Friendly service and always busy. Newer menu it seems. I got the Birria because I love Birria. Came with a guac salad (basically a bed of lettuce with a small scoop of guac and diced tomatoes with some sour cream) and a small little cup of consommé. Birria was double wrapped with small street sized corn tortillas but we're not really crispy. Usually you have a nice char that crisps up on the grill. No where near the amount of meat compared to other Birria places in town. The consommé however was flavorful and very good, just wish there was more of it. Probably won't order again. read more

My friends and I have been regular customers at El Vaquero for quite some time, which makes this review especially disappointing to write. During a recent visit, we were seated at the bar and served by Jose. What started as a casual conversation turned into an uncomfortable and persistent discussion about Catholicism. We respectfully shared that we are Christians and that we did not wish to continue discussing religion, but our requests were repeatedly ignored. Over the course of nearly an hour, Jose continued bringing up the topic despite multiple attempts to redirect the conversation. At one point, he came around the bar and repeatedly shoved his phone in our faces with Hail Marys after we had already asked him to stop. One of my friends even pulled him aside privately and politely asked him to drop the subject, but the conversation continued. What made the situation even more concerning was that he appeared to be drinking behind the bar while working. The experience became so uncomfortable that we left earlier than planned. Since then, we've felt unwelcome during subsequent visits and have noticed a significant change in how we're treated. We enjoy El Vaquero and have supported this restaurant for years, which is why this experience was so disappointing. Customers should be able to enjoy a meal without feeling pressured into religious discussions after clearly expressing that they are not interested. I truly hope that moving forward with us and other customers that religion and politics are left out of the topic at a bar top. read more

The food was great. It was right next door to our hotel Pacer Inn and Suites (they offered a 10% discount). I have to be gluten free and the staff was knowledgeable and helped me find suitable options. We enjoyed the atmosphere. And I enjoyed a bottle of Mexican coke. read more

Went here on a Friday night with a few old friends. It was decently busy, but the service was nice and very attentive. Didn't have a wait time either although we did go before most dinner rushes would occur. I eat vegetarian so I personally like the vegetable fajitas and this time tried the avocadilla with a side of beans and rice to add on. The food is always very filling, generous in portion sizes, and tasty. I think I like fajitas better as they're more variety, but the avocadilla was still very good. One had a platter that was much too big for her to finish so if you aren't used to a lot of food then I would advise bringing a tupoerware box (I think the take out boxes there are Styrofoam if I recall correctly). As many Mexican places do, they leaned heavily into the theme so it was very colorful, inviting, and cozy compared to modern or industrial. read more

This Mexican joint is Bomb! We had two incredible dinners, my wife had a chili relleno and enchilada and I had the carne asada with grilled onions. The margarita was tasty and my Modelo was ice cold. Fresh hot chips not greasy at all and the house salsa was really fresh as well. Fast service and very nice server. This is definitely a nice Mexican eatery in Delaware. We will be back. Very expensive waited 20 min never got chips or salsa but brought out cheese dip before anything. I asked for chips and salsa 3 times.

Just tried this for the first time the other day. It was just ok. it seems pretty expensive for lunch prices and we didn't seem to get much food. It indicated on the menu the lunches came with beans and rice, guacamole and sour cream in the top description, however i did not get any guacamole or sour cream on mine. I would have asked the server about it but he didn't come around much. We had to ask another server for more chips. I ran out of water then just had to drink my husbands. Not sure we would go back. We stayed at the hotel attached to this place and after reading a few Yelp reviews tried it for dinner. The reviews were mixed, some good some bad. It was convenient so we gave it a try. I felt better when we saw how busy the place was, a good sign. We love Mexican food. Authentic and Americanized Mexican we have tried many places. Almost always parts of the meal are good. Food was really good! I got the chicken fajitas with guacamole side. I love their tortilla chips with salsa. The chips taste so fresh and come warm. I also ordered a frozen like margarita with salt on the rim. Came really fast to my table which was outside on the patio. I visited on a Sunday around 8 PM. The waitress told me i could sit outside, gave me a menu and just let me go out to seat myself. Only issue, she didnt tell me where to go out at so that was odd and confusing if you have never been there you wouldnt know you had to go through, what looked like the kitchen/staff only area, to get outside to sit yourself. They were really empty inside and most people were seated outside on the patio but, my waitress never would come out to check on me. I ordered my food at the same time I ordered my drink because i already knew what i wanted. I would hope in the future they would check their guests for drink refills and also i really needed napkins the whole meal and couldnt get even one. This was our first time here and it didn't disappoint. We moved up here from Dallas Texas in March and have had a hard time finding a good Mexican place. We found our place! I had the fajita quesadilla, which was delicious! It was enough for two people. Everything was cooked just right and the rice and beans were also perfect. During happy hour, which they have everyday, their tall beers are 3.25. Overall price is reasonable for the amount of food you get. Can't wait to go back! read more

We usually come to this Vaqueros and have previously had great experiences here. Today, apparently nobody decided to show up and work. We've been sitting without chips and salsa doe 15 minutes, our cheese dip and bean dip are now cold, and I even took the empty basket of chips up to the bar and the server just took it and said, "I'm busy. Oh, do you want some more?" Half of our food came out cold, and we're still waiting for the other half. We won't be back here, as it's been a complete waste of time and money. read more

Looking for bland microwave food? Than this is your spot!! While the menu is large it comes with the cost of not having anything good on it. The salsa is tasteless. The staff is rude. They can do large groups but who wants to eat warm cat food? The margaritas as good and strong but I am convinced that is too trick you into thinking the food has flavor! First time and last time dining here. The server was completely rushed and inattentive. Perhaps they're under staffed, but the service is among the worst I've ever had. Ordered guacamole dip as an appetizer & it never arrived. My husband is a vegetarian and he tried to ask questions about the vegetarian entrees, but was unable to communicate with our server, so he ordered a meal he was thoroughly disappointed with. My carnitas was tough, dry and hard to chew. Heard the table behind us complain that their steak was too tough to chew. My husband had no knife and fork so he had to eat his burrito with a spoon. The server was never at our table long enough to even ask, "Hey, where's my guacamole & by the way, could we get some silverware?" I just got the shrimp fajitas last night. It's enough for two people and only costs $20 with the extra tortillas (so you get 6 instead of 3). They were fabulous! Sauteed peppers, mushrooms, onions and tomatoes with a lot of shrimp. And there is a seperate container with toppings: refried beans, rice, shredded lettuce and a little pico de guillo. They also give you separate containers of guacamole and sour cream. Plus, you get free chips & salsa. Very filling and a great healthy meal. They make it fast so you can place an order to go and don't have to wait. We're definitely eating takeout from here on our weekly mexican night from now on! Ole! read more

They were slow, it literally took them a good 30 minutes just to put on quesadilla in front of me, and it wasn't even a holiday so they were just slow. The waiter was awful, he would just grab things out of your hands and not ask you he just took, I had my hand inside the chip basket (literally free chips is the only thing good about this restaurant, but the salsa sucks) and he just grabbed it from me. When we got the food it was pretty good, but of course the one thing that i'm paying extra for was forgot and took another 10 minutes for the waiter to get, I didn't know one cup of sour cream would be so hard to get. Overall though the food was good, but just an FYI everything is overpriced it's ridiculous. In most situations people say you get what you pay for, well that doesn't happen here. read more
