" Horrible " The worst Mexican food I had , in Boston ma . Not even the avocado is fresh ; it comes out of a jar and it's nasty . The meat Inside the tacos tasted stale and was of low quality. You can also taste the cheap oil they made the taco with . Not even my dog wanted to eat the meat , not even joking . A waste of money since the food had to be thrown out . read more

Honestly this place has the BEST quesadillas in Boston hands down. The first time I got it I was drunk so I had to try it again and I did the next day. Still amazing. Yes I'm that person who places an order at 11 am to get a quesadillas. Huge portions I got mines worth shrimp, the shrimp is juicy, the cheeses are thick. And it's cheap too less than 12 bucks for that big of portion. The rice and beans are also amazing, beautifully seasoned and cooked. I literally dream of this place and will continue to order from here forever. Shrimp Quesadilla read more

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE. My wife ordered several dishes from El Triunfo via Uber Eats and was delivered a concoction of things that could be barely characterized as "food." Let's start with the things that were barely edible. We ordered $35 chicken fajitas and it was ridiculously overpriced. Perhaps we were the fools for ordering expensive chicken in the first place, but the strangely colored, unappetizing seasoning of the meats made this not even fitting for a dog. The slaw that they provided came in a ridiculous zip-lock sandwich bag. I mean, where the heck provides food in a plastic bag? My wife described it as a an "elementary school child's chemistry project." Did not help that the one bite we took of it tasted like barf. I think the most popular picture on the Yelp page is of raw fritters. That should have been a warning sign, and shame on us I guess for ordering them. The fritters were so raw that we were basically spitting out puffs of flour (okay, an exaggeration, but very raw nonetheless). At first bite, we thought it was a cheesy filling, but after we began to feel some nausea, it was clear to us that the fritters were not thoroughly fried. When we tried calling the restaurant, they turned the blame around on us and insisted that the food was completely "boiled" and could not have been raw. First of all, there is no way you are frying these things in boiling water, so clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. They claimed the gooey texture was "cheese," but feta cheese DOES NOT MELT LIKE THAT. Secondly, it was highly inappropriate for them to point the finger at us and blame us for lying. Why would we call a restaurant at 2 in the morning and complain about raw dough? None of us were even drinking, so there's no way we could have made a mistake (as they seemed to be implying). My wife tried to fry it again on the skillet, but gave up because the fritters were becoming so disgusting. Long story short, this place is complete trash and should be avoided. You can check my Yelp review records and you'll see I very rarely write one star reviews, but this place definitely "earned" it. * The photo of the fritter is AFTER my wife tried to cook it. You can see that it is still RAW on the inside. read more

Went in the store day before and ordered a taco bar for 15 people. Party for little less than $200 and everyone got a generous amount of tacos plus some people just made a burrito bowl. Although it was taco bar for 15, felt like ingredients for 25. I personally ate 4 tacos, but some people get 6. But some only ate 2. But otherwise was a lot of fun and a great way to celebrate national taco day! Taco bar included: A tray of steak (was the best) A tray of chicken (very flavorful) A tray of corn tortillas A tray of pico de Gallo A tray of chopped lettuce 2 containers of Guacamole 2 containers of sour cream 2 containers of cheese 1 container of hot sauce 1 container of jalapeño 1 container of chopped onions read more

I've never been to this restaurant but I was in the area craving Mexican food. I ordered a steak quesadilla and it came with chips and homemade guacamole. The guacamole was actually very delicious; I'm usually not a fan... The steak had great flavoring and was cooked nice and tender. The space is very small so there's no room to dine in but they do offer delivery if you are unable to pick up your food. The women working at the counter were welcoming. read more

Food is very good, but they can't handle requests to remove or change ingredients. 9 times out of 10 they have not followed special instructions given at ordering, and it's the same when you use delivery services or call them directly. Grab-and-go loaded taco box (3 with your choice of protein, rice and beans) for ~$11. It's plenty o' stuff for short bills, especially in the face of the "$5 street taco" onslaught. Cool tortillas, triple deckered before a hearty layer of barbacoa, ground beef or marinated chicken (I sampled one of each), cheese, lettuce, guac, crema and hot sauce. Pickled jalapeños also come standard, so if you're puny of palate, ask for them on the side. Pansy. I liked the meal just fine, if only suggesting steps be taken to keep the meat moist and more evenly seasoned. A few tables in the space next to the counter, should you need to sit and eat; otherwise, a decent lunch option for the midday rush. read more

