I ordered a super burrito, it was simply ground beef in a flour tortilla with lettuce, tomato, and sour cream, along with a side of beans, which did not present well on the plate. The taste was good, the ambiance was quaint. The salsa was very good! They also served the chips with coleslaw, which I actually loved. Since my last review was 2017 I thought I bring you all up to date. This is our all time favorite Mexican restaurant. It's the gold standard we compare all others to. Their margaritas are by far the best in the area. This is a hint of citrus in them that makes all the difference in the world. The staff is very personable and a lot of fun. The food is the best. The Cortland El T stands out from the rest of the franchise. Their tacos are basic but the meat seasoning is spot on. Their x-hot salsa is so good, not just hot but has a great flavor as well. What do I recommend? All their shrimp dishes are great, empanadas, tacos, appetizer shrimp quesadilla,... everything! Hang on, we're going there now! read more

Went to dinner on a Monday at 4pm. Staff was friendly, everything clean and neat. Ordered a medium lime margarita on the rocks. Tasted very fresh-not the "house mix." This place is horrible. I ordered online for a pickup order of Burrito Especial with beef. Got home and it was chicken instead of beef. I called to complain the lady wanted me to drive back up there so they can make me the correct order that I placed. I spent 31.00 for this pickup and now they want me to drive back up there, give me gas money your cook is the one that screwed up the order not me. UGH. We ended up going on "staycation" yesterday and this place came highly recommended. It was pretty packed but we went on a Friday night when the weather was perfect right at dinner time; if they hadn't been busy, then I would have started to worry. We were able get a high top table on the patio. Our server was quick and efficient. I ordered the Enchiladas Supremas and hubby got Enchiladas Jalisco (stuffed with seafood). My dinner was wonderful: 4 enchiladas (shredded chicken, ground beef, retried beans, cheese - one of each) in their red sauce -- which was delicious! Hubby liked his enough but said it tasted "ok" - his enchiladas were in a creamy cheese sauce. The prices of beer, especially on tap, was super reasonable. All in all, our bill came to under $30 (not included tip) and we left full bellies and satisfied. read more

Fantastic food, kind staff. There is an occasional mistake on my order, but they have always made it right when I ask.

Ok went there tonight. Very busy birthday party on patio. So asked the server if they could leave onions out of a dish. They told me no problem. 25 to 3o minutes later, can back and told me they could no do that. Just told them I did not want anything. Mean while my husband dinner came, told them just to box it up. That told anywhere from ten to fifteen minutes. No happy. If you can not handle a large party. Tell people as they coming in.they have to wait over an hour for the food. And let them decide if they want to stay. Do not think we will be going back there anytime soon. read more

I have been eating at El Torero since it first opened in the early aughts. I've watched many authentic Mexican restaurant come and go since then and none of them compare to this place. Happy to see they were able to expand beyond their humble first location and move into other markets. We are new to Cortland and luckily this place is right down the road from us. We've both sat down and ate here, and ordered take out. The portions are huge and the food is flavorful. The prices are great but they are even better when you have one of their coupons (which are everywhere). The service was wonderful. THE. WORST. When we walked in, my girlfriend and me had to wait for about 10 minutes before anyone came to talk with us. All the waitresses just kept looking at us. When we finally got a table, I was in the bathroom and the waitress asked my girlfriend if she wanted salsa for the chips and she said yes then she asked if she wanted cheese dip without telling her that it was extra. We were seated near the patio (?) door and it was so cold and smelled like cigarettes. The waitresses kept going in and out. Good luck getting the attention from anyone. No one cares. The mountain dew was gross and watery. The chips were stale. The waitress came to our table like 2 times asking if we were ready and the manager (maybe?) had to tell her literally refill our drinks. We ordered the food and 5 minutes later it came out, which probably means it was already made earlier. The food was lukewarm. We sat there for 20 minutes waiting for a box and the check. The waitress was too busy sitting at the table or the bench for waiting doing nothing but being on her phone. I would rate it 0/5 if I could. read more

Not very impressed overall. Food was nothing to write home about. Seemed mostly like items you could buy at the grocery slapped together. Service wasn't very good either. Our waitress dropped off our food them was nowhere to be seen until the check was delivered. We also noticed several tables that needed to be cleaned the entire time we were there. Well, lets start out by saying that I should own stock in this place! :-) I am here at least once a week, if not more. Lunch is always super fast, which is perfect when you work and need to get a good meal in a hurry. I have a broad pallet when it comes to Mexican dishes and everything that I have had here is amazing. The AP Special and Chicken Quesadilla are the hubby's fav and I really enjoy the wet burrito and this amazing dish that has half of a fresh pineapple filled with grilled chicken and rice. I would love to say that my visit to this restaurant was pleasant and enjoyable, but unfortunately, it was not. When we first arrived, the hostess seated us in this booth and hands us menus covered in wet salsa. They were not clean and we had to wipe them down ourselves. Then we go to order and so far we just have the menu incident. I order the torero supreme with bean and no rice, I am not crazy about rice to begin with, my mother orders grilled chicken. After patiently waiting for our orders to arrive, we began to eat our meals. To my surprise, the beans were grossly burnt. Why????? How could you do this to beans? You are a mexican restaurant! Beans are child play, taco bell has better-refried beans! Then on top of that, my mothers grilled chicken was burnt and the menu stated three chicken breasts and she only received a small piece of ONE chicken breast. I wish that my experience could have been better, but it wasn't. The only person who enjoyed themselves was my father. He ordered the seafood tacos. Not very good! When finally seated we received a bowl of tortilla pieces too small for any salsa which was fine considering the salsa was just red water, no chunks of tomatoes at all. The table was dirty. Very unorganized. We were seated by the bar, it was very loud and the bartender talked constantly about personal matters. We won't be going back.
