My wife and I came here for dinner on 7/26/25. When we first arrived at our table we was served chips with green and red salsa. The server came over and we both had the fajitas. My wife had the chicken and I had the steak. My wife also ordered a pina colada and I ordered an Ice tea. For being busy this place had our food out quick. When the food arrived the fajitas came out on a sizzling iron skillet with meat onion and green peppers. The dish was also served with a side of tortillas salsa with lettice guacamole on one side and Sour cream on the other with 2 olives on top. It also came with a side of rice and beans. When my wife recived her Pina colada and she said it was wonderful. The food tasted so great. The service was phenomenal I totally would recommend friends and family to visit this restaurant. Came in on the day before Christmas Eve and the place was pretty crowded. We got seated in the far back to the right in the booth against the back wall. It was busy like I said and we waited about 10 min before we had our order taken. I got the steak with green sauce with onion and mushrooms. It was pretty good. I was hoping to get more of the steak skirt but this was thin strips of steak with sauce on top. She got the pork carnitas plate with rice and beans. Mine also came with rice and beans too. The carnitas were plentiful and really good. She took some home and ate it for lunch. This is a great place to have chips and salsa too. They give you a red and green sauce with your chips. We absolutely LOVE this place. It's family owned and has been around for 20+ years. The food is well made and usually comes out quickly. They're always super friendly and super helpful. We've never waited more than 5 minutes to get a table even on their busiest nights. I usually order the carne asada fries - they end up being a ton of food for just being an appetizer. Their pollo mazatlan is also a fantastic choice that I think a lot of people don't try. Highly HIGHLY recommend!!! read more

Passing by looked to Yelp and found this restaurant... good stuff! No wait to be seated, water, chips and 2 salsas are served almost immediately as you browse their menu. We both got enchiladas / he got the cheese and onion and I got the shredded chicken one served with rice and beans. They were served suuuuper hot (caliente) which was almost annoying but better hot than cold... so we had to chill our hunger for a bit before being able to enjoy our dinners. Both were very flavorful. Due to the extreme heat, the rice was a bit overdone to my taste but mixed with the beans it worked. I stopped in for some Mexican food before I went up by the lake. It was very busy on a Sunday. Lots of families enjoying themselves I was greeted right away and my drink order was taken immediately. I got a Michelada, which was very good. I decided on huevos rancheros . I asked for my eggs to be over medium with the yolks still runny. When my dish came to the table, the eggs were very hard almost looked like they were scrambled. Upon cutting them open, I saw that they were very over cooked. When my server asked me if everything was OK I said actually know my eggs are way overcooked. She took them back and returned with a whole new plate of over easy eggs. Some parts of the white were still a little undercooked. I just avoided them. The flavor of the sauce was really good. I enjoyed the beans and rice as well. I do not think I would order this dish here again. I really like the salsa that came with the crispy chips. I ordered Osso Bucco! It was simply delicious! Our waiter promptly delivered chips and salsa to begin our meal. Drinks followed closely behind and then dinner. The restaurant was moderately energetic with attractive murals and traditional Mexican decorations. Their food is hit or miss. The wife had the chicken in cream sauce and loved it. I had the chicken mole enchiladas and tbh I was underwhelmed. Mole is like curry, you have some idea about what it will taste like but until it's on the table you never know. This mole was unfortunately very bland almost tasteless, not what you expect. Service was quick and our sadly undersized water glasses were refilled frequently. The bench I was sitting on was ripped all along the middle. Serving food on warmed dinner plates is a good idea, here they take the concept to far and the cheese and beans are burned on to the plate and the food is way too hot to eat. Portions are large and the interior decorations are fun. Definitely worth another visit to try something else. The menus that were on Yelp earlier are their lunch specials which look like pretty good values. So glad we stumbled onto this place!!! We get together once in awhile and usually go to Shari's just cuz we like to sit and talk and catch up, but it felt good to try something different. When we settled on Mexican food, we ended up here, and it was a pleasant surprise!! Made a reservation for a large group. They were very accommodating and were able to get us in quickly and room for our whole group. They had multiple servers help us as we had such a big group. They started with drink orders and had them filled quickly. Those that had water were brought a pitcher to refill their glasses more frequently. Then they came back for the orders. They were quick and efficient taking orders. The food came out quickly and very hot. We ordered a fajita for 2 to share. The flavor was good but different from others we have had at our local restaurant. The portions were very large much bigger than our local restaurant. The staff was all friendly and helpful. It is between ok and could have been better. The veggies in the burrito that I had seemed to be steamed or at best, cooked in a lower temperature pan. While full cooked they were missing the nice browning that comes from being cooked on a hot pan or grill top. Size was good and the rice inside was nice and moist. I like the whole beans too. I ordered a side of Guaco since they don't give you any be default and it was literally a 3 tablespoon scoop that was used....for $3.50....$3.50! That is Chipotle pricing when Chipotle drops about 3/4 of a cup of guac on your burrito for $2.65. Another review shows a picture of the guaco and that is the color and about the size of the $3.50 side order of guac that i got that came in a separate dish. If it was ice cream it would have been one large bite. Avocados are not expensive right now, $0.78 to $0.99 depending on the store, and that kind of mark-up on something that is a side that quite often is a free side at many other places is just stupid. Well that and it was a pretty dark green heading toward brown as it was obviously long into oxidizine. I won't be back but if I was with a group of people that were just dying to go there, fine I'll go but I won't make the mistake of ordering extra quaco. Chipotle isn't at the top of my list by a longshot and it is hard to beat a good full service mexican restaurant or taco truck. But in this case, Chipotle 1, El Rancho Viejo 0. With a few tweaks they could really up their game but either a consistent fan base eats there or there just isn't enough competition for them to know that they could easily step it up with a little change here and there that would not take more time or effort on their part. Just different techniques and ditching that 50mm kitchen scoop. read more

