As a displaced San Diego resident, El Taquito is a welcome change from the bastardized cuisine they call Mexican in this state. Burritos, tacos, quesadillas, tortas, and just about everything else that normally graces a taqueria's menu are here. The burritos are large, the hot sauce is runny. All is well. We were on a road trip from DC and stopped by here because of the 5-star reviews, however we regretted our decision once we arrived in the hole in the wall. Definitely not worth making a special trip for. After being spoiled by District Taco's unlimited salsa bar with fresh onions, cilantro, limes, this was nothing like that. The staff was nice and although the prices were very reasonable, I wished that they had a better salsa bar so that we could have added some salsa or veg to our tacos. It was later in the evening and the salsa station right next to the door was so dark I couldn't see anything and it looked like it had been sitting there all day. The absolute best authentic Mexican food in Clemmons and the surrounding area. You know the Mexican food is the real deal when most of the patrons are Mexican. You won't see Mexicans eating at Taco Bell or even the beloved Clemmons staple restaurant Mi Pueblo. This hidden gem has excellent service and even better food. If you are curious but don't know what to try first, I'd suggest going slightly off menu and ordering tacos campechanos, and go ahead and get a 4 tacos order. These are soft shell tacos (pretty sure Mexico doesn't even have hard shell tacos) with a sprinkling of veg and cilantro and a mix of both carne asada (beef) and chorizo (pork sausage) and they will knock your socks off. If you are feeling adventurous, this place also offers Lingue (cow tongue and while it may sound revolting to Americans, it is extremely tasty and I mean, come on, steaks are just cow muscles and so is this), tripe (cow intestines) and sessos (I'll let y'all look that one up yourself). Greeted by a smiling face and the smell of meats on the grill, I immediately felt welcomed. As I reviewed the menu on the wall while in line for ordering, I knew I was in for a treat. I chose the tacos- lengua and chorizo. Along with a cold Negra Modelo, I was good to go. As my food was delivered to my table, I was please with the presentation, but who cares about that at a taco joint! It was nice. The Chorizo was cooked perfectly, a little crunchy and exploding with flavor. The lengua was good... I prefer a bit of a finishing touch of oil and heat to crisp it but was gone in seconds. Do not waste your money. I ordered a chicken burrito and the inside of it was 90% rice with some sour cream and onion. I had to search for the little bits of chicken. No cheese, no beans, no guacamole, almost no lettuce. My husband's tacos were similar. read more

Great place to stop on the road! Just off 40, cozy, with wonderful food! Started with queso dip, served with warm, thick tortilla chips. Not spicy, but so yummy! Kids were happy with their cheese quesadillas. My chicken taquitos were flavorful, plentiful (8!), and served over a very nice salad. Spouse got 4 different kinds of tacos and enjoyed them all! By far the best authentic Mexican food I've ever had. The guacamole was incredible; just the right amount of avocado to cilantro to veggie ratio. My kids are it with a spoon and ignored the chips. Sometimes you find a hole in the wall and it's developed its own atmosphere. Nope. Not here. This place is pretty much a dumpy place. Clean? No dirtier than my home. But I don't sell food from my home! One previous reviewer noted the patrons drinking at the entrance. Yep. Somewhat of a less than welcoming presence. If i were a woman, not stopping. The menu board can be overwhelming/confusing. The staff, VERY kind and helpful. Very easy to get to off of I-40. Soooo good and authentic! I had the traditional soft corn tortilla tacos, Pastor and Carnitas (both pork) and the Pastor style - plain pork, were my favorite. I also had the chips and salsa (homemade salsa) and they were good too. Complimentary pinto beans were very good too. Super nice people, quick service and obvious pride in the quality of what they produce. I have eaten at over 500 Mexican joints in my travels and this was super solid and reasonably priced. This is a true taqueria, and I'm glad I don't have to drive across town to get real deal tacos. Like most taquerias, it's a little hole in the wall, but it's a great place to get a quick bite, or take out. We ordered the camarones a la diabla (devilish shrimp), and as the name implies the shrimp were cooked in a wonderful spicy hot sauce. This dish is not for