Toro Steakhouse opened recently on River Street in the former Dario's (moved downtown). The place is pretty rustic with old school red brick tile floors, wood booths, brick face walls, and a few seats up at the bar. The menu offers steaks, chicken, short ribs, lobster ravioli, salads, desserts, kids menu and a drink menu. The entree prices range $26-$75 (22 oz Cowboy Ribeye). I stopped in here just before 5pm before the place started to get busy. I took a seat up at the bar with a great view of the open hot foods preparation area with grill and gas stove. The 2 cooks were certainly very busy grilling meats and preparing lobster ravioli dishes on the stove. I was given menus to look over.  I started out with some cold water (big glass bottle of water with glass) and given a piece of buttered sweet corn bread. Next, the Wedge Salad ($14 plus tax), a quarter iceberg lettuce wedge, raw onions, crisp prosciutto, gorgonzola crumbles, Bleu cheese dressing and grape tomatoes. The salad was pretty good and fresh. For dinner, the Braised Short Rib ($26 plus tax) served with choice of potato (chose roasted potatoes) and choice of vegetable (chose spinach). I watch my food being prepared on the grill from my bar seat. The good sized short rib was very soft and tender with minimal fat, topped with carrot, butter, & seasonings. The roasted potatoes with skins were very good and the steamed spinach (small portion) was standard. For dessert, the Bread Pudding ($10 plus tax) was a good size piece topped with caramel sauce & a scoop of vanilla ice cream, fresh strawberries & whipped cream, mint leaf on the side, powdered sugar sprinkled on the rectangular plate. The bread pudding however was barely warm so the ice cream did not melt. I did request a box for the rest of the bread pudding. The check with tax and before tip was $53.13. Overall, the food here was good and the service at the bar was prompt. By the time I was leaving, the place became very busy, all customers walking in had table reservations.  I enjoyed watching the cooks in action from my seat and I thought about getting Lobster Ravioli before deciding on short ribs since i was at a steakhouse. I watched the cooks grill the meats and they season and butter the steaks before serving off. I also watched them prepare the lobster ravioli entrees, boiling the raviolis quickly then tossing into the hot Pernod cream sauce in separate skillets with basil, grape tomatoes, fresh spinach, leeks, and lobster meat. I can definitely make this tasty dish at home, but I use Tuscan Kitchen fresh raviolis and sauces and vegetables from my local Market Basket.

Great prime rib. We had three prime ribs all cooked differently and they were all perfectly done

Awesome prime rib. Check it out. Great service. Are three orders were perfectly cooked to our request. The fresh veg sides were all awesome. They even made a special dish for my dog white rice with grilled chicken. Great service. Great whiskey bar also.

Sitting at the bar looking over the menu, the atmosphere had that comfortable local feel that makes you want to stay awhile. I ordered a margarita while waiting for my food, and the staff was incredibly friendly and social, they made me feel like a regular from the moment I walked in. My order came out quickly and was packaged carefully, which made it perfect for traveling. I chose the steak tips and shrimp cocktail special with two sides, and everything was excellent. The steak tips were tender and cooked perfectly, and even in a to-go container the shrimp cocktail was beautifully presented and tasted very fresh. Overall, it was a fantastic experience with great food and genuinely welcoming service.

The food is fantastic! Their meatball appetizer alone was better than the entire meal we ate in my last review. The Reuben sandwich was perfect, and the mac and cheese with brisket was so good, I ate it until I almost died (happy). It had more of an American cheese flavor, with rotini. Brisket was smokey, sauced, and chopped making it easy to eat. Every single thing we ordered the past few times was delicious and flavorful. Great, now I have no idea what to order. I want one of everything! Prices may be a bit steep for some, but 100% worth it. We are always too full for the ice cream. Many flavors. Plenty of parking. Service staff are excellent. Fast and friendly. I hope they never change.

This most recent visit, however, was a total disaster. We went SPECIFICALLY for the seafood chowder that was advertised as a special and we went at 5:15pm because the couple we were with said the service is terrible and gets worse as the evening goes on. Most of the tables were occupied but there was an opening and we were seated after a few minutes. Before we sat, we asked if they still had seafood chowder and were assured they did. The table was bare. About 10 minutes later, the waitress brought salads. (We hadn't ordered our meals yet.) A few minutes later, she brought a carafe of water and 4 red Solo cups to the table. We still had not ordered and had no silverware or dressing for the salads. We were finally given a carafe of dressing for the salads that gets passed from table to table. How sanitary is that? Still no silverware to eat the salads we were given but hadn't ordered. The owner was walking around chatting while the single waitress was fighting tears and trying to do everything herself. How shameful - the owner could have cleared and set the empty tables and done whatever she could to help this poor overwhelmed young girl. Now at 5:45 she came to take our order. Two of us were getting the seafood chowder for dinner, the other two ordered it for an appetizer. Still no utensils. She came back after 10 minutes to tell us they were out of the chowder. That was the reason we went there. So, at 6pm (45 minutes after arriving) we left without eating which we couldn't have done anyway without utensils. My heart breaks for the waitress and I am appalled that the owner didn't help her at all. We will not be returning. If there was an option to leave a negative star review, I would have done so, but one star is the lowest option available.
