Guided by Yelp, came by for some lunch. Had steak sandwich per counterman's recommendation. It was great! Crispy bread (had crust flakes all over by time I was done), melty cheese, real steak pieces (saw it come from the butcher side, looked like a good piece and fresh too), pepper/onion grilled with a nice sauce. Big hero sized for $6. Too bad I don't live near, or I'd be here more often. Will have to visit more with kiddies, Hall of Science in Corona near by. Main traffic went for the buffet side where the $8 platter was filled to the top with whatever the customer wants. Big enough to feed two, IMHO. Dated interior, but who cares. Real neighborhood place, with regular customers visiting and talking with everyone. Not too many of these places around anymore. read more

Well, to me, finding cheap, good tasty food restaurants (places) in Corona has been a little hard. There are lots of Dominican, Mexican and Fast food restaurants that are GREAT and cheap as well but there are days that you want to eat something different and that's exactly what happened to me yesterday, I wanted something other than Dominican or Mexican food. I found this place scrolling down on Yelp and called right away to make sure they were still open. Once i walked in the Deli the guy I spoke on the phone with (Franco) recognized me right away ((I don't know how btw)). There was the hot food bar and they explained to me how it work, since i didn't know what to pick out of all the plates they had the guy started giving me little pieces to try and make a decision. I ended up having fried chicken, pulled pork, eggplant parmigiana, spinach and broccoli... Everything was DELICIOUS!!!! I am definitely coming back, it will definitely become my place to go in Corona. read more

Franco's is a neighborhood deli and meat shop that has not changed their operations since the '70s. Franco makes everything in-house and from scratch. I was there early enough to see him rolling and stuffing chicken. There's a lot of love in those homemade meals. He was super friendly and welcoming which I could taste in his food. He seems to rotate some items in and out of his daily menus so you won't know what you'll be getting that day but it's sure to be a pleaser. I tried the sandwiches with freshly sliced cured meats and a side of the lemon chicken. It was all good in the 'hood. It's hidden gem tucked away in a neighborhood as many place in the area are. This place is a little off the grid and the interior is a bit dated........but the food is absolutely fantastic. I've been coming here off and on for a few years now and have tried many of their food choices. They have a weekly rotating menu for hot food and always have the Italian staples. I've never had a bad meal here. Today I had a steak hero with sautéed onions and provolone which was so awesome, I had to order another one to go so I can bring it home. The beauty of this place is that it's also a butcher shop......so the meat is always fresh. A hidden gem would be an understatement. read more

A real Italian sandwich!! Not knowing Franco's, my cousin(from Tampa) and I(from KC) decided to stop by for a sandwich on the way to the Royals vs Mets baseball game. We had read the great reviews on this place. We had to check it out. The cold cuts were great and the bread was soft with a crispy exterior. It was drizzled with olive oil and basalmic vinegar and any other fixings we wanted to throw on the sandwich! It was made just the way you want it! Well I rarely do a five star review but francos deserves more than five stars this location makes you some of the best heroes and sandwiches in Queens, plus Franco the owner of this location is so nice and so full of spirit that he puts his blood sweat and tears into all the food that he makes. His brother Johnny is the same way. They are always there together having a good time making people laugh making sure everybody is comfortable. They make it such a great atmosphere. In the words of Johnny -- "No disprespect, but we're not the chinos or the guy at the bodega, we're here to talk shit, you know, no sensitive little boys, we're men, we talk shit hahaha" ... and thats just what happened. While he made my sandwich, as well as while I was eating, we talked shit, the friendly type of shit you would expect to talk with an old school Italian from Corona, funny but respectful. The jokes and genuine hospitality provided a great environment to eat an awesome sandwich. A HIDDEN GEM! Work a few blocks away and always passed by but never actually went inside. Decided to check out what all the hype was about from my coworkers and oh gosh were they right! Had the best stuffed veal roast ever. It was stuffed with proscuitto, swiss, mozzarella , herbs, spices and covered in bacon. It was amazing! My husband even made a soup with the last remnants so every bit of it was eaten. Just amazing. read more

I discovered Franco's over a year ago when I searched for Mama's. I love his homemade sausages and can't bring myself to buy sausages from a supermarket ever again. Today I tried Johnny's real Steak Sandwich and a sampling of his Hot foods. Everything was fresh and delicious. Prices were very reasonable and I will definitely be back for more. They only have two tables for two...so best to take out. Where Franco's lacks in decor, they make it up in genuine friendliness. I met Johnny for the first time today. The interior is dated as previously mentioned. I would say that you might be stepping back maybe 2 decades. It's cool for me to see old decor. The deli shop offers hot food and deli sandwiches. The hot food was a lot more appealing- but I passed up on mash potato. Gotta cut out carbs (post holiday diet). I got myself a steak hero w/ onion, pepper and cheese. The menu for the deli sandwiches is pretty limited. I saw steak hero, grilled chicken, cutlet chicken and breaded chicken as the meat options. The thing going for them are the prices. It's only the lower end of some deli shops, but within range of their competitors. The food was okay- standard ingredients cooked together w/ no special sauce or approach. I had a lot better sandwiches in the neighborhood and throughout NYC. I'm not sure why it is rated so highly, but I am not going to rain on their gem. It works for others and looks like they have a local following. For me, it is once and done. read more

Found this friendly neighborhood gem after craving a mama's special and finding them closed for vacation until 7/21. Anyway I ordered an Italian sandwhich that Franco made while I waited. He is witty, warm and full of ilfe. It's easy to see why this place is around for 40 years. The sandwich itself was nice, with the right amount of cold cuts n cheeses. If you like a stuffed sandwich, just say so and they will accommodate you. The bread itself was crisp on the outside and firm but fluffy on the inside. All in all, I would call this a good quick fix and worthy of a return visit. read more