For the second time, incredibly disappointed with take out from El triunfo. It arrived 15 minutes later than estimated, and the zucchini fritters (made with batter containing raw eggs) were liquid in the middle. Looking for a late night spot after a night of some fun on the town? Then here you go. A friend told me about this place based on the fact that it is open late. I've only gotten their chicken burrito. Really tasty and the price is average. My friends have tried their tacos, which they say are really delicious. The service is quick and the staff are friendly. I plan to try their tacos the next time I go. Would recommend this place. read more

Fantastic Burrito! Quality ingredients, prepared quickly, good price and friendly service! Thank you!

I have come here countless times on my work lunch breaks. They give you ALL the toppings you want - not charging extra for guacamole like other places. Everything tastes fresh and is delicious! Came here to grab a quick bite to eat on the suggestion of a friend. The restaurant had a seating area and a kitchen area where food is ordered, which confused me at first when I walked into the seating area and tried to find a place to order! Anyways, the food was delicious and aesthetic, the service was very friendly, and the service was fast! Overall, a great little place for something delicious and fast. I got their chicken quesadilla and it came with all the fixings like salsa, an obscene amount of cheese, and guacamole! Their portion size for the quesadilla isn't necessarily the best bang for your buck, but the flavor is spot on; and as a final note the food wasn't oily at all like some other places with Mexican fare! read more

El Triunfo - Chicken quesadilla! - Mexican Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

I've been to this place for lunch on a few occasions. What follows is the true story of my experiences. Day 1: ordered the most disappointing chicken burrito of my life. Bland. Bland, bland bland. Pico de gallo is very chunky, which I am not personally a huge fan of, but some people may like. Day 2: Decided to try again. Ordered falafel quesadilla. Sounds strange but tastes like you always wanted a falafel quesadilla to taste! Also very cheap. Their falafel is delicious. It's firm and crunchy and appears to have red pepper flakes inside it so it has a little kick to it. Day 3: What are pupusas? I set out to find the answer. They are palm-sized corn pockets of tasty cheese. They're also very cheap (less than $2 each) and come with good hot sauce. Also ordered bean salad which is quite hearty but had too much pico de gallo and guac for my taste. Beans had great flavor though. Overall, this place is pretty delicious, except for the burrito. read more

This place is great! The staff is some of the hardest working people I've seen. They are all really kind, and they always get the food out super fast! The food is good! Coming from SoCal it is hard to find tacos on the east coast that are edible compared to out there... but these ones are pretty good! Always a good experience. This place is a treasure! Between Washington and Harrison, on Berkeley, next Foley's. I've lived in the area 10 years now, and watched this place grow from it's earliest beginnings - really good food, El Salvadoran style (though run by a Turkish father and son team - go figure!) Any 'customer service problems' described are probably due to a language barrier - the (Turkish) owners are extremely nice once you get to know them - they only appear to be surly - say hi and be friendly! - and they will be too. They have given me extra food, told me to pay next time if I am a couple dollars short, etc. - and the folks behind the counter all speak Spanish and are great to chat with. VERY limited for seating - best for take-out. It's fast, cheap, and excellent food. Great for lunch, also for late night mini-dinner. I think open til 11:00PM. Chicken burrito is to die for! read more

El Triunfo - Steak Burrito Plate - Mexican Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

Unquestionably a hole in the wall, this little South End gem is tucked away on Berkeley St. behind a graffiti-ed fascade. It's within walking distance for me, but why walk when they deliver the goods? The burritos are fantastic. When asked if you want it with everything, do yourself a favor and reply in the affirmative. Most everything wrapped in that tortilla is standard but they use a magically spicy sauce and jalapenos to distinguish. This El Salvadorian place also has authentic pupusas, spicy quesadillas, and the El Triunfo special (you'll just have to try it). Most everything on the menu is surprisingly cheap - a pupusa will set you back less than a T ride. Forget Ana's, Boca Grande, and Boloco. The Triumph wins. read more

