Overall it's an ok place nice decor friendly staff good food but I feel 14$ for 3 rellenos is a bit over the top

Excellent! Chili rellenos were awesome. The "small" margaritas were big. Can't be happier

The staff is incredibly nice and friendly. Their margarita is very good. Food could be better. I would come back again though. Nice people.

This is the first time I've been to this location ( I usually go to their location in Lakewood.) Our server was friendly but a service was slow. We ordered nachos as our appetizer they were good, but the jalapeño we from a can not fresh. Otherwise our food and dinning experience was good. Not sure if I would come back to this location tho. read more

Good service, and the bartender makes a great Presidente and Coke! Had a great time having friends getting together and great drinks! The margaritas are huge! read more

This place has alright food. Not any better than I can make at home. The service at this place in particular is TERRIBLE. My husband and I waited almost 10 minutes to be seated and then a large family came in behind us. They were seated first! Unbelievable. I am utterly disappointed. read more

Food was hot and came fast. Tasted good. Staff is friendly. Mexican music in background but lots of screens tuned to different sports channels. read more

Everything was delicious, I wish we had known how big the dishes were before we order, on the other hand the 18% tip was added to out total without us knowing. Good food though. read more

Got my order wrong. The enchilada was covered so I had to "open" it a bit to see what was inside. The prepackaged "cheese" inside wasn't even melted. Discussing food and I will never return. Too many choices for better mexican food. read more

You need to check on what you are ordering. Everything is covered in green chili evan items that don't say so.

I gave it a try. Messed up my order. Replacement wasn't good but I was un a hurry so i ate it. We've all ben there. Generally dirty. Steer clear unless desperate read more

I've been here quite a bit, and usually I would give 4 stars for the food quality and excellent service- but my most recent experience makes me wonder if I should ever go back. We entered the restaurant a little after 5 PM. We were greeted with a line. A waiter came out and asked the person in the front of the line if he had been helped, to which the gentleman replied 'Yes'. So the waiter just turned around and left, causing the person in front of us to mutter. Not off to a great start. Ahh we were so lucky that this waiter was OUR waiter. Usually, we receive chips, salsa and some water before we can even get settled into our seats. No such luck this time. Our busboy took our drink order, and THEN, almost 5 minutes later we still didn't have our drinks. Our smooth-talking waiter sure seemed more interested in whatever was happening in the bar than taking care of us. One of us spilled a drink and used a napkin, and when our waiter took our order, she asked for another one. No big deal right? Just go grab one. Nope. We didn't get one until after we said something. When we did, he made a smart-ass comment and STILL didn't bring us a replacement napkin. Our meal took forever to get there, but it was great- the only reason why I didn't give one star. Our waiter casually mentioned that the food was taking a long time while my drink remained unfilled for virtually the entire meal. My feeling is that he never put the meal in. Despite our obvious unhappiness, we never spoke to a manager- we never got so much as an "I'm sorry" about the food, the drinks, even the frickin' chips and salsa. The worst part about all this is that there was no one else in the restaurant when we sat down. I'm not naive- I know that servers are busiest when the restaurant looks empty. I just don't appreciate people treating myself and my family rude for no reason whatsoever. Isn't the customer #1? My family might come back, but I'll tell you this- I'm never recommending this restaurant to anyone I know, nor am I dining her by choice again. Rude service lost my business. Sorry El Tapatio. read more

When I come to sit and eat I have no problems even tho my wife hates it and swears it's out the can food. Sometimes I wonder. But came to order to go and they don't treat you like customers like I was a ghost read more

Service was excellent! We were seated fast, and everyone was on the ball, literally running from the tables to the kitchen. They were very friendly! I also like the quiet atmosphere- music was at a decent volume and we could talk without yelling at each other. Food was good too. We were delighted to find that they actually provided enough tortillas for the fajitas - most restaurants do not. My husband felt like the food needed more salt (easy fix), but overall the food was good. I wouldn't say it was unusually awesome compared to other Mexican restaurants, but it was right in there with the flavor and quality. We will come again! read more

