I went to the Tia Julia restaurant after having a few fantastic lunches at their truck, and it was…read moreexcellent! The staff who helped us were very friendly, and the food came out quickly. My huevos rancheros was the perfect amount of food. Just enough to feel pleasantly full, without needing to take leftovers/creating a situation with a soggy tostada or cold over easy fried egg. I love that the fried egg on top of the tostada was just the right size that I could scoop the beans, salsa and avocado onto it and then eat it with my hand without creating a mess (I'm a very messy eater). Beans were salty, creamy and savory, and the pico de gallo tasted tangy and fresh. I don't know where they get their sour cream but I was surprised to notice that such a basic ingredient that's not usually the star of the show tasted so good? Who knows, but that sour cream went perfectly with the rest of the dish. Also when I finished my first egg I was pleasantly surprised to move the wrapper and find that there was a second egg underneath! Truly the bonus Jonas of breakfasts. I will also definitely be coming back here for coffee, it was delicious. I ordered with cream and sugar and it was the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess, without being sweet to the point that you get that gross sugary coffee aftertaste in your mouth. It may also have had cinnamon or another ingredient, but whatever it was just really hit the spot. The coffee was very hot, but not scalding to the point that I had to wait for it to cool down before drinking. I could sip it right away, having a warm and enjoyable start to my morning. Also there was a very comfortable soft/leather type bench that you can sit and wait at if you're ordering food to go (although I need to come back for a sit down meal because inside was very clean, spacious and cozy). I'm always on the lookout for accessible takeout options! Overall, a delicious option for breakfast and I have no doubts that the rest of their menu is also wonderful. Give this place a try!

Have been looking for a good Ajiaco Soup (garlic potato with the herb Guascas (galinsoga…read moreparviflora) for a while (restaurant near me closed & the semi-chain P-llos M-rio availability is limited & quality changed). I was feeling confident, having found this restaurant through Yelp & passed by seeing that they have it as their Thursday soup special. The café/restaurant is itself is actually a lot bigger and deeper than how it looks on the outside. There's a few booths up front and small tables in the back, high tin ceilings, welcoming lightly cheerful decor. You can tell that the owner is put a lot of work into making their space casual-cool and welcoming. Their menu is extensive! With a lot of traditional platters, a case of pastries and Empanadas up front, smoothies, and some typical café/diner options. BUT I was here for the Ajiaco! And so was the other lunchtime worker, and 1 order of 3 soups going out. A bowl is $9, and it's a decent size for lunch (a pint sizd for takeout). The $16 combo comes with rice, meat, & plantain. I only asked for a small bowl of rice (a bit dry). The soup was pretty good. It had small round yellow potatoes, regular potato, a few chunks of chicken, & of course the herb blended into the soup. I'm surprised that there wasn't a side of capers or crema to add as you like. I think it was mixed in. The waiter does give you a pot of red hot sauce. I need to find the recipe for this type of Colombian red salsa - spicy, very cilantro forward and something else. It definitely makes the dish or empanada. Overall, the soup is probably like a A- i'm used to larger portions (quart container). I also got an empanada to go, which was stuffy made with leftover from stews (found a thin bone in it) but super tasty (didn't need hot sauce at all). And got a Pan de Bono pastry which was ok but weirdly tasted like it had traces of Windex or an oil aftertaste. Wouldn't mind going back to try Colombian breakfast plate or smoothie next time.