El Triunfo is a definite win in the cheap eats category. With a basic, no-frills menu, tons of Jarritos in the fridge and literally three counter seats facing the street, this cute hole-in-the-wall joint offers a lot for very little. With an empty belly and an eager appetite for trying a new place, I placed an order for a large chicken burrito and it was made right there in front of me, ready with the quickness, for about $7.50, with my soda. I'd only realize after I was done how full $7.50 could actually get me! To be honest, the first few bites left me unimpressed. A dry, bland flavor prevailed and I sat wondering, bite after bite, what brought this place such delicious-sounding local lore. The more bites I took, the closer I was to realizing! All of the magically spicy sauce, jalapenos and guacamole were stuck at the bottom of my burrito, bursting onto my palette during the last few bites. Oh but were those bites everything I'd been looking for in a burrito. Hot, stuffed with all the goodness, making ever forget names like Chipotle. I dig the homemade vibe, the kick of the hot sauce and the option to get black beans, but the construction on this burrito itself was all off and it left me turned off by the first half, but loving the last! Now if only the entire burrito could have tasted like those precious last bites, El Triunfo would rival my pick for numero uno burrito joint in town: Villa Mexico. read more

Dude. Yes! Yes to El Triunfo. I just started working for a new company and I'm faced with having to learn where to get good food around here. Correction: good CHEAP food because I bring my own my lunch maybe 4 times a week. But they're all like Taco Bell: same ingredients, different execution. So i eat lunch out every now again. I digress, but I'm gonna do it again right quick. So everyone tries to tell me Anna's makes the best burritos. And I tolerated that because it is more authentic than, say, Taco Bell. But I'm TIRED of that friggin' black bean waste water that makes my burrito a friggin' drippin' mess. "Clean your act up, burrito," I say as I soak up that shit with a napkin. Is it so hard to get a slotted spoon and let it drain for TWO seconds? End digression. So I tried out El Triunfo today. It was suggested on here that I get the steak burrito with everything and by God am I glad I did that. It wasn't too big but just right. But I admit maybe it was big and I couldn't tell cuz I went drinking last night and hangovers for me just mean I get ravenous and eat everything in sight. But this burrito did the trick and it didn't leak that black bean waste water. And the steak was tender. And it had jalapeos, rice, cheese, lettuce and salsa on it. And I ordered it without all the anxiety Anna's gives me (cuz they move too fast and then they charge me for condiments I didn't order). My point is this: stop telling me anna's is the best cuz it ain't, homie. And if you happen to be in this little area, check out El Triunfo. read more

Oh El Triunfo, how I love thee. This place is a hundred, no, a thousand, no, a MILLION times better than lame-ass Anna's. And, it's ran by the coolest dudes ever. The burritos are large, tasty, and, best of all, easy on the wallet. This is truly (warning... cliche coming up) the hidden gem of the south end. It is located in a pretty sketch part of town, but as long as you don't mind stepping over a drunk homeless dude or a recent Pine Street Inn drop out, you are in for a treat. And, yes, JJ's will totally let you bring your burrito in and scarf it down there. This is good because El Triunfo has about three two-seat tables (actually maybe only two). Also, if you are adventorous try some of the crazy imported sodas- I love the Sangria one :-) read more

Another hidden South End gem! Decent Mexican food is hard to come by in Boston; this is one of the few places to find it. I think it is, anyway; I don't think I've ever eaten there sober, so I may not be the best judge. But when you're over at JJ Foley's and you suddenly realize that what started out as happy hour is turning into all night and if you don't eat something you're gonna end up in jail, El Triunfo is a godsend. Serves your basic burritos and stuff, and the staff are incredibly cool. Be warned: it closes earlier than you'd like it to. I can't remember the exact time - again, drunk - but it's right about five minutes before you realize you're hungry. They're so cool that they might let you in and feed you anyway if you look desperate enough. read more

The customer service wasn't that great, I've never ordered from here before and I didn't have a menu handy, I wanted to add some things that I didn't know they didn't offer and the order taek was super rude about it and not helpful. I got a shrimp burrito, it was very good and flavorful made well, It wasn't falling apart as I ate it which was good. There was zucchini mixed in the rice, which was a first in a burrito to me but I enjoyed it. I would order from here again if I was In the area, they have an extensive menu, make sure you look at it before you place your order. just know the service isn't going to be the best but the food will be pretty good. read more

