Taco Plate

It has good service, and no ambiance, but the food is very good. The beans and rice are really good, as well as the tacos! They taste so fresh! The sauces provided aren't bad either! I also tried the horchata, and it was smooth, not gritty!

Today I had super taco with a buddy and all I'm going to say is WOW! I had the asada fries and they were amazing with obviously the fries but also the cheese, sour cream and guacamole. The one downside is that the asada wasn't that great.. but that's besides the point. The service was great, quick and helpful. This is truly real authentic Mexican restaurant down to the food but also the scenery.

asada fries

I ended up getting the Asada Fries and they were delicious but there was a huge difference in ratio between fries and everything else, the carne asada was very minimal and little flavor, other than that service was great, Horchata was good but a bit too sweet. I also love the decorations here and the lighting.

We love this place. My wife is a vegetarian and she always gets the veggie burrito. I on the other hand love their lingua and their Carnitas or Asada burritos, but my favorite is their cheesesteak burrito that has french fries inside. A true gringo delight but really damn good Oh and their combo platters and tacos are amazing The photos are from our latest visit, very flavor chicken fajita burrito.

Without question, the best Taqueria in Eugene! The Mexican Mercado on 7th is a close second.

The most Caucasian tacos I've ever experienced. To compare this to authentic Mexican food wouldn't…read moreeven be in the same ballpark. My wife and I ordered 4-5 tacos in order to get a good breadth of their specialty options (as well as their chips and salsa). Everything needed significant salt due to blandness and muted flavor. It didn't matter what it was. The service was subpar. I witnessed the cashier cajoling casually with the college girls in front of me and when I got my turn, the server went deadpan with minimal tolerance/silence as I gave her my order. The first thing she said to me was my total and nothing else after. When I later interacted with the other front counter employee, she also blankly stared at me when I asked about silverware and then I answered my own question when I saw them at a nearby station. Go to any random chain and that behavior is not tolerated at all. The table we sat down at had food debris from the previous diner and it was clear routine table cleaning was not happening (despite it not even being a rush period). That being said, the atmosphere-style is chill and very standard for Eugene in its eclectic approach. If the food and service were enhanced, it would allow the ambiance to speak better for the overall experience. As a local, after hearing this place be ranted and raved about for over a decade, I'd have to say I'm severely underwhelmed. I'd easily opt to go to something authentic like El Taco Express in Springfield or even a large chain like Chipotle or Baja Fresh before I'd dip my 'buds back into this option. It's clear the Eugene local clientele is keeping this place propped, because no tourist would ever come back around a second time. (P.S. my wife says two stars is too generous.)

Food ordered: sopes, chills relleno plate and al carbon tacos. Drinks: hinky pinky and the special margarita blackberry and hibiscus. Food came out hot, tasted delicious and was filling. Even had leftovers. The real star was the blackberry hibiscus margarita special. Not only did it taste amazing, fresh and the right amount of tart and sweet, the bartender came over to thank us for ordering and explain the recipe was based on her childhood memories with her grandmother. Nelson's is the place I will recommend anytime I visit Eugene and someone I'm with wants Latin American / Mexican food. No pictures because I was too busy enjoying the food, drinks, ambience and time with friends.

She gave us chips and salsa as well as our water the moment we sat down. We ordered from their Happy Hour menu. We got the Best of Nelson's Sampler for $15.99, Nelson Burrito for $9.99, and Carne Asada Fries for $10.99. Food came all at once. Felt the Best of Nelson's Sampler was not worth the $15.99. The sampler came with one soft taco, one hard taco, two taquitos, and one enchilada. The beef was dry and hard. The burrito was really dry and we had to ask for sauces. Our waitress gave us a red and green sauce. The red sauce was really spicy. The green sauce was mildly spicy and went well with the burrito. The Carne Asada Fries was good, but the ink from the liner transferred to the cheese. Overall, it's a good place to hang out. Food wasn't great, but service was fantastic. If we had to come back, we would probably get a wet burrito to try.
