Yesterday, though, they really impressed us! We were on day two without power at our house, along with many others in town, so Mr. Doug's was absolutely slammed. Sean got the chicken-fried steak and eggs, which was delicious, and Haley ordered the giant Doug's plate with ham, bacon, eggs, hash browns, sausage, and French toast. Everything on her plate was excellent, too! The service was just as impressive as the food. Our waitress was friendly, joked around with us, and took the time to make us feel welcome without making us feel rushed. The staff kept our drinks full the entire time. I'm extremely picky about my iced tea and need LOTS of ice, and they kept my glass full of both ice and tea the whole time! Sean had coffee, and they kept refilling it as much as he wanted until he switched to water. The entire staff deserves a shout-out. The host and bussers were working incredibly hard to keep things moving, and even our waitress was helping bus tables so they could get more people seated. You could tell everyone was pitching in and doing their best to take care of the customers. Even the bathrooms were clean and fully stocked despite how many people were coming through, especially with so many in town without power. All in all, we had a wonderful experience. Great food, generous portions, friendly service, and a hardworking staff that clearly cares about their customers. The very first time, the owner was our server and the service was actually pretty good. The food was mediocre, but we figured we'd come back and give it another shot. They were freezer burnt and they were the full wing the flat and the drum hooked together. We were not a fan of them. We've stopped in just for a couple of beers while waiting for our dog to get groomed next door, and even those visits have been uncomfortable. We've dealt with bartenders who were rude and completely unfriendly, and servers who seem to forget you're even there. We came here for Valentine's Day two years ago with a reservation, expecting a nice, romantic dinner. Instead, it was an absolute disaster. The staff looked completely overwhelmed, nobody seemed to know what was going on, our expense steaks were over cooked badly, we were ignored for long stretches, never offered refills, and the entire dinner was a huge disappointment. But we kept trying. Most recently, we brought two friends here because we really wanted to give it one more chance. We actually warned them not to have high expectations. Unfortunately, the service was just as bad. We were ignored, never got beer refills, and the food was terrible. Our friends left saying they never wanted to come back. Six or so potato wedges that were overcooked and just not very good, with mediocre barbecue sauce and ranch. And ironically, that same owner has completely ignored us every time we've been back and hasn't said a word to us since our first visit. At this point, we've tried enough times to know this isn't a one-off bad night. The service is consistently awful, the food is mediocre at best, and the prices don't match what you're getting. We genuinely try to support local businesses, which is why we kept coming back and giving this place another chance. But after six or so visits and multiple disappointing experiences, we're done. I absolutely cannot recommend this place. If you're looking for overpriced, mediocre food and consistently terrible service, this is your place!
