We just stopped there on our way back from Montana to Torrington, Wy. I found the restaurant on Yelp. Decided to try it and so glad we did. To start off, we had so many to come to our table to serve us and the y were all so friendly. The chips and salsa were great. I got the 3 cheese enchiladas with green sauce. Probably the best enchiladas I have ever had. The rice and beans were so tasty and good. My husband had the tamales which he thought was very good. Such a well decorated quaint place. Poor service and meh food. Staff inconsistently rotated visits to our table, which made ordering and follow-up service a below average experience. Ordered in two waves due to the late arrival of one guest at our table. The kids were served first as requested (first order), but the appetizer and main course arrived simultaneously in the second wave. Turkey burgers were average, french fries were real and good. Fish tacos were passable, accompanying rice and beans were passable and seriously gas-inducing. One staff member was fixated with his hair, running his fingers through it constantly while aimlessly staring into space and avoiding eye contact with guests. We waited for 15 minutes after finishing our meal to catch someone to get our check, similar to another nearby customer. Staffing seemed plentiful for customer-count, but a couple of them were disengaged and a couple overloaded accordingly. read more

Stopped here for dinner on a long drive across Wyoming and Montana. This is a great local spot, an authentic family-style Mexican restaurant. Chips and salsa were delicious. I ordered the carne adobado, a home-style marinated pork dish. It was perfectly prepared. They had live music that night, which added to the welcoming atmosphere. Either I was really hungry or the portions were a bit on the small side. I'm used to healthy portions at Mexican restaurants. It seemed like they nickel and dimed your for everything - Guacamole and sour cream on entrees were an additional $1.50 (I'm used to just seeing it on my entrees), first serving of chips/salsa free - 2nd servings cost $, and saw on the menu that they charge $1.50 for lettuce/tomato/cheese. I ordered the smothered beef chimichanga. It was about half size of a burrito. The tortilla was thick/multilayered and not crispy. I understand that it's smothered in sauce, but I was expecting it to be a little more crisp. It did not seem fried. For dessert we had the deep fried ice cream and cheesecake chimichanga. The coating on the ice cream was not warm and it was soggy - not crisp - lacking the deep fried quality I look for in a deep fried ice cream. The chimichanga was hot and rich and that tasted like it was deep fried. It came with two scoops of ice cream. The food was tasty and service was good. Maybe I should have ordered something else. read more

I myself have contemplated these questions many times, and it was only when I got to El Tapatio Dos that I discovered the answer. Yes, there is a God, and this restaurant is surely His work. Once I bit into my seafood chimichanga I saw a bright light, and heard the trumpets of the cherubim and seraphim, accompanying the divine rapture that my taste buds were experiencing. Every bite filled me not only with delicious Mexican food but also knowledge of our creator and His handiwork. On a lark, we decided to try this little place. It doesnt look like much; must've been Grandma's house at one time. Situated on North Main in Sheridan, the 'just a house' facade belies the pleasure to be found inside. I was absolutely delighted when I forked the green chile into my mouth. So rich, creamy, succulent. Oh man! I am hooked! I had a dish I cant pronounce, tender pork pieces smothered in green chile, topped with sweet fried onions, guac on the side, delicious refried beans that didnt have the texture and taste of those you usually get that have cooked all day and been watered down. Yum! A little lettuce/tomato garni to throw on the tortillas and you're good to go. Then she offered dessert.....Cheese cake quesadilla topped with chocolate and strawberry syrup, vanilla and chocolate ice cream on the side, a lil whipped cream. Oh boy! Talking to hubby on the way home, I decided this is going to be one of those places you start at the top of the menu and eat your way through. Walk in , waddle out! And...the service was great! Clean place. Real nice people. I was going to post a picture but we ate too fast! Maybe next time. Try it for yourself, you won't be sorry. You can call your order in to pick up too. We are locals and this is our favorite Mexican restaurant in Sheridan out of a fairly abundant variety to choose from. (My wife disagrees but my second favorite would be the "Roach Coach" called El Rodeo parked in the parking lot of the bowling alley on Coffeen Ave). In any case, El Tapatio Dos has a very authentic menu and a nice selection of traditional dishes. It is a husband Lance (a Gringo) and wife (Alecia, Mexican) team and they work hard and do a great job. The building is just an old shotgun home that has been fairly cutely converted to restaurant service. If the weather is nice, ask for a table in the backyard which is a simple but pleasant atmosphere. I've tried numerous dishes from the menu and never been disappointed. I'm particularly partial to the carnitas. read more

