What we've been looking for in Winston! Great tacos, guac, and salsa. Authentic food and friendly staff. Will 100% visit again!

As a displaced San Diego resident, El Taquito is a welcome change from the bastardized cuisine they call Mexican in this state. Burritos, tacos, quesadillas, tortas, and just about everything else that normally graces a taqueria's menu are here. The burritos are large, the hot sauce is runny. All is well. Great selection of Mexican beers as well. Open late. Would have given 5 stars except they make you be in NC to eat there ;) Highly recommended. read more

This place is so tasty!!! I go to Mexico a couple times a year and travel the US extensively. El Taquito delivers if you're looking for a legit taqueria experience. We had carnitas, carne asada and pollo asada. All the tacos were delicious as well as the chips, salsa and salsa bar. Service was friendly and soccer on the TV makes for a perfect ambiance. Please come eat here so we can keep this place here in Clemmons!! read more

This is the best food around! Fresh, authentic, and a wide variety to chose from. It's a must go place!!

We were on a road trip from DC and stopped by here because of the 5-star reviews, however we regretted our decision once we arrived in the hole in the wall. Definitely not worth making a special trip for. After being spoiled by District Taco's unlimited salsa bar with fresh onions, cilantro, limes, this was nothing like that. The staff was nice and although the prices were very reasonable, I wished that they had a better salsa bar so that we could have added some salsa or veg to our tacos. It was later in the evening and the salsa station right next to the door was so dark I couldn't see anything and it looked like it had been sitting there all day. They also didn't have any water and only water bottles could be purchased. read more

This is a beautiful gem hidden in the rough is right in the heart of Clemmons. El Taquito is sure to have something that you will enjoy, from more authentic to cheese covered dishes. I also loved their drink selections (including Mexican Coca-Cola). Although I wouldn't tag it as the best of food in Clemmons, this place is cheap, delicious, and casual- everything you could want for lunch or a quick week-day night stop. read more

Never have I ever been more offended in my entire life than tonight. My partner and I left a wonderful paint nite at 2520 for our anniversary and came to this establishment. Upon our arrival , my partner was called a "dike bitch" by one of the supervising position employees. I am absolutely appalled and will be looking into further lawful action. read more

Fresh authentic food, friendly staff. There are many Mexican restaurants in Forsyth County, hands down this one is the best. Seating area is small but clean. A little pricey but well worth it. Try the Cuban torta with some spicey tomatillo sauce(salsa Verde) amazing.. read more

Greeted by a smiling face and the smell of meats on the grill, I immediately felt welcomed. As I reviewed the menu on the wall while in line for ordering, I knew I was in for a treat. I chose the tacos- lengua and chorizo. Along with a cold Negra Modelo, I was good to go. As my food was delivered to my table, I was please with the presentation, but who cares about that at a taco joint! It was nice. The Chorizo was cooked perfectly, a little crunchy and exploding with flavor. The lengua was good... I prefer a bit of a finishing touch of oil and heat to crisp it but was gone in seconds. A great afternoon snack and will be back! read more

El Taquito - Chorizo and Lengua tacos - Mexican Near Me - Clemmons, North Carolina

The absolute best authentic Mexican food in Clemmons and the surrounding area. You know the Mexican food is the real deal when most of the patrons are Mexican. You won't see Mexicans eating at Taco Bell or even the beloved Clemmons staple restaurant Mi Pueblo. This hidden gem has excellent service and even better food. If you are curious but don't know what to try first, I'd suggest going slightly off menu and ordering tacos campechanos, and go ahead and get a 4 tacos order. These are soft shell tacos (pretty sure Mexico doesn't even have hard shell tacos) with a sprinkling of veg and cilantro and a mix of both carne asada (beef) and chorizo (pork sausage) and they will knock your socks off. If you are feeling adventurous, this place also offers Lingue (cow tongue and while it may sound revolting to Americans, it is extremely tasty and I mean, come on, steaks are just cow muscles and so is this), tripe (cow intestines) and sessos (I'll let y'all look that one up yourself). Definitely give this little taqueria a try though. You won't be disappointed. read more

Amazing. ordered the steak and carnitas burrito and it was gooooood af. highly recommend. screw chipotle read more

El Taquito - Mexican Near Me - Clemmons, North Carolina

Having moved here from Southern California where I grew up eating authentic Mexican food weekly and then married a Mexican, I was sure I wouldn't find great Mexican food in NC, but we found it at El Taquito! Tamales were great, bean cheese and rice burrito was to die for, and the tacos were genuine street tacos! So good and not slathered with nacho cheese like most Mexican restaurants in this area! Will definitely be regulars here! read more

It was my first time so I tried the chicken nachos and the chips with salsa. It's a small place; only bottled drinks, a few tables, and order at the counter. Most people were getting their food to-go; I assume because of a slight odor in the dining room. Overall the service was okay, but the smell and low quality chicken made my experience less than appealing. read more