To play it safe for my first visit I ordered a taco/enchilada combo plate which came with beans and rice. Pro: The service was good. The place has an authentic Mexican restaurant vibe. Prices are very reasonable. Lunches run around $11.00. Con: The taco was SOGGY! The beef was bland. The enchilada was just OK. Beans were covered in cheese and were pretty good, as was the rice. Overall: It was OK but if you're looking for good southwestern style Mexican food this restaurant probably won't measure up. Then again for the PNW it's...well...OK. read more

Margarita, Margarita Margarita! I just came in to have a margarita that I had heard about! They don't have an actual bar to sit and enjoy but plenty of booths to sit and relax. When I arrived it was pretty quiet. So a nice guy sat me and tooK my drink order. He comes back pretty fast with my drink! Yeppie! The Margarita was good! It had liquor lol that you could taste but not too much and the Margarita mix paired well together! Okay they were right they do have great margaritas! As I sit and sip! I see it starting to get busy and just one guy working in the front. I simply sat back told him when he eventually walked By you can drop the check when you have time. I just came in for one Margarita. He smiled and said okay Meha! ( I'm sure that spelled wrong but sounds right haha) I paid and just told him to try and take it easy and don't work too hard. First impression not great. Parking is horrible. Once pulled in, there's no way of getting out if there are no spaces and they're very limited on their spaces now. And then we were seated back in the far corner next to a bunch of boxes in junk- The table was dirty and missing chairs. We were seated quickly though. Large parties are happening in here so it's extremely loud. The food was excellent and they did keep up on refilling our drinks. It was just an uncomfortable spot with the noise because we could not even hear each other talking. We're willing to go back and give it another try. I looked at the menu and found what sounded good but asked them if they could wrap it up like a street burrito that I could hold in my hands. Lived in the SW most of my life and have been trying to find a good Mexican place in the PNW. We have tried most in the surrounding area and had settled on the Fast Food places (Muchas Gracias) because they were the closest to what we liked. Nothing for a Sit-Down restaurant was very good. Passed this place on the way to a friend's house and have been in a couple of times now. Good, fast service and the food is good too. Friendly staff too. The only suggestion I would make is to make your own taco shells. the pre-made ones aren't that good and this would really take it up a notch. Just my opinion. read more

Ick, yuck- pass! We've lived in bg for almost a year and usually go to the margarita factory across the street when we want Mexican. We decided to give el Rancho Viejo a try as we'd been to the ridgefield location many (many) times when we lived there. Figured it couldn't be much different. Well that was apparently a bad assumption as this was hands down the worst experience of food in a very long time. The staff itself were friendly but- the "super nachos" looked like they had been sitting in a warmer for hours; the cheese was dried; the toppings were almost non existent and had a small amount of cheese, a small glop of literally brown guacamole and I'd say 70-% od the nachos had nothing on them.. also had a "super burrito" which at least was passable. The churros were awful, the person said they made them fresh but they were terrible. We each took a bite and threw the rest out. Sad to say this would be our first and last visit. read more