The service was great and the chips and queso dip was good. However, everything else was flavorless and disappointing. My mom and I both ordered steak fajitas and even with the peppers and onions it was completely flavorless. We added salt and pepper and the fajitas were still not worth eating. We each ate less than half of our meal and left hungry - that is saying a lot because fajitas are one of my favorite meals. The kids both ordered beef tacos and the beef was very weird tasting - not what I would have expected for tacos. They both ended up taking the meat out and eating the tortillas with cheese. All four of our beans were cold. read more

One of my favorite Mexican spots in town! The service is unbeatable, friendly, attentive staff that check up regularly, keep our drinks topped off and make sure we are happy. And they were great with our 2 year old, talking and joking her and making the whole family feel welcome. The food is good, I've had stale chips once or twice but the salsa is great and the entrees have always been hot, delicious and generously portioned. My favorite part was the cucumber margarita! I'll be back for many reasons but this margarita was absolutely to die for, I'm craving it just writing about it :) read more

This place is no frills, but the food is good and portions are HUGE. Happy hour is also just ok- a dollar off beers and a dollar or two off house margaritas. Definitely not where I would go for a date or special occasion. read more

Always amazing food! Great drinks! The michelada is a must try with pacifico! The molcajete combo is never a fail! Never had bad service! Love this place! read more

Great food, fast friendly service, the fresh fruit marg's are very good. The only problem I have is the parking lot always has trash in it. The outside of any restaurant should be clean of trash. It's the first impression. I happened to go twice in one week and the same trash was still there. The dirty parking lot is the only reason I give it 3 stars. read more

I don't understand the bad reviews. We found the service to be excellent. Our waiter (Angel) came by several times during the meal, the manager (Cesar) came by three times, the bus person kept checking on us - really attentive staff. The food was great. I had the Camarones Rellenos, which was delicious. My companion had the fish fajitas - not many restaurants offer fish fajitas. All the food came hot, and the portions were large. I do not claim to be an expert on Mexican food, but we both really enjoyed out dinner for both the food and the experience, and we will be going back to this restaurant. The menu is so extensive it is hard to know what to order, and I am looking forward to trying many of the other dishes offered here. read more

Not Since I lived near Guadalupe, CA have I had Mexican this good. everything tasted fresh and delicious. The portions were huge everyone was friendly, and the service was fantastic. at least four different people checked on us and we were the only people on the patio I thought we were going to be forgotten about, but we were not. I had the combination cocktail which was absolutely LOADED with all of the good stuff there is no skimping here. I like the atmosphere and music. we are already planning on going back. It was incredible, best Mexican I've found around here. Also in response to the people getting take out, It's appropriate to look first to make sure you have everything you ordered before you get home. This place is the greatest. read more

Their food is good and their service was great. My Tacos al Carbon were unusually spicy (the jalapeno crop was especially spicy this year?) and when I notified the server refilling my water of the problem, our waiter came over immediately to address the situation. I had a new un-jalapenoed set of tacos within 5 minutes. House Margarita was great too. I would go back in a heartbeat. read more

The Banana-Orange Margarita deserves 5 Stars...everything else was- "Meh". My friend and I stopped in here late one evening. We were seated and waited a bit for our waitress to arrive. When she did, we asked her what kind of flavored margarita's they had. She listed a few and seemed a bit flustered, ( I think there was a language barrier). She then said she'd be "right back." Ten minutes later a gentlemen approached us and took our drink order. Ten minutes after that we got our drinks. By then we were ready to order food but no one came to check on us. There were three servers talking to each other at the bar and another three servers talking to each other in the front. We flagged down the first waitress who told us again, "I'll be right back." A few minutes later the gentlemen returned and took our order. The same waiting game occurred when waiting for the to-go boxes and for the check. The whole time there was maybe 5 or 6 other customers in the whole place and the staff continued to sit around, chatting. I was annoyed and my burrito was not worth waiting around for. My friend enjoyed her combo platter (#10, I think), but the lack of service just killed the mood. I felt guilty for only leaving a $3 tip, but what can I say? At least they got something for sitting around. To give them some credit, the prices were actually pretty reasonable and if you like really spicy salsa with too much cilantro- this place is a good pick. Maybe when they are busier they are more on their game... read more

