So I've carried away from here before after my yoga class, at RADIANT FLOW yoga across the street. The food was good and the service was friendly. I experienced the same thing today. Typically I don't sit at restaurants if I feel like I tipping is not in my budget. Today I decided to support my local community. My food came out fast and warm and equally is delicious. The atmosphere was easy, comfortable in the restaurant was clean. A question sitting in. My server forgot about me. The restaurant wasn't crowded but after I finished my meal, he did check on me once and at that point I told him I would love to have a to go box. I waited at least 15 minutes for that box. I literally turned around in my seat and looked outward and watched him as his back was turned to me several times. Of course I could always get him to acknowledge me, but I wanted to see how long it was gonna take. It's my day off and I didn't have anywhere to rush off too, but it's just the principal. His bigger tables got his attention first. I genuinely dine alone, but I do pride myself in being a good tipper. Being in the luxury service industry, I appreciate good service and I think it should be rewarded. read more

Dont let the outside fool you Although it is at the end of a strip mall and not fancy, it is full of flavor on the inside. The ambiance is light and cheery. A friend recommended it as she goes there all the time. Apparently they have happy hour specials that are a big hip and not available all the time. If you're looking for your traditional Tex Mex, chips and salsa kind of restaurant, go to el Rocio. I'm lucky enough to work down the street, and this is one of my favorite lunch spots. Service is quick and friendly, the portions are good for the price, and the food is delicious. Someone complained about how loud the music is but I enjoy how much fun the servers have singing and dancing to the music. The guacamole is a must. Really light in flavor but so good. It's hard sharing with other people. They have lunch specials, mostly for $10 or less. My go to is the chicken chimichanga for $9.25. Comes with rice and beans and a little "salad" (lettuce tomato sour cream and guac). Super filling and so damn good (even as leftovers). The fish tacos are also good. They take a good bit to cook but worth the wait because they're crispy. These aren't deep fried but rather pan seared until they get a nice crust. The lunch special comes with three tacos and no rice and beans. I also tried the queso birria taco this most recent visit. It costs right under $5 which is average cost for those types of tacos. The beef was really tender and juicy. They don't completely load it down with cheese which i appreciate. It doesn't come with any of the sauce but there's plenty of flavor without it. When entrees come out, they'll bring two bottles of salsa, one salsa verde (kind of spicy) and a dark red salsa (maybe arbol chilis?). Both are great additions to your food but not necessary. Authentic Mexican in downtown East Point. Downside is only about 10 parking spaces so either pay to park (about $7) or find a space risking a tow in another parking plaza and walk a block. Only indoor seating. Good food and drinks. No frills, but good traditional Mexican with traditional drinks we all enjoy. read more

First lets talk about location. Right by the east point Marta station. I had previously read their menu before visiting. I was interested because they had tamales. So I opted for 3 tamales, rice and beans. I asked for a double order of rice,no beans. This meal ( 3 tamales meal) option isnt on their current menu,you have to ask for it. I saw this option available on a google review of the place. Your gonna be walking into the typical mexican resteraunt with mariachi music in the background. The service was fast. The food arrival did seem to take a bit longer that i found unusual. However i was in no rush ,so i didnt mind. The tamales were great. They came wrapped in corn husk. However i wouldn't have minded them out of the husk covered in chili. The rice that accompied them was quite tastee. Chips and salsa was good as well. Their prices seemed reasonable as well. This review is based off one item. My daughter was shopping at another store next door and stopped in here for some tacos. Some quick food. While she was there she noticed they had Pumpkin Bread. She knows I love anything Pumpkin. The lady working there said they made it fresh that day. She wasn't lying either. The bread was so moist and delicious. Perfect blend of spices and again it was super moist. I wish my daughter had purchased two but now we know where to go. Delicious authentic Mexican food! I was driving down Main Street and had to whip a u-turn when I saw this restaurant. Being from LA, you know how to spot a good Mexican restaurant when you see one! When you walk in you are greeted with music that you can't help but dance to. Once seated, a large basket of chips and house made salsa is placed on your table. So good! I ate so many I was almost too full for the main course. The waitress recommended their burritos and fajitas. I went with their chicken fajitas and it did not disappoint. If you are African American, please take your money elsewhere. The waitress ignored both myself and my 4yo daughter. I made eye contact with the waitress several times and was never greeted. Asked to speak with a manager and was told there wasn't one. All I was offered was a free meal, which is not what I came for. After a few misses with Authentic Mexican food my friend recommended this place in East Point. Upon driving up, it was small and just looked like it was going to be good. Nothing fancy and a very small parking lot with street parking. When you walk in it's a very old building and several booths, tables and chairs but not that comfortable to hang out with more than 30 people. I went for takeout so it didn't bother me. They have TVs to watch sports and were playing music. If you have been to Mexico and have eaten in a local spot, you would have the same familiar feeling. I ordered chicken fajita nachos and 3 tacos (beef and chicken) for the man. We were later told they were out of beef but could get steak. We didn't wait too long which is great and when we saw the food, it was just what we wanted. It smelled amazing! Once home, I couldn't wait. My first bite was heaven!! He loves me the steak taco the best but said chicken was great too. We will certainly be back and might stick around to eat to taste the margaritas. read more

I didn't get a chance to try the food because I walked in this restaurant and was not greeted so I left. It's not hard to welcome someone into your business especially after making eye contact with multiple employees. Not to mention I drove 45 mins just to try this place. I live in the neighborhood and decided to give this place a try. To start, the horchata is delicious. I ordered the chicken chimichanga off the lunch special and got rice instead of the beans. My meal cost a total of $8.01. The lunch specials typically end at 3pm. *The nice gentleman behind the corner allowed me to still order from the specials despite it being about 3:06 lol* It took about 20 minutes for my food to be done and it was great. I was not a huge fan of the rice. If I could give 4.5 stars ****Update! I returned to El Rocio today at 2:30 in hopes of ordering another lunch chimichanga. I was disappointed to learn that the lunch specials end at 2 now instead of 3. My regular menu chimi cost $9.08. I now wish I could give 3.5 stars but the burrito was still good. This is my fav place to go HANDS DOWN!! Service is always ON POINT and the food tops it off. Not only is the wait time not long at alll (literally a 7-10min wait on your food) but the prices is good. I went in on my lunch break. Walked in the same time as someone else. I was clearly in suit and tie work clothes. Sat at a booth next to the other party but facing both the other booth and the door. the server passed by me to give them menus and talked to them briefly. then the server left and came back to that other booth with a pen and pad, took their order and chatted some more (but this time more lengthy) before leaving to put in their order. I wonder if it was my race is the reason why at this point I still haven't been recognized or given a menu. totally unacceptable. I caution you. discrimination in a city this diverse is not okay. maybe I should've came with a plus one that doesn't look like me that would've given me more visibility. I was raised in the Bay Area, where we have great authentic Mexican food. Since moving to Atlanta, it has been hard for me to find good Carne Asada tacos because most restaurants sell Tex Mex. One day I stumbled across El Rocio, and I have been hooked ever since! It's a family-owned restaurant, and they're so lovely! Sometimes the chef will come out and speak to the customers, which I love! It gives it more of a personal interaction feel. Monday - Friday, they have happy hour between 5 pm-7 pm. I believe the margaritas are $2.99, and when I tell you that they are strong!