Great food. Very small, but very accommodating. Authentic Mexican food being served to Mexican patrons -- so you know it's the real deal! Quick stop between Asheville and Raleigh. read more

Do not waste your money. I ordered a chicken burrito and the inside of it was 90% rice with some sour cream and onion. I had to search for the little bits of chicken. No cheese, no beans, no guacamole, almost no lettuce. My husband's tacos were similar. read more

Not a bad place for Mexican food. Most of it is pretty good that I have gotten. I might be a little biased being from Arizona, being such a different style of Mexican food. Support the local business and give them a try. read more

SUCH GOOD FOOD! Their guacamole is homemade and absolutely amazing. My boyfriend doesn't even like guacamole and he loved it. The woman who helped us at the register was so nice and you can really tell they take pride in what they do. The taquitos are delicious, the carnitas are delicious, the beans are delicious, long story short it's pretty much all delicious. read more

The BEST Tamales I've ever had outside of Texas!! I ordered a dozen to go.....I drove 6 miles from WS to pick them up, they were ready when I arrived. The woman at the counter greeted me with a warm smile and prompt service. When I got back to my house, I opened the 2 containers and the steam came billowing out.....I think I'll be going back Christmas Eve!! Trust me when I say, you won't be disapointed if youre looking for Authentic Tamales (chicken and Pork) read more

Best Mexican food in Clemmons! Authentic and delicious. You have got to try the tamales

Great place to stop on the road! Just off 40, cozy, with wonderful food! Started with queso dip, served with warm, thick tortilla chips. Not spicy, but so yummy! Kids were happy with their cheese quesadillas. My chicken taquitos were flavorful, plentiful (8!), and served over a very nice salad. Spouse got 4 different kinds of tacos and enjoyed them all! Overall, great food, fast & friendly service with generous portions. If we drive through again, we'll be back! read more

Smallish place for dining in, albeit with patio that accommodated our party of six comfortably. Every bit of the food we ordered exceeded expectations, and we found the service to be helpful. read more

By far the best authentic Mexican food I've ever had. The guacamole was incredible; just the right amount of avocado to cilantro to veggie ratio. My kids are it with a spoon and ignored the chips. We had to order a second side before the food came! The burritos were huge and the meats were perfectly seasoned. I am a big fan of lengua and these tacos did not disappoint. The horchata was also perfect, tasty and sweet but not syrupy. Wish I could give it Ten stars! read more

Great tacos! Rosa de Jamaica is on point.

We LOVE this place! Best tamales! Good Mexican food has been about all we've been missing since we moved to NC. Now that we have El Taquito, our lives are complete! Love the tacos and we're so obsessed with the tamales we actually ordered two dozen to take to our family over Thanksgiving. read more

Everything came out cold. Ordered queso and got cold milk with unmelted cheese in it.

I soooo want to give this place 4 stars or better. We've been here half a dozen times which should say something. About the food. Very good food. We love the food. Atmosphere - not so much. Sometimes you find a hole in the wall and it's developed its own atmosphere. Nope. Not here. This place is pretty much a dumpy place. Clean? No dirtier than my home. But I don't sell food from my home! One previous reviewer noted the patrons drinking at the entrance. Yep. Somewhat of a less than welcoming presence. If i were a woman, not stopping. The menu board can be overwhelming/confusing. The staff, VERY kind and helpful. Very easy to get to off of I-40. We'll eat here again, but we'd eat here MORE if they would change a few things up in the atmosphere/cleanliness departments! read more

This is a true taqueria, and I'm glad I don't have to drive across town to get real deal tacos. Like most taquerias, it's a little hole in the wall, but it's a great place to get a quick bite, or take out. We ordered the camarones a la diabla (devilish shrimp), and as the name implies the shrimp were cooked in a wonderful spicy hot sauce. This dish is not for the faint of heart, so if you don't like heat, stay away from this one! The tacos are full of flavor, and we ordered an assortment of fish, chicken, carne asada, and chorizo. The chorizo was my favorite, although this was probably the least healthy of the assortment. We will certainly be back! read more

Finally a local place that can rival authentic Mexican tacos. Tried chicken, beef, al pastor, & chorizo tacos. All good. There is a mini salsa bar and a crock pot of beans available for condiments. Small space to sit inside; probably 8-10 tables. We ordered para llevar -- took about 6-8 minutes. We'll be back. read more

Soooo good and authentic! I had the traditional soft corn tortilla tacos, Pastor and Carnitas (both pork) and the Pastor style - plain pork, were my favorite. I also had the chips and salsa (homemade salsa) and they were good too. Complimentary pinto beans were very good too. Super nice people, quick service and obvious pride in the quality of what they produce. I have eaten at over 500 Mexican joints in my travels and this was super solid and reasonably priced. I always like being able to get an old school cane sugar bottle of Coke too. Well done! read more

