I think it's important to share feedback not only for other diners but also for restaurants owners/ operators. While it has been awhile since I last wrote a review I thought this dining experience warranted one. Experience: - The Square is super cute and offers ample parking. -The bathrooms smell awful, from the moment you walk in the hallway there is clearly a plumbing issue present which has been present our last two visits.. rough way to start your experience at a restaurant. -The menu, no issue with prices going up but using white out over the prices, hand writing new prices which is barely legible is tacky to say the least. -Following our order the food came out nearly immediately and it was clear the guacamole to our main dishes are made in advance and not done well. - To the mgmt team -3% surcharge to use a credit card is a joke, add it to your price or offer a cash/ debit discount not the other way around. On the food side: -The beans were prepared with way too much salt.. inedible was the way we would describe it.. -Mexican rice was awful. No sign of a single vegetable or herbs... Mexican rice should and can be made flavorful with ease by any chef. -The guacamole was clearly made well in advance and brown... I'm sorry, happy to pay a premium for guac at a restaurant but this product shows no effort to ensure freshness. -Main dishes , both submerged in oil and our chicken was served nearly cold... fajitas served lukewarm and lacking flavor which seems hard to do but that was our experience. - Drinks - the unsweetened ice tea was served carbonated for some odd reason from their soda machine... not drinkable sorry. Service: - servers were kind and attentive, checking in routinely for anything we may need which was deeply appreciated. After a few shots at this restaurant we both agreed there is a reason the restaurant is empty, the food , the ambiance, the overall experience for our hard earned money. TLDR for the restaurant - take pride in your food, take a fresh look at the diners experience, Mexican food should be vibrant, flavorful and delicious, this is by far the worst finished product we have ever had in NH and simply put not worth a visit unless something drastic changes. read more

Ordered ground beef tacos with sour cream, got shredded beef, asked for silverware, never got it (had to take some from the bar), ask for water got sour cream. This place has been here for a few years and we've always come here and had great food and service. A few months back it got bought out by the owner of Los Primos in Merrimack. If you've have ever eaten there you know their food and drinks suck. I don't mean they are subpar, they simply suck (pre-made margaritas bad). Very good. Now it's also true that almost every time I've been here there's been an issue. But nonetheless I keep returning so it must be good, right? The chips are always crisp and fresh and the salsa is quite good. They say they prepare authentic and they do. The food always tastes fresh and they take the time to create reasonably complex spice combinations. Their margaritas are a definite cut above; they take them seriously and other than an odd variation in heat in one of their jalapeño concoctions over three different samples they're pretty bullet-proof. Last week, my wife and I visited Monarquia in Amherst, NH, an authentic Mexican restaurant, after shopping for antiques at Vintage 101 next door . We absolutely loved Monarquia (and Vintage 101). I chose the Pesca Del Arroyo, which featured a tilapia-like fish called Mojarra, surrounded by succulent shrimp. So good! Please do yourself a favor and try this dish! My wife had the Jalapeño Salad with chicken. It was perfect. I stole some it from her and I loved the flavors. I had a house margarita, which was traditional and well made. We ate outdoors, in a peaceful setting. The service was professional and attentive. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant, tucked away off Route 101 at Salzburg Square in Amherst. read more

Just finished leaving the restaurant. Had a margarita, rum and coke, a burrito, and an order of nachos. With tip AND THE 3% USE A CREDIT CARD FEE, it cost us $75.00 .... The drinks were average, tasty but average. The burrito was ordered with a side of refried beans. We never got a side because they put a spoonful (table spoon) of beans at one end of the inside of the burrito. Waitress mix up. The biggest disappointment was when the nachos came, my wife and I just stared at the 12-15 chips that made up the smallest appetizer of nachos we ever saw. $14.00 nachos. The food was decent in flavor, but for value, not great. And to be charged 3% for the privilege of eating there. We'll you know how often we will go back. read more

Authentic Mexican food! A fabulous, delicious and out of the way eatery. Miz and his staff were very accommodating, friendly, and made sure we satisfied with our order. We decided to try Monarquia because they had Caldo de Mar, which is a spicy seafood soup, which my wife always enjoys. It was excellent with crab legs, mussels, fish and mixture of vegetables - so tasty, delicious and hit the 'high' notes. The Chile Rellenos were also delicious, as were the chicharon tacos. Quite a selection of Margaritas, that were delicious. Worth the drive to Amherst to enjoy this wonderful restaurant. Sorry, forgot iPhone so no pics. read more