If El Triunfo doesn't have a slogan yet, may I suggest one? "Food so good you'll need a cigarette afterward." Word. Karlis and I stopped here late one night a few weeks ago after an evening spent at Shecky's Girls Night Out (shut up). We were starving, as apparently the organizers of Shecky's thought that girls didn't eat and we'd spent the past 3 hours hovering around the Cabot Cheese booth. Thus we headed to El Triunfo to counteract the influence of fruity vodka, Chambord and mojito-in-a-bottle (yuck). El Triunfo is indeed a hole in the wall, complete with a low ceiling. I ordered the chicken burrito and gringa-fied it: no sour cream, no guac, no hot sauce (for shame). The staff was friendly and fast, and the prices were certainly doable. Our burritos came up crazy-fast, too, and we were even fortunate enough to catch the bus to Copley. There we munched happily on our burritos, and all was right with the world. El Triunfo, you have a new fan. It might be high time for me to take an extra long lunch one of these days and head up there for a well-deserved treat. read more

Trying to find a doctor's office, I happened to walk past a smal hole in the wall Mexican joint. Looks right up my alley. After the doc, I meandered back over to El Triunfo to try out their Mexican. One thing that hit me as weird was that there were 2 doors (I think). One door went into what looked like a now defunct dining room, the other was where the cooks were. Did the attempt to have table service go bad? I walked in the door- dark and small shop, no seating area, cute painted menu and...a cooler. A cooler with regular old coke, water and my all time fave- Pina Jarritos. Ok, big points already with me. The counter gal made my burritto exactly as I wanted it all with a smile. Burrittos come with chicken, steak, carnitas or shrimp and the toppings include cheese, sour cream, guac, jalapenos, hot sauce, rice beans- WOW! $8 and I was on my way home to enhoy my burritto. Decent, solid, nice are good words for it. Not extraordinary. But for the price and the ease, I'll take it. read more

Mmmm. Burritos. This place is right around the corner from my office. It's close, it's fast, it's cheap, and it's good. And the people who work there are so very nice. It's just a little place, and they just remodeled. Best for take out as there's barely anywhere to sit. We're in there often enough that they know what we want and how we take it. Yeah, if you go at the lunch rush, the line is likely to be out the door, but you'll move pretty quickly. Stop in, say hola, and get the steak burrito (with everything and black beans). Edit 7/17/07: Stopped in for lunch today, and prices have gone up. Now $5 (up from $3.75) for the small and $5.95 (up from $4.95) for the large. Other prices up as well. El Triunfo is simply a godsend. Ever since I started stopping here for my usual Taco combo dinner take out and sometimes the Pupusa combo or anything else for that matter - on mostly odd very late Saturday nights or post football Sunday evenings, my weekend evenings feel almost incomplete if I am in the area and I don't get my usual grub from here. This place for me - it epitomizes everything that I seek when it comes to a simple - post night out food. I like this place because it: 1. is no frills 2. is open late 3. serves food for night owls who need something to munch on after a weekend night out. 4. is cheap 5. is run by hardworking and very down to earth people 6. has some of the best Mexican - El Salvadorian food that I have had, anywhere outside of East Boston neighborhood The guys working here have so got used to me dropping in when I usually do - these days they simply ask - "same thing? Taco Combo?" And the very happy me - all I have to say is - "Yes Please! Thanks a bunch!!" So everything I mentioned in my previous review about El Triunfo still holds good. I just had to come and update the rating and add another shiny star and make this place officially my all time favorite place for take out, when out and about in South End! Rain or Shine or Snow - there's no place I'd rather go. I Love it! 5 stars all the way. read more

I've never been blown away by the food at El Triunfo, but with limited delivery options at BMC, I have learned to deal with it. Burritos are somewhat tasteless, but I enjoyed the burrito plate (a "naked" burrito) because I can construct the perfect ratio of sour cream, guac, and salsa in each bite. I would avoid the carnitas and stick with chicken... carnitas were very dry. There rice is ehhhh, but after reading reading reviews, I'm definitely going to try the flautas next time. Side note: it just does not seem all that sanitary. I've never found anything wrong with my food, I just don't like the look of the inside of the joint. Reminds me of a nasty subway chain or something. read more