The family and I tried this tonight. We were not impressed. We were greeted by three amigos sitting at the tables with about 15 empty beers can between them. No food. No other customers. Okay, we got past that and studied the big board to order. My wife ordered the roasted chicken with rice and was promptly told they didn't have that?? Ok, so she ordered the huevos rancheros instead. I ordered 4 tacos - 2 beef, 2 chicken. My daughter ordered chicken nachos. We also ordered chips and salsa - $3.50 for this. For drinks, I got Corona in the bottle and they got water. The water is Costco's brand in bottles for which they charge $1.50 per. All the drinks are in a refrigerated cabinet in the lobby/eating area. We sat down inside and waited. The server, who was friendly, brought my Corona. I did have to ask for some lime and she went to the salsa bar and put some in a styrofoam bowl for me. Yes, everything is served on styrofoam. We were never offered any drink ware or ice. Not sure if ice is even available there. Chips and salsa - seemed like freshly cooked chips. The salsa is thick and has a kick to it. My tacos came along with my daughter's chicken nachos. Wife's order did not come until about 5 minutes later. My tacos looked appealing, but both the beef and chicken were finely chopped and very overcooked. The meat in both was dry and crumbly. The chicken nachos was a very large serving, covered in a mound of cheese that tasted just like Velveeta. I guess maybe we were expecting Queso, but maybe Velveeta has it's roots in Hispanic culture...ha ha. The wife enjoyed her heuvos ranchero, although her eggs yolks were overcooked and hard. This was the deal killer. Throughout the entire meal we were bombarded and attacked by fruit flys and/or gnats. We spent the meal swatting them away trying to keep them out of our food, which we were not always successful. It was at this time that my wife noticed a dead fruit fly on one of the limes from the salsa bar. I hope the alcohol in my Corona killed everything. So, if you like eating in the back alleys of Tijuana with the associated pests.....this place is for you. I will be placing a call to the Forsyth County Health Inspectors on Monday morning. I would not recommend!! read more

We wanted to find a good taqueria for dinner and were so glad we found this place! The tacos were exactly what I'd been craving and the experience was complete from good horchata to the hot carrots to the loud mexican tv. The only thing I'd change was the tacos came with only one tortilla instead of the usual two so it was a little messier than usual and my honey wanted jamaica, but it hit the spot for my taqueria autentica cravings. We both left satisfied and happy. read more

This is Mexican food as it should be. no ground beef in sight. Carne Asada , barbacoa, lingua. Traditional food, fresh ingredients, huge portions. Beans and a salsa bar are serve yourself with any meal. Did not rate 5 star because of Lengthy wait. That being said, the lady that takes your order, your money and delivers your food is all by herself. Her husband is also alone in the kitchen preparing the food as it is ordered. Even the tortillas are freshly made. read more

Wow about sums up the quality of food here at El Taquito. The Menu is very simple. Choose between tacos, Burritos, Tortas, or Quesadilla. Then choose your meat. They have beef and Chicken, but you can also choose tongue, tripe, pork stomach, etc.. while eating here you truly forget your in America, but in a good way. read more

Most residents of Clemmons have no idea of the gem beneath their noses. Don't let El Taquito's appearance fool you. This little authentic mexican restaurant has much better food than Mi Pueblo and Monte De Ray. El Taquito has the best tacos in Clemmons. The meat is cooked to perfection while the cilantro and lime gives the tacos a fresh and exciting taste. You will be amazed at the size and taste of the tortas. Everything on the menu is cheaply priced, making El Taquito the best bang for your buck. El Taquito is my weekly go to place to indulge in authentic mexican food. They have a vast selection of meats but i would recommend getting the pork, marinated pork, or chicken, but if you are feeling adventurous they have brain, stomach, and tung. I love to switch off every time i go there between the tacos and the torta cubano. Give El Taquito a chance, i promise you will not be dissapointed. read more

Not much to say other than - wow !! Some really great, authentic, home-made Mexican food... Very tasty and the fajita platter is quite large ! Get the shrimp and steak combo - and enjoy the homemade soft shells (not the white bleached garbage call soft shells and sell in stores) - I forgot that soft flour / corn shells can actually taste good ! read more

So beyond disappointed. Nothing had flavor at all. Not worth the calories I wasted, so disappointed.

Decor was pretty yuck, but the food was ok. Menu wasn't particularly approachable, and I didn't love being given huge cuts of beef with no knife. I guess I could have used the tasty and soft corn tortillas to help tear them apart, but that didn't seem particularly appealing. My girlfriend's carnitas dinner was a lot like mine "good, but boring." We'll perhaps try the tortas next time. read more

Very good food love going to get the real deal in Mexican food.when we are in the neighborhood.we stop and get the food and atmosphere.

Definitely the best taqueria in winston or clemmons. They have free beans and a hot sauce bar. We usually get food to go as the jukebox is sometimes blasting with tejano music. Tamales are great and carnitas tacos are delicious! read more
