I like that they give you small complimentary dishes - the tortilla chips at the beginning (hey, they didn't have to) and the sweet flour tortillas with chopped strawberries on top at the end. My dish was alright - not absurdly good, not horrendous. I do want to mention that the lettuce appeared to be this cheap, vaguely inedible coleslaw that I thought I could only find on Korean fast food side dishes, in Korea. And the avocados were..definitely not their specialty. I do not have complaints, though, about their shrimp or mushrooms, which is what I had. I give this a so-so. read more

We had lunch here today for the first time in years. We were very disappointed. Ordered a chimichanga, it was small and not crispy and no guacamole on it only sliced avocados. Had to ask for guacamole, not good, very salty. Beans and rice with no favor. We used to go all the time when they first opened years ago and they were so good. Now I can't recommend them any more. Whenever i come up to Lynden i always come here and eat the carne asada here is so good! The food comes out quick, amazing service.

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy. Fantastic Food, Great Service, Nice Atmosphere, Always Busy. The Chicken Fajitas are to die for ! They bring them table side on a steaming grill and put them over a candle. Sooo good, makes me want to go there for dinner now I'm talking about it ! The Chicken Mole and Margaritas are also a winner. The bring these cute little fried tortillas with cream and strawberry sauce to everyone for dessert. My daughter's favorite part. There's a McDonald's right out front, save your money and your time and hit McDonald's. And I HATE McDonald's. The staff at El Ranchito acts as though they could care less whether you are there are not. I've gotten the worst service here and a very rude female waitress. The food is okay, nothing to brag about and VERY overpriced. Mexican is usually cheap. Here for an enchilada plate you will pay $15. I will never go back to this restaurant and I am not one to give much negative feedback. read more

Very disappointing! This restaurant has been steadily going downhill. The food quality gets worse each time we go back. Even the pico de gallo was overly salty and wilted last time we were there. The wait staff do not even fake a smile. The place isn't as clean as it used to be either. If your looking for great Mexican food then you have to give El Ranchito in Lynden a try. My Hubby & I love the the Sizzling Beef Fajitas. We get the fajitas for 2 & always have plenty of food. Their Pico de Gallo & chips that they bring to your table is another favorite if ours. They will re-fill them as much as you wish. For the price this is a good option located in a strip mall right on Coast Meridian on the way to/from the Aldergrove border crossing. Since moving to Whatcom county and trying several Mexican restaurants this has become our favorite. The service is great, the food pretty good too. (Not spectacular but good, hearty with good portions.) I don't recommend the taco salad (just some meat, lettuce) but the carne asada is good and the camarones a la diabla excellent. read more

We love Ranchito's! We went there again last night for dinner with our Family which includes my Husband and I and 4 little kids under 8 years old. The service was outstanding, we got 2 baskets of their delicious hand made corn tortilla chips before the meal. Our waiter was great with the kids and got them coloring pages and some crayons. Food was fantastic we got a large platter for the kids to share and it was just the right amount for the little ones. We have been going here for years and I don't understand some of the negative reviews below? The Mexican food is the best I have had anywhere including while I was in Mexico! As per the comment below about the rude waiters/waitresses; they don't speak the best English but you just have to take it slow and you can get everything figured out with them. My sister and I decided to give El Ranchito a try, being fairly new to this area. What a huge disappointment. First, there was a baseball team having an awards meeting with a loud mouth coach talking non stop the entire time we were there. The restaurant was filthy, most of the overhead lights were either missing bulbs or were burnt out, and the old glass lamp shades looked like they had never been cleaned. The salt and pepper shakers were grimy. The carpet was disgusting. The tables had advertising on them so my sister sat and stared at some Septic service ad while having her meal. The service was extremely slow, the salsa was thin, watery tomato sauce. When we finally received our food after a very long wait, it was absolutely disgusting. We both ordered the fish/shrimp tacos combo. The shrimp taco was completely flavourless, the shrimp tasted old. The fish taco, if you could call it that, was some completely unrecognizable, chopped up mess. I dared to take one bite and spit it out. Horrible! This place needs to close down. I will NEVER go back. My sister calls this place El Raunchito. I couldn't agree more. read more

The carne asada was dehydrated beef jerky..very dry and inedible. The beans and rice were extremely salty and otherwise flavorless. The chili relleno was covered in fake cheddar cheese and a slimy canned chili. The margaritas were left on the table, we wére unable to stomach the harsh acid drink. Three of us went there for lunch. Based on the prices we figured we'd have enough to eat without gorging ourselves. When the plates came the servings were huge. The Pico de Gallo was so good we took a quart home. The place was clean and service was prompt and courteous. We live over 250 miles away but will likely return when we are in the area. Since we are vegetarians we appreciated the fact that vegetable oil is used in the refried beans, and one of our party is Celiac and one highly gluten intolerant - first time my wife has had a Relleno in years! read more

Called for take out. Ordered two burrito meals, and then I told the guy on the phone that was all we needed. He mumbled something, and I said "Excuse me, what was that?" because I didn't hear him, at which point he quite clearly hung up on me (audible click). My husband, who was going to pick up the order, called back because they didn't tell me when the food would be ready, didn't give me a total, and didn't tell me if payment was needed prior to pick-up. The first time he called they hung up on him as soon as he said hello. The second time he called, the person who answered the phone too busy talking to someone else there, and was unable to confirm that our order had even been placed, let alone what time we should pick it up or what the total was. He told them to cancel the order if they ever manage to find it. We'll never be ordering from this restaurant again! There's another place on the other side of town that will get our business from now on. I've had dinner here before, and it was okay at best, so it isn't worth dealing with the rude service to eat there again. read more

I never write reviews but I felt that this place deserves an amazing review! We stopped here as my daughter had an equine event at the local fair. The server gave my two kids free special drinks when he found out my daughter won a first place ribbon! The service is 6 stars in my eyes. My only complain is I don't live close enough. Luckily we have to return tomorrow to the fairgrounds and I will come here again for lunch and again for any future events that bring me to Lynden. Worst Mexican food. EVER. The chicken tasted like undermicrowaved turkey. No flavor, no service, no personality.

I would not even give it a 1. First off we have given it more then one try and the staff is very rude, it's almost like they don't care if you like it or not they barley acknowledge you and speak Spanish to other staff and just laugh, Even watching them interact with other customers they walk away rolling there eyes and then going to other staff and talking in Spanish. I think it's very rude! I ordered a prawn dish and the prawns were old I could taste the mold musty rot it was awful! The pico is made with 90% shredded cabbage and black pepper which isn't traditional pico recipe at all and tortillas are not fresh but store bought which I don't ever understand in Mexican restaurants when it is so easy and low cost to make your own tortillas and chips and taste way better compared to store bought. There chef mike (microwave) is working hard in the kitchen reheating and opening cans which makes for quick service but not good food. I would not go back or suggest to anyone. read more
