should note one of the hottest dress shops is located in my town and I just wanted something new. Well the drive was so well worth it. From the moment I arrived to the warm welcome to trying on a huge selection of dresses, I found IT! I ordered the dress and it arrived in the store earlier than expected. I went in for my fitting and the seamstress was terrific. I then went in for my 2nd fitting, and from the 1st to the 2nd I had lost 40lbs. Well needless to say, Houston we have a problem...But we didn't. They told me not to worry but do not lose another pound! I went back for my 3rd fitting and only needing a slight adjustment in the waist it was perfect. The selection of gowns and dresses is tops. I've never seen so many styles that I loved. The dress I chose for my daughter's wedding was gorgeous. I loved how light it was and the style suited my figure well. I have never received so many compliments about what I was wearing before. Over and over the whole night, men and women told me how beautiful t gown was. But what I loved best was how accommodating the staff was. I was on crutches about 1 month before the wedding so we had to postpone the hemline fitting twice until I had a better understanding of what shoe I would be able to wear on the hurt foot. Bought a custom made dress for over $1500 for my daughters baptism. Zipper breaks the day of baptism and my hairstylist ends up sewing me into my dress. When I brought dress back to Eleanor Schain ltd. they felt really bad nd told me that they would fix it for no charge and that when I would come pick it up they would "take care of me" since I was such a good customer spending about $10k in past purchases. When I went back to pick up my fixed dress the saleswomen played dumb nd told me they had no idea that "take care of me " was ever said. They told me just pick something out that's on SALE nd they will give me a discount. The woman ends up giving me a $425 dress to try on and the owner tells me to just pay $225 as my discount. After spending all that money and having a horrible morning for my daughters baptism still wanted money from me. Seeing I was upset, the owner told me to just take the dress! (with an attitude). Their customer service was horrible! They figured since I wasn't spending the big bucks they didn't have to help me. I didn't take the dress and I would never step foot in that store again and neither will the other people I know who usually shop there. Everything is way overpriced and I am so upset with myself that I spent soooooo much money in the past! I wish I can bring back everything I ever purchased from them. A zipper on a $1500+ dress should not break! And if it does it should be compensated some way! Horrible way to run a business! read more

My mother purchased her dress for my wedding here and unfortunately the experience was horribly terrifying. My mom had purchased here before so she was sure things would be fine but that was not the case. She went in 7 months before the wedding and ordered a $5,500 dress. It was really beautiful, their entire collection is. However, the dress didn't arrive until 2 days before the wedding. My mother had a mastectomy and everyone was aware that there would have to be major work done on the dress and 2 days was just not enough. We spent months being panicked about when the dress would arrive to only have it arrive 2 days before and having to drop all other last minute wedding plans to be there multiple times a day to get it fitted. It was actually picked up the day of the wedding which left my mother completely exhausted with everything else we had going on. And on top of all of this... The dress was falling apart while my mother was wearing it. The dress was covered in beading and from the moment she put it on it was losing beads. It continued like that all night and by the end there were actual patches of material showing where the beads had fallen off. The most disheartening part about this whole situation was the lack of compassion from the people at Eleanor Schain. They blamed the entire situation on the designer and wanted no part in helping to rectify the mishap. When you are spending this kind I money, you expect some sort of customer service to go along with it. The 2 stars is for the beautiful dresses that they have, unfortunately, it's just not a place where you can expect any sort of respect. read more

Shopping for a dress for my 80 year old mother for her granddaughters wedding brought us to Eleanor Schain, expecting to find the same gowns we saw all in all the other stores our expectations were at very least mediocre. AND then there was LINDA !!!! My mother had an image of what she wanted which linda gave her and she loved it but Linda saw more for my mother and then her famous phrase "just do me a favor and try this" My mother agreed and came out of the dressing room an absolute ravishing beauty. I watched as she posed and twilled like a little girl brought tears to my eyes... Words cannot begin to express my gratitude. Linda rejuvenated the youth in my mother and proceeded to supply her with the most wonder wardrobe for our weekend of wedding festivities. read more