We love this restaurant for its friendly wait staff and great tasting food. Mexican food is made for Coca Cola, but the management has seen fit to switch to Pepsi Cola. This makes me very sad. read more

Service was very good but the fish tacos were horrible. Somewhere in the sea of oil were little chunks of fish but it was so greasy I couldn't even pick up a 3 ply tortilla. They were too soggy from soaking in oil. I've never seen them served like that anywhere including Mexico. read more

Bad service!, Horrible food! When we got our food it was cold! The ladies there thought we didn't speak Spanish and when we returned the cold food they got mad and started talking crap about us! We didn't even wait to get another plate because of that, we didn't trust if they would do something to our food. They have an attitude like they don't need customers, i would not recommend it to friends, family or anyone. read more

My brother was in town from California so the whole family met there for dinner. First, they couldn't get the drink order correct, but charged for premium liquor. They didn't know what a Hot Chocolate was, even though it's listed on the menu as Hot Cocoa. The fried Chimichanga came out unfried like an overstuffed/uncooked burritos and the kids entrees came out on at a time. On entree came out after the adults were almost finished with their dinners and the fish she ordered was favorless and dried. Waiter was too busy to check on us. When the chef came out and asked how the food was, he got upset when we said, terrible and walked away. We finally asked to speak to the manager and our waiter said he was the manager. Not sure that was true. We weren't looking for a free meal, just an edible one. At one time, this was one of my favorite spots, but this was the third time of bad food and horrible service. I guess, third time is a charm to take business somewhere else. I guess because we went on a Friday night and they were busy, they just don't need our business, therefore they will no longer get it. Too bad, my tab is in triple figures all of the time when I go there. read more

With so many mexican resturants in town, this one is okay. There are much better ones. The staff is good. The food is not that great. Like a glorified Taco Bell. Not much flavor. Do yourself a favor and go to a better place. read more

We planned a surprise party for a friend. When I called to make a reservation I was informed they don't take reservations. I was told that if I got there early they would get us a table. I arrived an hour prior to when our guests were arriving, with it being a surprise party, not everyone would be there at the same time. The staff was incredibly rude and 100% unwilling to accommodate our group. I will never go back to this place. Our party was accommodated and treated fantasticly at another restaurant...where we spent about $1000 for dinner and drinks...good choice losing our business! read more

Stopped for drinks and apps. The margs a medium size is 14.99 ..So had beer instead . The staff is not able to take your money when you are ready to leave-the Gm was only one to take money. There were four folks on the patio - all staff. read more

Terrible, weird service. I came in by myself the other day hungover only wanting to sit and have a burrito. One waitress asked me what i wanted to drink. I told her I'd just have a water please and she looked appalled. 2 seconds later her manager came and asked me what I wanted to drink and I politely told him the other waitress was bringing me a water. Sorry, I know your job is to upsell, but don't act like I'm some juvenile delinquent with no intention of tipping just because I don't want anything fancy to drink. When the pesky manager brings me my burrito, I was reading something on my phone and wasn't really paying attention to my surroundings he says, "LOOK" and sets of down in front of me. Wtf?! Lol. No, "enjoy your meal", no "here we are", no nothing, just "LOOK", and walks away. The burrito also smelled like toilet water It was slow as molasses in there also, but not once did anyone ask if I wanted my water refilled or how my food was, just dirty looks. I won't be coming here again. Haha read more

We have been going here for years. Yesterday we went and the prices have really increased. The service we got from Alma was almost non-existent. The food was terrible. There was no flavor in the shredded beef. We will not be back. read more

