Went for lunch today and sat outside which was very nice. Flowers were beautiful and gave a nice atmosphere. I had the taco bowl with ground beef. It was HORRIBLE. I couldn't come close to eat it after I got through the lettuce and tomatoes. You could hardly tell it was hamburger. It was mush and had no flavor. No resemblance to ground beef. I very nicely brought it to the waiters attention but no apology or comment! I can only imagine they are skimping to save a few bucks? Do they not know the customer's satisfaction should be paramount? The other 3 in our party had street tacos and burritos which were all enjoyed. read more

The food here is great every single time. Everything I've tried is really good. However, it's really expensive for Mexican food! Also if you get to go, most of the time they will only fill up your container of queso half way. Everything on the menu is inflated sadly but again the food is great. It's been my go to takeout spot but will look at all the other Mexican spots in the area because of cost and salsa/queso being half full. read more

I would have given this place three stars if it weren't for the service and good drinks. I walked in on a week night and there was no wait. The inside isn't huge and there were quite a few people (as well as groups having birthday parties) so it can get loud as they come to the table and sing or something. My server was very attentive and friendly. The margaritas are HUGE, you will definitely get your moneys worth there. I ordered the chicken fajitas and the chicken was cooked perfectly well done and flavorful. The portions of the lettuce, cheese, guac, etc was small which was kind of disappointing. And I got maybe 2 small spoonfuls of rice and beans. I would recommend coming here for the drinks or for a party! read more

Service and table delivery, as good as it's ever been. However,... Food, how far they've fallen. I can only guess they lost their chef somewhere along the way. Shredded chicken, plain, wrapped in a flour tortilla, enchilada sauce poured over, same thing called a burrito, also called an enchilada. Tres Leche, a 1 1/2 inch tall 4x4 inch wide Betty Crocker vanilla cake, with frosting, and a small side of (guessing grocery store jarred) chocolate sundae sauce and butterscotch sauce ... for $10. Total wicked disappointment in the drop in food quality. If it were a high school cafe, well, I'd say cute, but no way to run a restaurant. read more

El Tap is an authentic Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere is nice, the staff is very attentive. Sunday thru Thursday they have specials from 2:30-6. (Drinks and food) We ordered Jalapeño poppers. They were just okay. They were commercial frozen poppers. I would have thought they would have made them fresh in house. The presentation however was great. Great use of garnish to make the Mexican flag. See picture! We will be back to try some of their other dishes that looked fantastic! read more

Ordered fajitas for delivery and it was drowning in oil. Mostly onion and teeny bits of chicken. Barely received but a very small tidbit of salsa despite 3 entrees. And an appetizer. Just seems like they have gone downhill. The refried beans seemed watered down. They used to be thick and the best around. New chef? New owners ? Something's not right ! read more

We had dinner tonight at the bar, the food was outstanding!! We had chori pollo, shrimp and cheese empanadas, chicken taco, cheese quesadilla and rice. All were fantastic!!!! The drinks were delicious as well. The service was the absolute best part!! John was attentive, got our order correct, offered condiments and anything else we needed... he kept our drinks refilled and checked in on us frequently. The best bartender I've had there yet and they have some good ones!! Would definitely recommend you try el tapatio and sit with John at the bar, you will love it!!! read more

Had a terrible experience at the restaurant last night, which we've frequented for years, both dining in and takeout. I ordered a takeout meal for myself and grilled chicken tacos, NO onions or cheese, black beans rather than refried for my wife. The employee repeats my order to me, twice, on the phone, to make sure he has it right. We get home 10 minutes away and discover refried beans and tacos LOADED with onions. We return to the restaurant, frustrated, my meal sitting at home. They establish that I want only lettuce and cilantro on the tacos, after some haggling, offer me a $15 gift card for the considerable inconvenience, and remake the meal. We get home....again, the taco is even more LOADED with onions. We call back, are accused of having ordered the tacos with onions and cilantro. Now...WHY would I return a meal due to it being made with onions, only to ask for onions again. So ends my history with El Tapatio, and will be gifting my gift card to someone of whom I'm not very fond. read more

I attempted to contact the owner about our take-out experience and resolve the issues but they never responded to my request. We ordered food via phone about 6:30 pm on a weeknight and were told it would be ready in 15-20 minutes.  We arrived on time and waited in the lobby with several other customers for our dinner.  About 40 minutes later, after checking with several servers, a younger blonde-haired girl finally brought out our food. The other employees ignored us and refused to make eye contact. A young man with curly red hair and a ball cap initially checked on our meal but never returned.  When I did see him about 20 minutes later, he again asked for our order number and disappeared. I did not see him again for the rest of the evening. While there, I saw numerous couples leave because they could not get seated at a table.  A young man arrived and wanted to place an order but nobody was handling the front end so he left.  I also saw a couple, who were seated, leave after about 10 minutes because nobody brought them a menu, water, or asked about drinks or orders.  Furthermore, the phone rang almost constantly while I was there with nobody available to take orders. We have been customers for 7 years and have ordered quite a few meals from this establishment.  In this case, we were disappointed in the service and portion size of our meals - they seemed much smaller than normal.  Given the excessive wait time, I would have expected to receive a typical (or slightly extra) portion size as a courtesy but certainly not smaller servings. read more

