It was my first time eating at El Torrito in Riverside. My sister just graduated college and we wanted to celebrate. Thank goodness we came across this restaurant. It was a little busy but we didn't have to wait long to be seated, which was very nice. Especially since it was a Friday night. I never go out my way to write bad reviews I just let things be but I just want to leave this review because I don't want anyone getting sick like I did especially a child, I had their happy hour salmon tacos I ate one put the rest in the box because something didn't seem right a hour later I was throwing up and sick couldn't eat nothing, I went to my doctor and they told me I got food poisoning . Came to Sunday Brunch on 1/14/24. Highly recommend making reservations- we were seated within 10 minutes of our time slot. Walk in Wait seemed to be up to 1 hour and a half, yikes! Food was great, lots of different options and high quality especially for a buffet. The atmosphere was vibrant and loud. What is better than having some corn cake with my favorite jam blasting full volume?! Do not come if you're not ready to have FUN! Best part of our visit was our waiter Victor P! Went to El Torito restaurant in Riverside yesterday. I noticed at the front desk a sign regarding a 3.99% surcharge for labor ( see attached photo). It seemed very odd to me. If their costs have gone up and they need to raise prices, why not just raise prices like other business's do? What's the reason for a separate charge? We question this when we were being seated. The server told us if we request the surcharge be removed, they will remove it from the bill. When the bill came there was a 3.99% surcharge. I said nothing and gave the server my credit card expecting to pay the 3.99%. When the server returned I was handed a revised bill with the sur-charge removed. We never asked for the charge be removed. We only asked about it. Maybe the surcharge is more of a political statement by El Torito of their disapproval of the new labor laws? read more

Rude manager. Food was great and my waitress was great as well. However, while eating I noticed that Jocelyn one of the managers spoke rudely to our waitress. I understand that there are tasks that need to be done but our waitress was clearly very busy and then was almost yelled at by Jocelyn. Not cool. If you're gonna talk to your staff at least do it away from the costumers. read more

I came the day before Veterans Day, since the restaurant is allowing us Veterans to come get a free meal. I ordered chicken nachos which were tasty. Also, for the free meal, it was chili rellenos and a tamale. BrOOklyn was my server and she was very nice. I came here alone and my server treated me with the same attention as if I was with a group. Just wanted to leave my review because i loveeeeeee happy hours here in el torito but mostly this riverside location, my husband and I have gone to the one in corona and ontario and the vibes just aint it. This location tho definitely beautiful bar area and the bartenders are so nice especially Brandon. This is probably the 3rd or 4th time coming to this El Torito. Tonight was worth posting a review. Our server Vicente was amazing. Our drinks were never empty and everything went smoothly. The service was great and the food was delicious. The bacon-wrapped shrimp are mouth-watering. I wish it was more than just 4 shrimp in the order. The house margaritas on the rock are their best in my opinion. My son gave them 2 thumbs up on the dessert. He had the kid's meal with soft shredded beef tacos. The meat had a spicy kick to it. This is not the El Torito my family once loved. The service is less than desirable. We waited for nearly an hour to receive our food. We ended up canceling a large part of the order. The waiter kept disappearing for long periods of time and when we asked him repeatedly about the food he kept making excuses. There was a time when you didn't finish your appetizers before the entrees were hitting the table hot, delicious and ready. Our waiter was either overwhelmed with the number of tables or just too distracted. The manager was on the phone and never available to talk to according to the waiter. Definitely a disappointment for such a once exceptional favorite! Update: I checked my bank account a few days later and turns out we were charged for the full price to include the food we sent back after an hour wait. Good thing I saved the receipt I signed in the restaurant that reflected only the tacos and drinks consumed (half our order). So our bank has reversed this ridiculous, unethical over-charging after the fact of the final bill. Disappointing and very surprising! read more

When we first arrived it was a bit of a wait for the hostess to arrive at the front to check us in. She apologized and said she was in back putting together to go orders. We had a group of eight and they were very accommodating. Lorenzo provided great service. My girlfriend and I stopped by at this location for a late lunch. We were seated immediately. Unfortunately we sat for a good 10 minutes without a single person coming up to our table and offering any sort of acknowledgment, including management. I happened to make eye contact with a few of the employees and what looked to be mangers while we sat waiting. So we decided to leave. The three hosts at the door were too busy standing around to even notice they sat us and casually told us to have a nice day as we left. Not long after exiting the restaurant did a manager, who I am assuming was the GM came out after us and offered to buy our lunch. We declined. Well, the ambiance is good. The food, I ordered two simple carnitas street tacos with the rice and beans. It came less than room temperature while all the other plates came HOT. The meat was under-seasoned, and I don't mean picante. Garlic and salt would definitely help, and that pirate cabbage made the meat cold, too. Put it on the side and let the customers choose to use it. I personally would have just preferred cilantro and onions like typical street tacos are generally prepared. But cold food is always disappointing. Poor flavors from a chain icon is always going to send me away. Tacos are difficult to ruin, in this case, support the local small businesses. Now for the service - the waiter couldn't keep up with his section and didn't utilize the backup staff. We had trouble getting his attention for not only my cold food but also water and drink refills. Manager help your staff if they are overwhelmed. The hostess definitely tried. Came for happy hour at 3 on a Wednesday and was seated promptly. Food came out in a timely manner and was very flavorful. However the standout was our amazing service and delicious drinks made by Miss Fernanda !! The best micheladas my girls and I have had since our most recent trip to Mexico. I moved out of the area, and this was the first time in over 6 years I was back. I was so disappointed. They changed the menu, I wanted regular chicken taquitos, and they didn't have them. I'm usually pleased with service But on Oct. 1...our waitress Maria was the worst. It took over 45 min to get water..we asked at least 3xs . It took over 35 min to get our drink. Our order took almost 1 hour...just a taco and side salad for each of us. We advises the manager, we paid for our drinks and will not sit at Maria's area again. The manager gave us a meal to go. Our dinner at El Toronto was outstanding tonight in so many ways! Manager Miriam got us right to a table, took our drink order and because we were in a hurry took our dinner order as well.
