Honestly this place has the BEST quesadillas in Boston hands down. The first time I got it I was drunk so I had to try it again and I did the next day. Still amazing. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE. My wife ordered several dishes from El Triunfo via Uber Eats and was delivered a concoction of things that could be barely characterized as "food." Let's start with the things that were barely edible. We ordered $35 chicken fajitas and it was ridiculously overpriced. Perhaps we were the fools for ordering expensive chicken in the first place, but the strangely colored, unappetizing seasoning of the meats made this not even fitting for a dog. The slaw that they provided came in a ridiculous zip-lock sandwich bag. I mean, where the heck provides food in a plastic bag? My wife described it as a an "elementary school child's chemistry project." Did not help that the one bite we took of it tasted like barf. I think the most popular picture on the Yelp page is of raw fritters. That should have been a warning sign, and shame on us I guess for ordering them. The fritters were so raw that we were basically spitting out puffs of flour (okay, an exaggeration, but very raw nonetheless). At first bite, we thought it was a cheesy filling, but after we began to feel some nausea, it was clear to us that the fritters were not thoroughly fried. When we tried calling the restaurant, they turned the blame around on us and insisted that the food was completely "boiled" and could not have been raw. First of all, there is no way you are frying these things in boiling water, so clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. They claimed the gooey texture was "cheese," but feta cheese DOES NOT MELT LIKE THAT. Secondly, it was highly inappropriate for them to point the finger at us and blame us for lying. Why would we call a restaurant at 2 in the morning and complain about raw dough? None of us were even drinking, so there's no way we could have made a mistake (as they seemed to be implying). My wife tried to fry it again on the skillet, but gave up because the fritters were becoming so disgusting. Long story short, this place is complete trash and should be avoided. The restaurant had a seating area and a kitchen area where food is ordered, which confused me at first when I walked into the seating area and tried to find a place to order! I've been to this place for lunch on a few occasions. What follows is the true story of my experiences. Day 1: ordered the most disappointing chicken burrito of my life. Bland. Bland, bland bland. Pico de gallo is very chunky, which I am not personally a huge fan of, but some people may like. Day 2: Decided to try again. Ordered falafel quesadilla. Sounds strange but tastes like you always wanted a falafel quesadilla to taste! Also very cheap. Their falafel is delicious. It's firm and crunchy and appears to have red pepper flakes inside it so it has a little kick to it. Day 3: What are pupusas? I set out to find the answer. They are palm-sized corn pockets of tasty cheese. They're also very cheap (less than $2 each) and come with good hot sauce. Also ordered bean salad which is quite hearty but had too much pico de gallo and guac for my taste. Beans had great flavor though. I've lived in the area 10 years now, and watched this place grow from it's earliest beginnings - really good food, El Salvadoran style (though run by a Turkish father and son team - go figure!) Any 'customer service problems' described are probably due to a language barrier - the (Turkish) owners are extremely nice once you get to know them - they only appear to be surly - say hi and be friendly! - and they will be too. They have given me extra food, told me to pay next time if I am a couple dollars short, etc. - and the folks behind the counter all speak Spanish and are great to chat with. VERY limited for seating - best for take-out. It's fast, cheap, and excellent food. Great for lunch, also for late night mini-dinner. I think open til 11:00PM. It's within walking distance for me, but why walk when they deliver the goods? The burritos are fantastic. When asked if you want it with everything, do yourself a favor and reply in the affirmative. Most everything wrapped in that tortilla is standard but they use a magically spicy sauce and jalapenos to distinguish. This El Salvadorian place also has authentic pupusas, spicy quesadillas, and the El Triunfo special (you'll just have to try it). With a basic, no-frills menu, tons of Jarritos in the fridge and literally three counter seats facing the street, this cute hole-in-the-wall joint offers a lot for very little. A dry, bland flavor prevailed and I sat wondering, bite after bite, what brought this place such delicious-sounding local lore. The more bites I took, the closer I was to realizing! The burritos are large, tasty, and, best of all, easy on the wallet. This is truly (warning... cliche coming up) the hidden gem of the south end. It is located in a pretty sketch part of town, but as long as you don't mind stepping over a drunk homeless dude or a recent Pine Street Inn drop out, you are in for a treat. And, yes, JJ's will totally let you bring your burrito in and scarf it down there. This is good because El Triunfo has about three two-seat tables (actually maybe only two). Another hidden South End gem! Decent Mexican food is hard to come by in Boston; this is one of the few places to find it. I think it is, anyway; I don't think I've ever eaten there sober, so I may not be the best judge. But when you're over at JJ Foley's and you suddenly realize that what started out as happy hour is turning into all night and if you don't eat something you're gonna end up in jail, El Triunfo is a godsend. Serves your basic burritos and stuff, and the staff are incredibly cool. Be warned: it closes earlier than you'd like it to. Trying to find a doctor's office, I happened to walk past a smal hole in the wall Mexican joint. Looks right up my alley. After the doc, I meandered back over to El Triunfo to try out their Mexican. One thing that hit me as weird was that there were 2 doors (I think). One door went into what looked like a now defunct dining room, the other was where the cooks were. Did the attempt to have table service go bad? I walked in the door- dark and small shop, no seating area, cute painted menu and...a cooler. Cool tortillas, triple deckered before a hearty layer of barbacoa, ground beef or marinated chicken (I sampled one of each), cheese, lettuce, guac, crema and hot sauce.