the faint of heart, so if you don't like heat, stay away from this one! The tacos are full of flavor, and we ordered an assortment of fish, chicken, carne asada, and chorizo. This is Mexican food as it should be. no ground beef in sight. Carne Asada , barbacoa, lingua. Traditional food, fresh ingredients, huge portions. Beans and a salsa bar are serve yourself with any meal. Did not rate 5 star because of Lengthy wait. The family and I tried this tonight. We were not impressed. We were greeted by three amigos sitting at the tables with about 15 empty beers can between them. No food. No other customers. Okay, we got past that and studied the big board to order. My wife ordered the roasted chicken with rice and was promptly told they didn't have that?? Ok, so she ordered the huevos rancheros instead. I ordered 4 tacos - 2 beef, 2 chicken. My daughter ordered chicken nachos. We also ordered chips and salsa - $3.50 for this. For drinks, I got Corona in the bottle and they got water. The water is Costco's brand in bottles for which they charge $1.50 per. All the drinks are in a refrigerated cabinet in the lobby/eating area. We sat down inside and waited. The server, who was friendly, brought my Corona. I did have to ask for some lime and she went to the salsa bar and put some in a styrofoam bowl for me. Yes, everything is served on styrofoam. We were never offered any drink ware or ice. Not sure if ice is even available there. Chips and salsa - seemed like freshly cooked chips. The salsa is thick and has a kick to it. My tacos came along with my daughter's chicken nachos. Wife's order did not come until about 5 minutes later. My tacos looked appealing, but both the beef and chicken were finely chopped and very overcooked. The meat in both was dry and crumbly. The chicken nachos was a very large serving, covered in a mound of cheese that tasted just like Velveeta. I guess maybe we were expecting Queso, but maybe Velveeta has it's roots in Hispanic culture...ha ha. The wife enjoyed her heuvos ranchero, although her eggs yolks were overcooked and hard. This was the deal killer. Throughout the entire meal we were bombarded and attacked by fruit flys and/or gnats. We spent the meal swatting them away trying to keep them out of our food, which we were not always successful. It was at this time that my wife noticed a dead fruit fly on one of the limes from the salsa bar. I hope the alcohol in my Corona killed everything. So, if you like eating in the back alleys of Tijuana with the associated pests.....this place is for you. I will be placing a call to the Forsyth County Health Inspectors on Monday morning. We wanted to find a good taqueria for dinner and were so glad we found this place! The tacos were exactly what I'd been craving and the experience was complete from good horchata to the hot carrots to the loud mexican tv. The only thing I'd change was the tacos came with only one tortilla instead of the usual two so it was a little messier than usual and my honey wanted jamaica, but it hit the spot for my taqueria autentica cravings. This little authentic mexican restaurant has much better food than Mi Pueblo and Monte De Ray. El Taquito has the best tacos in Clemmons. The meat is cooked to perfection while the cilantro and lime gives the tacos a fresh and exciting taste. You will be amazed at the size and taste of the tortas. Everything on the menu is cheaply priced, making El Taquito the best bang for your buck. El Taquito is my weekly go to place to indulge in authentic mexican food. They have a vast selection of meats but i would recommend getting the pork, marinated pork, or chicken, but if you are feeling adventurous they have brain, stomach, and tung. I love to switch off every time i go there between the tacos and the torta cubano. Give El Taquito a chance, i promise you will not be dissapointed. read more

OH MY GOODNESS AMAZING!!!!! We love this place!!! When I say "we" I mean my husband, kids and everyone we have ever taken to eat there! My personal favorite is the chorizo and egg torta! The staff is always great as well! It does get a little loud at lunch with the music but that's my only complaint. If you are looking for true authentic Mexican food this is the place! My mother in law, who is From Puerto Rico, usually just picks at her food everywhere we go eat but she was very impressed with the food and ate most of what she got! Definitely the best taqueria in winston or clemmons. They have free beans and a hot sauce bar. We usually get food to go as the jukebox is sometimes blasting with tejano music. Tamales are great and carnitas tacos are delicious! read more
