The food itself was very good, chicken was perfectly cooked and fall off the bone tender. The cilantro rice was flavorful, probably could use a bit of salt. Even the yuca (which i normally dont like) doused with sweet sauce was good. My only 2 strikes against this place...they allow a bunch of ppl behind me in line who spoke in Spanish to cut me and order ahead of me. Also, it's very pricey for what you get by food cart standards. $9 for a platter with 1 small drumstick of chicken, Rice, and 2 pieces of yuca

I tried this cart after reading about it on the NY Street Food Blog and was planning to the fish or…read moreveal heart but there was no pescado when I went and I decided to take the advice on the menu that the Lomo Saltado is "The Best" and it was very good. The beef strips were remarkably tender and the onions fried just right (which for me is no small compliment I'm very particular about onion consistency). I'm also generally skeptical about anything that has french fries as an ingredient, or fries period (I feel bad when the Frites and Meats guys urge me to get fries with their burgers and I see the sadness on their face when I have to turn them down), but it worked in this case. The meat juices and tart cooking sauce settled nicely below the dish and by the time I got to the french fries they were all swollen with goodness. I don't know if everyone would see that as a plus but I do. The rice was as good as white rice can be - again thanks to the brothy liquid. Still, I think "the best" is a stretch. I was watching them prepare other customers' meals and getting lots of cooking vapors and am not sure I choose the best dish for me. I admire that they are excellent ambassadors of Peruvian cuisine - offering less familiar dishes to a midtown crowd that generally lines up for burgers and it's a good value with big portions for under $10. Personality counts a lot for me and they were super sweet. Of course, part of why I'm so devoted to the street vendors is I have never encountered a sullen or jerky street vendor and most are downright enthused. In any case, I'll definitely be back to this one. They are right next to my shoeshine guy, the legendary "Sir, the shoes, how long are you going to ignore that?!" Don.

There are many food trucks in the area. Once you go up Broadway towards 23rd St from Union Square…read moreyou will see one on each block. This is one of the "lesser" food trucks out there... I was determined to try all the food trucks nearby so I know where to go and what not to eat. I decided to give Bongo Brothers a try. The guy welcomed me in a really friendly manner. He was real cool... I saw the menu online so I knew what I wanted. I decided to get the Mojo Chicken A la Plancha. The Mojo Chicken A la Plancha consists of citrus and garlic marinated grilled chicken and white onions with your choice of Bongo Sauce (spicy) or mojo aioli sauce. The guy suggested the Bongo Sauce. So I went with it. They do offer sides as well such as empanadas, black beans, plantains and tostones. The tostones were only a $1 so I decided to try them. They were crispy with loads of flavor from the Lime Salt. That was the only good thing from my meal... The Mojo Chicken was good, but dry. You can really taste the citrus flavor, but you tend to lose it cause of the dry meat. The rice and beans really lacked some flavor and the portions were not really that ideal for the price of $9. Verdict: Pass on grabbing a bite here, but do try the Tostones.

We've been ordering takeout from Delicias for a while now, on and off when we can't go to Coatzingo or Puebla, so we're already familiar with the PROS and CONS of this place. Yes, they do season their food well, I'll give them that. However, they do not go by their printed menu at all, the menu they themselves give out to takeout customers. For example, of all the burritos we've ever ordered, not a single one looked like the burrito in the menu pic - no cream drizzled on top and no side salad (as per the burrito menu description). Their burritos are cut in the middle and wrapped in paper and then in aluminum foil; obviously delicias skimps on packaging. This was a first for me bc I've been ordering takeout from Coatzingo from years and I always get a round foil container with a plastic top, and inside an uncut burrito with cream on top and a beautiful side salad. Coatzingo, unlike Delicias, sells you what's shown and described in their menu. Another thing, delicias are very stingy with their sauces. More than once I've gotten one funny picante sauce concoction instead of your typical two sauces, one red and one green. I've also gotten tacos from them with a very limited amt of green taco sauce, plus old looking radishes. Tonight we ordered chicken green enchiladas from there out of convenience, so close to home and $14.90 each was a reasonable price point. What a big mistake!!! Again, these people don't go by their own menu. The waitress charged me $43.28 tax included, $19.90 per enchilada. I couldn't believe what was happening, felt conned, and sensed that if I budged, they weren't gonna respect my rights as a customer. The woman automatically went on the defensive, practically blaming me as if I had told her over the phone enchiladas POBLANAS $19.90, no, I said green enchiladas, not poblanas. Good thing I speak Spanish, if not she would've continued taking advantage of me, I held my ground. She then called another older lady, the head cook I guess. This woman knew I had ordered correctly, she wasn't doubting me, but, as expected, stubborn as heck, the 'I'm right, you're wrong' type. These ppl obviously know next to nothing about customer service, and absolutely nothing about menus, it's Mickey mouse-clown menus. This woman proceeded to tell me, 'these menus here, they are the old menus, the owner is in the process of replacing the menus, etc.' Say what???? So if they are outdated, why are you guys still giving them out? Why are they still next to you on your restaurant counter with the same exact 'old' prices??? Also, why hasn't your website been updated to reflect these changes? Extremely unprofessional. I told her it wasn't right, if I had known ahead of time the actual price I would've never ordered from them to begin with, saving myself having to reason with unprofessional, stubborn, not-customer oriented people (and to pay $19.90 for what they actually give you, that's highway robbery). 'Oh, you know (trying to make me feel guilty), prices are going up everywhere, products are so expensive for us now.' Well, everyone is feeling the price hike, not just you guys. The gall, to raise your prices and your food is not up to snuff, you're basically cutting corners, being greedy. I was about to walk away leaving the food there when she said, 'Oh, I'll call the owner, get his consent before charging you the menu price.' I ended up paying the menu price but not without more attitude from the good ole waitress, who literally kept scratching her head bc she couldn't figure out how to write up a new ticket and kept asking the cook if $14.90 was the real price and they had taxed me, basically making me feel like I was cheating them out of money. You know, I should've not paid for anything and left the food right there with them. I felt so cheated eating those enchiladas, there wasn't much chicken, it was boiled and had little taste to it, and matters worse, it was dark meat, leg meat and they hadn't fully removed the cartilage/tendon things you find in chicken leg meat, I removed some chunks of that stuff. Also there was barely any green enchilada sauce. Honestly, we were the ones who were cheated not them. These old women kept repeating, 'this is the first complaint we've gotten, thank God no one else has complained.' I guess these customers of theirs don't complain bc they don't read the menu and many of them only speak Spanish as their main and only language and wouldn't know about the menu descriptions nor would be inclined to leave an online review. In conclusion, never again, we're moving on. They've lost our patronage for good. If NYC restaurants keep on this trajectory, offering less (lower quality) for more $$$, then it'll be more home cooking for us. https://deliciasdemexicorestaurant.com/menu-1