I'm done. I've gotten take-out about 10 times in a couple of years. Every time it's ice cold when I get home, and I'm 2 miles away. Last night the "Enchiladas Espeliale" were cold and so salty I couldn't eat them. I also dislike the way they present the bill so you feel obligated to tip for pickup service. $17 for enchiladas that I threw away. Maybe they should check out real taquerias in the city. read more

There isn't a rating low enough for the food we received as takeout tonight. The order was incorrect and when redone It was literally floating in grease. Which was not discovered until we got home. Threw almost all of it away. $33 dollars? It's so disappointing because we have eaten here for 3 years and always have been served excellent food. It took a bit to figure out where this place was but we got takeout and my wife got the Chimichanga and I had the burrito suizo. The burrito was a nice size (I ended up having it for 2 meals) and was a nice combination of filling with a nice cheese topping on it. The Chimichanga was very good my wife said and she was also able to get a couple of meals from it. In search of a Mexican restaurant that will live up to the places back home in Texas, my journey took me to this place. Needless to say I was disappointed in this place. A combination of mediocre food, high prices, and poor service resulted in this review. Here we go: Food To start, they give you free chips and salsa. This is good and what I would expect from a Mexican restaurant. The salsa was ok but lacked the depth of flavor you get from homemade salsa. I wanted to try the other salsa so I ordered the sampler which cost $5. They were just ok. None of them stood out as being fantastic. Portions were a little small and it did not come with any additional chips. Once the initial free chips were gone, that was it. Smh I ordered the regio especial aka steak with green sauce. This was a huge disappointment because the green sauce turned out to be salsa verde. Nothing special in salsa verde and I prefer not to drown my steak in it. I used the salsa sampler to spice it up a bit and that helped a lot. Waiter asked how I wanted my steak and I asked for medium. The steak was overcooked and more like well done but at least it was not tough. Not sure why they asked how I wanted the steak if they were just going to cook it however they wanted. Thin skirt steak doesn't take long to cook so getting it just right takes some know how. The rice and beans were ok but yet again just ok. She ordered the fajitas. Nothing special there. She used the salsa sampler to spice it up as well. Getting and using the salsa sampler helped enhance the flavor of our entrees. Not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing but you can decide for yourself. Service Service was pretty lousy. There were 6 customers in the place that includes the two of us. We ordered the appetizer and then the entrees. The salsa sampler appetizer came to the table after the food. Yes we sat there and waited for the salsa sampler like 30 minutes. The server did not deliver our food and did not check on us for the entire meal. The host delivered our food to the table and ran off before we could ask for water. To pay, I had to ask the host for my check then take it up to the front to pay out. He had to then get the server to take the time to pay us out. I never got a refill on my water. Salty chips make you thirsty and not having water was not fun for me. Definitely not the service I would expect from a Mexican restaurant that only had 6 customers at the time. Four of which were sitting at the bar. Drinks Prices were too high for me to try a drink. Not a fan of the $20 cocktails and etc. This place looks nice and has potential but what I experienced was far from validating the prices they charged. Happy Hunting Yelpers! read more

Quick Summary: Comparable quality to any sit down Mexican restaurant chain. Definitely was not "authentic" as the food was extremely Americanized. *This review is based on our experience- just because we had a bad one doesn't mean you won't like it.* We stopped by for lunch due to the solid reviews but was disappointed because the food we received was incredibly mediocre. Based on our experience, which was four separate dishes, everything was under seasoned and did not feel like fully constructed dishes. We appreciated that the guacamole wasn't expensive like many other places but it ended up tasting like slightly higher grocery store quality. The burritos and fish tacos were very disappointing. The house burritos were straight rice, beans, and meat (i.e. no cheese, onions, or pico de gallo) so there was no fresh or flavorful components. The fish tacos were BAD but the other tacos were good because they had more toppings (e.g. fresh cilantro, pico de gallo, and lime). read more