Not a big fan of this place. Had dinner here over the weekend, and it was the second time I've done so in about 15 years. The only thing I liked was the spicy ranch wings. Several in our party were also disappointed with the food. Even the Tres Leches cake was super dense instead of being airy & light as it should be. I'll start by saying that El Tapatio isn't a bad choice when it comes to Mexican food. They certainly have an advantage over other Mexican restaurants, being in close proximity to where I stay from time to time. I've gotten food here a few times and none of my experiences have been phenomenal. Again their food isn't bad, I just happened to have had better and that basically sums it up. 3.5 stars and here's why... They do have a commendable angle when it comes to their brand. Lots of engraved decor, plaques, mats with their name on it and the interior is pretty special. Wooden tables and cushioned booths with archways, stained glass, tiles, and paintings all in Mexican fashion and the music to go with it. They do have an attractive drink menu, and are generous when it comes to their margaritas. I always see the bartender busy which is great. As for service, they should just be called workers instead of servers. I haven't had great service, as most of the boys here are younger and I suspect they don't take the job too seriously. I don't see them really go out of their way to fully cater to you but not a huge deal, this is no fine dining. I typically go for their Texas Fajitas which has steak, chicken, and shrimp for $16-17 and that's usually enough which also comes with chips and salsa even when you order to go and it's good! Ask for spicier salsa and you won't be disappointed. I've had higher quality meat and tastier fajitas in general but theirs is alright nonetheless. The Mocaljete for two is a whomping portion of food but I can't really say there were any major difference in flavor and thats a pattern here with their other entrees. It's not outstanding, perhaps not as exciting, but it does the job when you are in the mood. So, this may be a great place to enjoy some margaritas with decent Mexican food in a great environment with okay service but I can't say this is one of my favorite places get Mexican food. Menu prices did not match what was charged. The physical menu did have a notice on the front that the prices had gone up but we weren't overly concerned. We ordered a burger that was advertised as 8oz with jalapeños and fresh avacado. A very small burger was served which did not cover a standard bun though it was tasty and came with a generous order of fries. It was advertised at $10.99 on menu and we were charged ALMOST DOUBLE!!! $18.99. It was not an $18.99 burger and though we share some culpability in not specifically asking we feel the waiter should have highlighted how much the prices had gone up. I was told they only had medium and large and I had to get chips with the salsa. So I told them to give me the smallest I could get. Apparently this is a medium chips and salsa for $4.63!!! Been here countless times and n the past and came Back for obvious reasons. But today was the worst. When you order a steak and chicken mix and there's like 12 pieces between both and you have to spit out 8/12 because it's all fat, crap that can't be chewed... is it time to consider a new vendor? Increase prices? I went here all the time 4 years ago and it was always great. Went Thursday night just because. Seated immediately one server came asked about drinks then left, another server came and asked about drinks. We ordered and they came with another server. Wrong margarita and a couple cervesa. Order supreme nachos , they were okay. Dinner - ordered 3 tacos got 2, another in our party ordered enchiladas and another fajitas. Orders came and were okay. Nothing to re route a trip for believe me. Servers were all folding napkins in back and did not seem ready to serve. The place was fairly crowded. read more

Service was sooooo slow tonight. Meals were not hot. Ladies bathroom had no soap. Asked for a dessert menu and the waiter never came back. After more than minutes we we met into the restaurant to try to find someone to pay and asked what happened to our waiter. All she said was "sorry about that" from a female waitstaff. I've been here twice. The first time I came here with my wife, little brother, and sister- in-law. We all ordered a steak dish. I ordered the T Bone Steak med rare. It came out more like medium. It was still juicy and satisfying, but I would've enjoy it even more if it was cooked to order. I did have to salt it a little and they didn't have A1 sauce. I put a little hot sauce on it for an extra kick. It did pair well with a Modelo - cleaner finish than a Corona. The second time my wife and I came. We ordered margaritas. My wife enjoys El Jimador tequila, which they didn't have. It was a bit disappointing, but they made hers well. She couldn't stop raving about it! Good job to the bartender! My wife is very particular about her margs and y'all came correct! Thank you! I'm slightly allergic to tequila. It gives me heartburn. Our server, Israel, suggested Malibu, Captain Morgan, or Vodka. I had originally opted for the Malibu. Israel did something that was above and beyond and worth noting. He came back to us and told me that Malibu has a coconut flavoring that wouldn't quite taste like a margarita. He said that Tito's would be a close substitute to tequila. He wasn't wrong. My marg was great! I enjoyed it a lot. We both ordered sugar rims. My wife got it but I didn't. I didn't make a fuss though. Israel definitely deserves a shout out for that kind of customer service. You da man! That kind of attention to customers is rare to find and I'm a Culinary Director for an elevated dining restaurant in the heart of Cambridge. I'd hire talent like Israel in a heartbeat. Kudos to you! El Tapatio is lucky to have you. We ordered the Texas fajitas (chicken, beef, and shrimp). Very flavorful. You won't be disappointed. The guacamole came in a small dish and I didn't think it was worth $7. I know avocados are expensive, but I was hoping that small dish would be 2x bigger. I won't be ordering that again. We were however disappointed when we ordered the a la carte beef and chicken soft flour tacos. We ordered 3 each. The beef tacos were ground beef. They weren't so bad but we wouldn't order them again. The chicken tacos were the worst. We didn't enjoy them at all. We ate 1 of each and packed the rest home. Our siblings didn't enjoy them either. A big let down. So...don't order those. Not worth it at all. We should've ordered the street tacos. We would've paid a little more for better quality food and that's what we're going to do next time. Good, not great. We've had better meals and service here, perhaps tonight was an off night? The service disappeared for long periods of time; we were only given 2 place settings for a party of 3 and has to ask for the 3rd setting multiple times before receiving it. The food was good, again not great. Enchilada tortillas seemed reheated, fajitas were cold, however, the gauc was great tonight! So we started off on the right foot, but went downhill from there. We get that everyone's a little off right now, but we are 5 months into this "Covid normal"; there were too many things that were just off tonight. And while everyone has an off night, the biggest disappointment was the music station selection; it wasn't the music itself, but the commercials in between. They were not appropriate for families, in fact they might have even made those out for a grown up evening even blush a little. read more