Simply amazing. Every dish we had was out of this world. The appetizer chips were fresh and the salsa was delicious. The kids loved their enchiladas. My wife's tamales disappeared as fast as we could shovel it in. Normally I leave the rice and beans after I finish my entree (taquito carbon) but not here: the rice actually has flavor! We are from Montana and are not aware of any Mexican restaurants here that come even close to the food quality or the intimate Mexican family ambiance that are standard here. I was on a road trip with friends driving from Cody, WY to Deadwood, SD and we needed a place to eat at the half way point. We hit Sheridan, WY at our half way point driving I90 and started looking for places to eat. I saw a sign advertising McDonald's, Pizza Hut and Country Kitchen, it didn't look promising, but we had to eat somewhere. We took the exit (20) to Main Street and took a look at all three and decided to keep driving. My sister saw this charming mexican restaurant on the left and we agreed to eat there for lunch. The owner (Alicia) was friendly and enthusiastic, she brought us complimentary chips and salsa and some menus. I want to note that the decor in this charming restaurant helps set a fun tone, from the fountain in the front, to the fresco Spanish dancers on the wall, it really enhanced the overall experience. We ordered the Taquitos al Carbon, the Cheese Enchiladas and the Tacos Adobado. All of them were excellent, but I was most impressed with the Tacos Adobado! We also ordered horchata (so good!) For dessert Alicia charmed us into buying churros even though we were full. It was totally worth it! This is a great place, and especially if you're driving through town, don't stop at McDonald's give this place a try. read more

It's a charming little old house on Main Street, with about 10 tables. I went there because some friends ate there the week before and raved about the carne adobado. The owners, while present in the dining room, were very inattentive to the food being served to any but their regular customers. If you're a local and go there frequently, you're an honored guest and the difference in attentiveness between them and the drop-in trade is painfully obvious. Otherwise, the service was slow ... as in they took a long time to deliver the hot entre which had cooled off by the time it was delivered to me. Nobody came by to check on the food or top off my beverage until I'd almost finished eating, at which time it was a moot point. One owner seemed particularly engrossed in discussing a restaurant business at an adjacent table with folk who were seeking to expand their restaurant from a loncheria to a storefront location. It was interesting because it was a discussion about how to do the food service business right from a going restaurant and they weren't coming close to doing so in their own establishment that evening. But what really stood out was the incredibly poor quality/preparation of the food. Starting with the totally bland salsa and the grocery store quality chips ... The carne adobado I was presented had the tinge of red from some exposure to some achioto paste, but it wasn't marinated. With no flavor in the meat, and it was cooked to a dried out consistency somewhat suitable for shoe leather, it was a huge disappointment requiring a sharp knife to be able to hack through it. Worse still, it was smothered in a bland, almost white, "green sauce" that had a week's worth of salt as it's primary ingredient. There was no piquancy, not even a suggestion of chili pepper heat in the sauce, but it was so overwhelmingly SALT that I had to scrape it off the piece of pork to be able to eat that. There was about a teaspoon's worth of shredded lettuce on the side, which didn't do much to complement the carne. The rice and beans were bland, without any character at all. You simply cannot make up for the lack of seasoning cooked into such a dish by having a couple of bottles of sauce on the table. Given the minimal portion size and that I was hungry, usually I'd clean a plate. But this place was so bad that I left over 1/2 the food on the plate. At $10 for this entree, it's a borderline rip-off for value, too. There's not a couple ounces of pork on the plate, and a couple tablespoons each of beans and rice. Food cost for this dish couldn't be much more than a dollar. This place didn't even rise to the level of gringo food for the New York City crowd. If you like the selection of mexican style food in your grocer's frozen or canned food sections, then you'd do better to shop there and microwave a meal. Bad as it is, Taco John's (a Wyoming based mexican themed eatery) with their take on the gooey gloppy cheesey mexican paradigm puts this place to shame, even Taco Bell has more flavor in their beans. read more

It's a bright little house, with outdoor seating available, service was great, we were very well taken care of. I got the Taquitos Al Carbon. Hands down best tacos I've ever had. The guac was so fresh and tasty, flavorful meat, and served with a lime! Even the chips and salsa they gave us before hand was notably yummy. We stopped in here on our way from Oregon to Minnesota based on Yelp reviews. We were not at all disappointed. The food and service were both superb. We really enjoy family owned restaurants and this one is excellent. I had the Carne Adobado and the pork was perfectly cooked in a wonderful tomatillo sauce. Contrary to someones earlier review the salsa is definitely not from a jar and is homemade. All food here is authentic, believe me. If ever in this area again, we will stop by this oh so friendly restaurant. read more