This is my third time to this place and the food is always good , but the service is soooo slow. It wasn't busy and there were 3 or 4 waiters/ waitresses and it took 15 min after being seated for someone to even acknowledge us. We put in drink and food orders at the same time and another 15 to 20 minutes later, we got the drinks and my wife's drink was wrong. The food wasn't too far behind the drinks. This place is the Bomb. They make all their salsas from scratch. They have regular...mild and of course spicy...... They make their own jalapeño poppers not bought frozen like most Mexican restaurants....they can make any dish spicy you just need to ask....I've been to many Mexican restaurants in the nashua/Manchester area and this is my goto place.... I get this Burrito chorizo and i have them cut up a jalapeño and put it in. You want real Mexican food FRESH you come here. read more

Was visiting family and went here for lunch. we had the salsa sampler and their sauces were sooo good! We used whatever was left on our lunches. One of us ordered the whole fish, which was amazing! Another had the carnitas with salsa verde - another yum! Mine was the shrimp stuffed chimichangas in cheese sauce and I asked for cut up fresh jalapeño. They added them to each chimichanga - can you say totally flavorful and delicious! And those chimichangas are the largest I have ever enjoyed and stuffed with delicious shrimp - of course the second made it home. Our server was excellent, the restaurant lovely and bright with an amazing patio! These along with their fabulous fresh food, will become a regular stop on our visits!! read more

Absolutely pleased with this place. This was a top notch experience from beginning to end. The first surprising thing was finding Mexican this good in Tudor shopping center in Amherst, NH. Once you get inside, though, it's all South of the Border. The interior in spotlessly clean and they have a lovely outdoor seating area. The wait staff (from the host, to the bus boy to the waiter) were incredible. Friendly, quick and always able offer spot on recommendations. The food was the best Mexican we've had outside of California. From scratch guacamole and dips. The wife and I got the house specialty burritos. First off...this is enough food for a family of four. Second, they're just really well done. Fresh, soft flour tortillas. Amazing from scratch filling (mine had chorizo sausage and grilled steak), and they didn't load up on the rice. Happened upon this restaurant on a drive home while looking for an early dinner. What find! One of the best Mexican restaurants we've been to. Loved all the seafood on the menu. So many choices it was hard to decide. We settled on the shrimp chimichanga and fish enchiladas. Both were delicious and surprisingly, my chimi tasted just as good reheated the next day ( have never had that happen before. They have a great outdoor patio and service was excellent. At dinner I asked my husband if we had room for one more in our marriage, the third being the chef at El Arroyo! This little restaurant located in the most bizarre Swiss village plaza is truly a hidden gem! The Jarrito Margarita is one of a kind and the salty/spicy margarita lovers dream! The appetizer platter was more then enough for 2-4 people and the meals themselves are simply incredible! The authenticity and love that goes into each and every dish is so prevalent. I was stunned to find such fantastic Mexican food in NH and it has now been bumped up to one of our favorite restaurants EVER! This is a great find for my girlfriend and I. The little village type shopping center is very cute and we wished the stores were still opened to window shop before dinner....... With that being said I am glad we did not go with that plan as the pack was packed within 20 minutes of us getting seated. My girlfriend had one of their margaritas and she said it was very tasty. It was prepared very quickly and brought out to the table. The chips and salsa were very good and I ordered the guacamole salsa which was $1.00 and was great to dip the chips in. Entrees were fairly good. My girlfriend had a salad without the avocado and I had the shrimp quesadilla. I thought the level of effort on the prep of the shrimp was weak and there was no crisp to the tortilla. It was blah and I ended up picking the shrimp out and eating them naked. As far as Contemporary Mexican restaurants go they are pretty damn good. Not as traditional as most places but still family owned with great food and portion size for the price. A bit more expensive than the average Mexican food restaurant for this area. But it is more upscale and their food on the menu (not the layout of the menu itself, mind you it does look kinda sketchy like something that was printed off generically off Microsoft word. They need to do a better job with the menu.. and descriptions) But the flavors and selections were great! I was also impressed with their extensive cocktail bar capabilities and their meat entrees! I had high hopes for taking my family to this restaurant after one good experience last year. Big disappointment. Actually the food was OK, but the service was poor. After 15 minutes we were full of chips but had no water. I had to ask for water at the bar. The food took 45 minutes to come after ordering it, my partner and daughter both had enchiladas that were not hot, and the potatoes served with one dish were cold inside. But we didn't dare complain as by the time we got our food we were famished. The sad thing is that the food does seem more wholesome than other area Mexican places, but I'll take the lesser quality food that comes out promptly and hot at the other restaraunts that also have better service . read more