Several women suggested that I try this shop to find a dress for my daughters wedding . I was so stressed out about finding something in the right color, style and design. I was so awed with this shop! Met Valerie and in mins she took me to the back and together she pulled dresses to try on. She worked within my price range and as it turned out the dress I chose was a sample so not the most expensive of the dresses. I have to say I had a wonderful experience dealing with the girls at Eleanor Shain that I felt bad that when I picked up the dress cause it would be last time I'll see them for a while. They made me feel special and really changed the stress of the shopping experience for me. The clothes are just spectacular with one dress nicer than the other. So many great choices. Couture dresses. Non couture prices. There are sale racks from time to time where I found some great separates for 39.00! All designer all fabulous. My daughter's wedding was last Saturday night and I bought my gown from Eleanor Schain. What a truly great decision that was to buy from them. The nicest salesperson named Valerie helped me pick out the most exquisite gown for the occasion. I had been to so many other places on Long Island and the salespeople were very pushy and just trying to make a sale, even if meant you looked horrible in the clothing. Out of desperation I decided to drive into Brooklyn to Eleanor Schain. Valerie immediately sensed my taste and started bringing out one gown after another. They were all so beautiful and different that I had a hard time picking the "one". Valerie was very honest when it came to what looked good and didn't and it was such a refreshing quality. After I purchased the dress she even went above and beyond to make sure the extra bead work I hinted at was taken care of. What a great surprise that was. The owners, Bonnie and Andrea, are lovely to work with and have a great sense of taste. They carry high fashion couture looks and you won't see yourself coming and going. The dress I purchased was an Alex Teih. It was absolutely stunning and it made such a hit at the wedding. I received so many compliments that evening. The seamstress, Josephine, was amazing and worked with me until the dress fit just right. Shopping there is a great experience. Your gown will not be run of the mill! read more

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!! I called the store to explain what I was looking for and spoke with Linda, who was very polite on the phone. Having had recent surgery, I told her that I have difficulty walking (as does my 84 year old mom who was also making a purchase to wear at my son's wedding) and wanted to know if they could accommodate us. She stated that I should come in an hour before the store closed if I was making a purchase and assured me she would be able to help us find what we was looking for. When I arrived, I asked Linda to tend to my mom first but; she insisted she would prefer to help "the mother of the groom first." When I finally agreed, I asked her to point me in the right direction so I could look through their gowns and pick a few to try on. I was told that is not how they do things there and she kept insisting on a price range before she would show me anything. In other words, you cannot walk in and look through their inventory. They select gowns for you based on a price range. I explained that the price was not my focus but, rather finding something that looked wonderful on. After repeating myself several times, I declined any further help and asked Linda to help my mom. She did the same thing with her. We explained they were making us very uncomfortable and that we really just wanted to see what they had so WE COULD decide what we liked. Of course we left without looking at anything. Who wants to spend THOUSANDS of dollars (can you imagine) on something THEY CAN'T PICK OUT THEMSELVES?? And yes, I did say thousands because Linda did not mention anything that was less than a thousand to fifteen hundred dollars.This was a small store in a small strip mall; not a big name Manhattan store. It was clear this store caters to a particular "group" of people and if you are not in this group, they are not going to help you. Save yourself the time and aggravation... Years ago, I always went to Eleanor Schain when I needed a special dress for a special occasion. Recently I have been going there for everyday sportswear. All the sales women are excellent. They know their business and therefore know what styles will flatter me. I always feel like when I walk out of there, I look my best.. Sometimes when I am there, I see some customers being very difficult and I wonder how the staff can maintain a smile when confronted by such rudeness. Whenever I am out in one of the outfits I have purchased there I always get a compliment. As far as the seamstresses, they are excellent. Even when I do not recognize that a small adjustment needs to be done, they are there to make sure it fits to perfection! Most times I don't even bother to retry the item on. read more

This place gets no stars they have the worst customer service and horrible may I say horrible seemstress she butchered a $2,000 dress and they didn't even care!! The week before my sisters wedding I had to go and get a dress made almost costing me double! Their seemstress is absolutely the most horrifying human being the manager and owner do not know how to run a business or speak to people! They would not even attempt to refund at least half of my dress let alone charged my for half of my alterations which I can never wear this dress being its 3 inches too short and they completely botched up the top of the dress ! Mind you I also purchased another dress from them 3 weeks before you would think because I not only bought one but two dresses they would be a little nicer and accommodating I am in the service business and they definitely do not know how to service their customers horrible horrible the seemstress needs to go find a new profession read more