Great service. Fun family restaurant with full bar. Large menu -- combinations are okay but the real gems are in the carnitas and shrimp entrees. As we were leaving another diner's food arrived -- sizzling fajitas and boy did it smell delish -- I have made note to try that next time!! We had a good dining experience here -- from the hostess to the wait staff and food. This was our 2nd visit and service was great both times (food probably was too but we had a negative diner with us that ruined the experience -- no fault of the restaurant). read more

Dined here Monday afternoon, wished I hadn't! My brother and I met our mother & uncle, sat inside. The gentleman who initially greeted us was pleasant, the young man who took over was NOT! Being a beautiful day we asked if we could relocate to the patio (which was empty) and the staff accommodated us. Honestly, from this point on service became very negative causing us to become uncomfortable! The gentleman who was our server was not only rude but seemed genuinely upset with us, some much so that we where intimidated to ask for anything else, napkins, water refill, ANYTHING! Once the food was delivered we never saw him again! Upon leaving (18% tip, unjustified) the rest of the staff was VERY polite & positive and I honestly wished they had been our server! I myself work in the hospitality industry as a server and am usually very sympathetic to a fellow server, but this gentleman was SOOO disgruntled and rude! DEAR MANAGEMENT, word of mouth is the strongest form of advertising, from here on out my word of mouth is to avoid this establishment at all cost (btw, my family and I are Mexican American)!!!!! read more

Food arrived fast but just luke-warm. Green chili (?) was watery and made with small pieces of hamburger instead of pork. The real kicker is the huge price increases since two weeks ago. Most menu items are $12.90 and up. Absolutely not worth it anymore! read more

I'm really surprised that there are any reviews less than four stars. I love very close and this is our go-to spot for Mexican. Food is always awesome. It comes out fast and hot and is always delicious. There are two reasons why my review is not five stars. 1) the drink ordering process needs help. I'm guessing that newer wait staff are the ones that get drinks when you sit down, I don't really know, but the system isn't smooth. 2) seems they have a little trouble sitting larger groups. Overall, this is a great Mexican joint and probably the best in Old Town. read more

I am very disappointed recently someone planned a surprise birthday for me here, there was a call ahead of time and the table wasn't ready upon our arrival. Once we were seated our group ordered and when the food was brought out it was cold and those that had tortillas with their orders never got them along with that my nephews chicken tenders fell on the table and the the waiter picked them up and placed them back on his plate for him to eat them (YUK), we proceeded on and the person whom ordered first didn't get her food (soup) until 25-30 minutes after everyone else got their food and at that point everyone had ate their food, we asked for a cup to go since the rest of the party was leaving. When we asked for a manager the waiter was rude and then the manager stated the waiter told him we ordered it to go (LIE) we kept explaining to him and he was 100% supportive of the waiter, the manager refused to work with us on the meal, we paid over $300 on our tab (-) a bowl of soup $15.00. We are extremely disappointed because we drive out, which is way out of our way to get what is normally great food and great service, the waiter went as far as calling the police because we refused to pay for the $15.00 soup that basically didn't come until after everyone was finished and started to leave. The police came out and were very disappointed in the service that was provided and said we were good to leave and take the soup, since the horrible waiter got our plate number we stood by to rectify the issue and left the soup! Ridiculous and poor service on the waiter and manager that day. read more

I accidentally ordered my take-out from the wrong location, and the hostesses and server were so understanding. They sped up my order for five people and we were in and out within 10 minutes! My family and I came all the way from Brighton because we haven't had El Tapatio in months and I love their service and food. We would come every other week when we lived near by. But tonight it started raining on our heads!! Yes you read that right, RAINING INSIDE,!!! Turns out, there was someone on the roof messing with the AC during business hours and I don't know what they did but it started raining on our table. Well we moved across the restaurant to a dry table, ordered, had drinks, and dessert, the bill came and I was very surprised to see that not one thing was compted!! I wasn't expecting the whole bill but at least our dessert or 1 round of drinks. The manager didn't even come over and talk to us!!!
