This is a really nice place with an awesome staff. You know it's a good place if it's always busy, and this restaurant is! This is the best Mexican in town. We've tried the others. The chorizo is on point and portion sizes are pretty big. This has been the go-to for Mexican for us for many years. The salsa is addicting! Once again, I am writing a review for.......you guessed it...........a Mexican joint! And as I have said in the past, my wife loves Mexican food. This particular day we chose to do take out rather than dine in. I have to say that I enjoyed my meal which consisted of 2-beef burritos, 1-beef taco, rice and re-fried beans. The price-$7.25 I enjoyed it all. The seasoning that I tend to despise was not heavily present in the beef which may turn true Mexican food lovers off. The beans were OK and the rice could have used more flavor. My wife had the shrimp chimichanga which also came with the rice and re-fried beans. The price-$9.00. This is what she always orders when we go here. It must be good. As you can see, the prices are very reasonable. I took my daughter who is home from college. The waiter was nice but acted inconvenienced when she asked for no tomatoes. His response was..........uh.no. we can not do that. It comes made that way. So, she ordered something else and was able to get no pico on it. She also ordered a chalupa. Her lunch came with the pico on it and she got a flata, not a chalupa. When the new waitress saw she got pico her response was.............they put it on anyway. Not, can I get that fixed for you. I have never had a bad experience here but this is a first. I think it might be a while before I go back. They did not seem concerned if anything was right or not. Oh, by the way, the first waiter did not come back after he was rude with his answer. Check the dates on the dressing people. I ordered a taco salad and when Grub Hub delivered it, the restaurant provided me with (2) Italian dressings that expired October 5, 2019. They only wanted to refund the person that placed my order 10% off the salad dressing. So, I guess they thought I would be happy with a taco salad with no dressing. So disappointed since El Torero has moved to its new location. My last experience was hopefully not my last but since they are unable to make it up to me..They stopped selling the lunch taquitos special so I had to go with the polo Hawaiian and it was sloppy, cold, and just a plate of mush with a piece of thin chicken included. I ordered the $4 cheese dip on the side which came out ice cold and tasteless. I love the owner of this restaurant but his staff is unfriendly and unhelpful. I spent $13 on ice cold, disgusting food and their phone lines have been a mess so I wasn't able to call and complain. I am saddened to say that I will likely no longer be a frequent patron at this establishment. They are poor business owners and have little respect for the customers. I placed a to go order and needed up waiting in the bar are for longer than 40 minutes after waiting at home for 20 (like they stated). I never ever complain but I actually requested to speak to the manager. With several employees concurring how long I had been waiting (with my family in the car), I requested that I be compensated with a 100% discount OR I just leave without the food. Food is okay at best. Service was horrible. The manager or owner sat in the booth behind me and conversed very loudly with a friend/guest at the table across from us. Speaking in Spanish only. My waiter only came once to my table after my meal was served. That was to give me the bill. The staff lounged around and would jump in the conversation going on behind me. I went to the other location in Cortland with a friend at a later date. Service was the same there. Our waitress was good, but was made to do everything while the manager and others sat at the bar and did nothing to help. When I was paying for my bill, I had asked for a bag for the boxes of my leftovers. There were three people standing doing nothing at the bar and made our waitress come from the back and get a bag. Last night we were greeted by a sullen hostess telling us we would have a 20 minute wait. When we were being seated, we could see that half the tables were empty yet we had to wait. My husband and I dined there with a couple of friends. I had the fajita chimichanga. It was really good, though not as crispy as most chimi's. My husband had their combo #21. Other than a small confusion about whether the friend ordered huevos rancheros or pollo ranchero, we all really enjoyed it. They even put up with us staying there for over 2 hours. read more

Not for your family! My family and I ate here today 11/10/15 and Constantine a supernatural thriller about a cynical exorcist was on TV. I asked that they change the channel and was told no. Another customer was watching it, on the TV she was not facing, her young son was though. I have a 4 year old, a first grader, and a third grader dining with me, showing a rated R movie on AMC is not appropriate at 4:30 in the afternoon. We moved tables on our own to a small section that was unoccupied. There was a TV in this section, also playing the inappropriate movie. My husband shut off the TV and was reprimanded by the a server who told him to turn it back on before we left. My family will not be back. Too bad they have good food at a good price. read more

I went here today with a friend who raves about the place and has gone for years. She is embarrassed and feels terrible for recommending we go there for lunch after the down right rude service we received. I guess the fact that Cinco de Mayo was the night before had put a strain on them, but it wasn't busy while we were there. We waited at least 10 minutes for chips and salsa, another 10 for our drinks, one of which I never received. Almost 35 minutes after we ordered, we began to wonder why it was taking so long. We waited for anyone to come by our table for another 15 minutes and NO ONE ever came by, so I walked up to ask. I was told it was taking longer than usual.. Ok, fine, if someone would have mentioned that, we would have know. Now it goes to just slightly aggravating to down right maddening. Our waiter, who we haven't seen in at least an 45 minutes, brings our food and ask in a very rude tone if I actually asked about the food, as if I was out of line to even ask. Then our food was luke warm at best. It was obvious it had been sitting somewhere and had been pushed aside. Everyone knows how faitjas come out sizzling, right? My friends skillet was only slightly warm to the touch. The waiter was very rude the rest of the time. I heard him mumble things under his breath that where beyond any idea of acceptable customer service. For my friends sake, I refrained from saying more, excpet for asking to have something ordered and never recieved removed from the bill. I have never had an experience like this anywhere and have never written a bad review of a restaraunt in my life. My friend may go back, she is not sure, but I will not. I will say even cold the Tres Mare off the specials menu was on the best tasting mexican dishes I have ever had. Too bad I won't be trying it again. read more
